"Welcome to class!" Izuku said, waving to his students. "I'm glad I was able to start this class, and I'm sure you guys will enjoy it." He waited for them all to sit down. "Now, since this is a new class, and it's optional, why don't we take some time to fill out these 'get to know you' sheets? I can assure you, there is a perfectly good reason I'm doing this."
He walked through the classroom, handing the students blank papers. He went back to his desk and sat down.
"Now, some important things I want on this page are your name, hero name, Quirk, and limitations for them. After everyone's finished filling out your sheets, we'll take some time to introduce ourselves. Of course, I'll be going first so don't feel pressured to do it! And if you are shy or something, I'll check your papers after class. So you don't need to come to the front if you don't want to!"
"How long do we have for this?" Asked a student.
"Well, the class is about an hour, so you have 25 minutes. The rest of it will be the 'get to introduce yourself to the class bit,' and my little lesson with this exercise."
He started a timer on his phone, and listened to the students scribbling down on their papers. Twenty-five minutes was plenty of time, right?
The timer went off. "Alright, pencils down! If you didn't finish, let me know and I can let you take it home."
The class dropped their pencils onto their desks.
"Alright, now for my introduction. You probably already know me from being the number one Pro Hero as of currently, but I'll introduce myself for who I actually am, besides a hero." He scribbled 'Mr. Izuku Midoriya' on the chalkboard. "My name's Izuku Midoriya, and my Quirk is called One for All. It gives me enhanced strength and skill, and it was the reason I was able to stop so many villains at a young age. Of course, with great strength comes great downsides. I've broken my bones more times than I can count." He looked at the seating chart. "Alright, seat one? Come to the front please."
She rose from her seat and went to the front with a wave. Her dark brown hair fell to her middle back, and a pair of cat ears poked through the fluff of her hair.
"Hello. My name is Kana Aoki. I'm new to UA as of this year. Uh, anyway. My hero name is CopyCat, and I can turn into people! I can copy their Quirks too, if I know how they work." She smiled.
"That's an interesting one," Izuku said. "But a good hero would always know the limits to their powers, along with knowing how to avoid any trade-offs their Quirk might have."
"Is that why you're doing this? To make sure we know all of that?"
"Yep. The first step to being a good hero is knowing about you. That way, you can better utilize your abilities to help in any way you can. You can go sit down now. Alright, seat two? You're next."
"My name is Yoshiro Ashinori. My hero name is...still a work in progress. My Quirk is called Proliferation. And I can do this."
He grabbed his chin and pushed his hands upwards, causing his neck to stretch outwards. He glanced at Izuku, looking slightly embarrassed.
"But I haven't found out how to 'unstretch' yet..."
"That's okay!" Izuku said. "Like I said, I broke plenty of bones before I figured out how to control my Quirk. Once you figure that out, you'll be a pretty helpful asset to your team. You can sit back down."
The class had an interesting bunch of Quirks. One could breathe fire, but only when she was cold. Another, who could turn into any animal, but had to know the internal structure of the animal first, and he claimed it hurt to change his bone structure to and from himself; which made complete sense. Another girl could turn invisible on will, but only half of her body at a time. But the last one...he refused to say. He just handed Izuku the paper and sat back down.
"Okay, so now that we got introductions out of the way, let's take some time to think about why we want to be a hero. Do you want to help people? Do it for the fame? Family legacy, maybe? If you have the right mindset, you can be an even better hero. I'll use myself as an example. My Quirk took...a while to develop. It didn't appear until I was about to enter UA. I wanted to be a Quirkless hero, that was my goal. Now, I know I have a Quirk, so my goal has changed, but the fact I wanted to prove myself despite that drawback was what drove me into being a hero in the first place. Your goals will be your guide through life. All heroes have them. All Might wanted to save people, and that's what he did! A friend of mine, Bakugo, his drive was to be the best. Wasn't exactly the purest way to get where he did, but it still drove him to become a Pro Hero."
The quite student, who refused to introduce himself, started writing something down.
"Now, your homework for today is to think about your goal. You can't be a hero without a goal. It needs to be the reason you wanted to come to UA, why you want to be a hero. We'll be discussing goals in class tomorrow. I'll see you then, and have a good day!"
As the students talked as they packed up their books to leave, Izuku looked over the student's paper.
"Name: Olive Oni-Kami. Age: Unknown. Hobbies: Unknown. Quirk/powers: Unknown. Hero name: Unknown. Goals: ?"
"Uh, hey! Olive?"
He came to the desk. He looked emotionless and stiff. Blond hair blocked his right eye, and he wore a blue suit with a mauve tie instead of the school uniform.
"You okay?" Izuku asked. "Your paper was kind of...vague. Do you not know your Quirk?"
"No..." He tapped a hand to the side of his head. "It...feels like I have a giant hole in my memory. Like I have no idea who I am."
"Do you want to talk?"
He nodded.
"I'm free during lunch. We can talk then, if that's okay."
"Yeah, that's fine."
"I'll see you then!"
"Okay."
Kana sat next to Yoshiro during lunch, and they both watched the quiet kid leave the lunchroom without any food in hand.
"Is he okay?" Kana asked. "He's really quiet, and now he's not even eating lunch."
"His name's Olive," Kieru said. "The teacher wanted to talk to him during lunch."
"How'd you know that?" Yoshiro asked.
"I was curious about him, so I kind of invisibly spied on them talking after class. He seems to have amnesia or something."
"Huh. Poor guy," Kana said. "Is there any way we can help?"
"I don't think so. I think we should just let Mister Midoriya handle it."
Netsu sighed. "He's cold as ice. Almost like he's not real."
"He have the hero training class next, right?" Yoshiro asked.
Kana nodded. "Yep! And maybe we can see Olive's Quirk then. I mean, he obviously has one if he got into UA. So maybe he just needs some training to job his memory?"
"I hope that's the case," Netsu said. "Because if not, he's going to get eaten alive out in the real world."
"Hey...since we all share a class together," Kieru started, "maybe we can hang out after school? I need a team for the Splatoon 3 tournament coming up anyways..."
"Can't hang today," Kana said sadly, "sorry. I have to go with my mom to pick up my brother from collage. He could get home on his own, but his car broke down, so now he can't really leave the airport. His plane's gonna get to the Japan Airport by the time school's done, so I just decided to go with mom. We're going to get his car to a repair shop while we're at it."
"An interesting day for you," Yoshiro said. "I just want to get my homework done today."
"I could hang out today," Netsu started, "but I did promise my younger sister that I would watch some TV with her today. She said she missed hanging out with me, and I feel bad I haven't lately."
"I get it," Kieru said. "You all have stuff to do, and I do too. M-maybe another time then..."
"Is this seat taken?" Asked a new voice.
They all looked up to see a kid who looked like a deer. He looked like a friendly face.
"Can I sit here?"
They all nodded, and he sat down. "My name's Ashi. Nice to meet all of you! So...are you the group that goes to Deku's class? I was a bit interested in it, but I'm not sure how the scheduling would work for me. I was wondering if I could drop by the next class and see it for myself. Can I do that, since I never officially signed up for the class?"
"You should talk to Mister Midoriya about that," Kieru said softly.
"Oh. Okay."
