35- New Beginnings… chapter thirty-five

Lynn awoke from her morning Walter induced brain frazzle in mid-afternoon. She smiled, stretched to look over at Walter who was, to be honest, dead to the world. "For an old man, whee-ohhh, you be a gold medal winner in the brain frazzle Olympics," Lynn mumbled to herself then chuckled hearing both their stomachs growl. Without disturbing Walter she got up, stretched again and went to the bathroom to shower and slip into a strapless sundress and panties to see about rustling up something for them to eat whenever Walter awoke. She stood at the bedroom door watching Walter sleep, he does look young when asleep she thought, and those eyelashes- gods she thought, women would kill for lashes so long and dark as his, not to mention those lovely curls. She smiled and went to the kitchen to find a couple big chunks of sea bass in the fridge, some lemons in a bowl on the counter. Deciding to cook at the downstairs kitchen so her noise doesn't wake Walter she took everything down stairs. She started coffee and got out the broccoli and carrots, no cauliflower this time and got the fish wrapped up in foil with butter and sliced lemon to put in the oven, grated some cheese to put on the veggies after steaming. While things simmered, she went to Walter's desk. The desktop was powered down as usual when he was away from it, the laptop at the corner of the desk closed when he did not want to be disturbed. She looked at the few papers on the 'science' pile.

"You are reading all this, claptrap and all," Lynn mumbled to the air. "Wonder how long it will be before an actual design is considered…. he has all this, nonsense and science in his head. Amazing man." She got up to get a cup of coffee then went back up to the loft to check on Walter to see if he was waking up. Standing at the bedroom door she saw he had not moved a muscle since she looked in on him before going downstairs. "Wow," she mumbled, "he doesn't look close to waking up….. wore himself out." She sipped her coffee and just looked at him and smiled when she heard his stomach noise. "Have to wake up sooner or later," she said and returned downstairs.

The fish was done as were the veggies so she shut the oven and range top off, refilled her coffee and shut the brewer off and reset it for when Walter awakes. She prepared herself a plate and sat at Walter's desk to eat. "This really is like the command center… just the captain being absent- even an alien from Arcturus has to sleep sometimes." She finished eating while looking through the smallest pile of 'science' papers so got up to take her plate into the kitchen….

"LYNN! GODS- LYNN!"

Hearing Walter's yell she dropped her plate in the sink to race up the stairs to the loft bedroom. "Walter, WALTER!" She called running to the bed to see Walter struggling to get up. "Walter what's wrong? WALTER, I'm here." She sat to grasp his shoulders as he struggled, wild eyed.

"Oh gods, oh gods, you were gone," Walter, still not fully awake and aware mumbled into her shoulder as she wrapped her arms around him to lay back on the bed again. "Don't leave, Lynn….. don't….…don't… " he mumbled to drift off. She gently brushed his long, dark curls back from his face as he relaxed back into sleep.

She sat there looking at Walter as he slept. She recalled he said once he does not sleep much- dozes mostly- wonder if his mind does strange things while sleeping so sleeping deeply is a problem- he also said his mind works in strange ways but is used to it having lived with it for thirty-four years. Worried about me leaving- maybe when deep asleep his emotional issues come to the fore- may be why his brain keeps him to just dozing until the need for deep sleep can't be put off anymore. Dare say the exceptionally long energy expending physical activity from last evening to this morning probably contributed to the need for the deep sleep. Wonder what prompted the extended sexual escapades…. must be some reason why all of a sudden food, rest, everything was set aside for the repeated brain frazzle. Sounds like one of his explanations of going down a 'rabbit hole', but he said that was always geared to a problem, some issue needing resolution, or a jaunt into pure scientific or mathematical concepts. She stretched out on her side next to him to get more comfortable and pulling a blanket up, put an arm across his chest. His stomach made noise again and she chuckled- wonder if a growling stomach is proof he really isn't a visitor from Arcturus but fully human after all.

Lynn raised onto an elbow watching Walter's slow deep breathing, moved her hand from his chest to run fingers gently through his tangled black curls to splay across the blue pillowcase. Walter sighed, made a slight smile and opened his eyes.

"That is always so relaxing- practically lose molecular cohesion and turn into a puddle." He looked at Lynn, "you are dressed? How long have I been asleep…. you seem to have me at a disadvantage."

Lynn chuckled, "I have YOU at a disadvantage? How you figure that?"

"Here I am, an old man naked in bed, you, a young lady leaning over me making me feel so relaxed but now getting tense… well, quite tense. I am in a very vulnerable state…"

Lynn cocked her head, "getting tense, you say? Vulnerable, you say?"

"Yes, getting very tense, as a matter of fact- looking at you, thinking how easily that dress could fall not having any straps keeping it up over your so very enticing, lovely curves. Thinking of you being in a dress how easily you could take advantage of me in my aged and defenseless state."

"Old man," Lynn said feigning an innocent look. "Do I look like the kind of young lady that would take advantage of an old man…. in a defenseless state?"

Walter, with a smile looked up at Lynn, "if I asked nicely…. would you? I am getting extremely tense, so please do…. take advantage of me for a long, long time."

Lynn got up from the bed to stand next to it with Walter looking at her- she reached under her dress skirt to remove panties… went to the bed to pull back the covers from Walter. "Ahhh, old man, you certainly were not joking about being tense, can I relieve you of that?" She swung her leg over his hips and took him in. "Hmmmmm, damn you feel so good…I know, slow, right, slow and easy?"

Walter reached up to slide her dress over her head, "Yes, slow…. slow and easy, don't want to overwhelm this old man… but gods, you do overwhelm my senses." Hands on Lynn's hips he kept the pace slow, she straightened her back and deepened the penetration and Walter raised his hips even more as she quickened the pace. "Oh gods, Walter… gods…. ahhh…. ahhh…. AHHhhh."

Walter felt her clenching him and raised his hips even more and both were sated at the same time, she falling onto his chest and he kissed her deeply to wrap her in his arms to remain in her as long as possible.

Walter had dozed off again with Lynn comfortingly wrapped in his arms across his chest. When he woke again, he never thought he had such a case of the munchies, his stomach making a racket. Lynn was awake and chuckled hearing his stomach complaining about being so empty.

"Seems you need a bit of sustenance, Walter," Lynn said.

"Yes, I now understand the comment people make about eating a horse," he said smiling. "We have anything to eat around here or is a run to a restaurant necessary? A close restaurant or I will faint from hunger before getting to the door."

"I HAD fixed us something to eat but you were sleeping so deeply then when you awoke, food did not seem to be high on your list of what you wanted. Probably the fish is a science experiment now, the veggies beyond salvaging….. have some eggs, sausages, toast and Skippy peanut butter if you think a breakfast is good enough to stave off your hunger. I should have it ready by the time you shower and get dressed….. if getting dressed at this late hour is worth it…. why not take a shower and get back into bed and I will bring you breakfast in bed and we can relax comfortably and start a new day in the morning. How does that sound?"

"Sounds like a plan," Walter said stretching then got up, got clean boxers from a drawer and headed to the bathroom. "Best start cooking, young lady, this old man in HUNGRY."

Lynn got up and slipped her sundress on again, clean underwear and went into the kitchen. By the time Walter got out of the shower she had scrambled some eggs, browned sausages, had a cup of coffee and Skippy on the table and waiting for the toast to pop. "I figure better to eat at the table- toast crumbs in bed are no fun."

Walter entered the kitchen in boxers with towel around his neck to sit and sip some coffee, "Think you may have saved my life." He took the spoon and opened the Skippy jar to dip the spoon in and lick the peanut butter like a lollypop.

Lynn laughed seeing that, "I knew you liked peanut butter, but wow I never would have thought you would eat it by the spoonsful like that." She put his plate of breakfast on the table, and grabbed the toast when it popped up. "Here you are, a better platform for peanut butter."

"You're not eating?" Walter asked between bites.

"No, I had the fish and veggies for dinner. Little soon for breakfast for me. I still have to clean up the downstairs kitchen, matter of fact. You got me a bit side-tracked." She got the coffee pot and refilled their cups as Walter shoveled in the last of his breakfast.

He sat back, "That hit the spot, thanks." He said putting the lid back on the Skippy jar to pick up his coffee cup. "Have an interesting movie for this evening?"

"I was thinking about that." Lynn said going into the bathroom to grab a comb then returned to comb Walter's damp hair. "In the mood for another old Gary Cooper Western?"

"Whatever you choose, though to be honest, I may doze off before it is done. I am very relaxed, have a full stomach, and you warm beside me- a prefect evening. We can clean up the downstairs kitchen in the morning,"

Everything was put in the dishwasher and it started. They went into the bedroom and straightened up the wadded up sheet and blankets to get in and kick back. Lynn had the remote to start the movie, Walter put his arm out and Lynn laid her head on his shoulder, cuddled up against him, putting arm across his chest. "You should like this one, shows early America with the cattle ranchers settled in and the farming people moving in and fencing the fields. This is a Gary Cooper movie called 'The Westerner'. His attraction to the farmer's daughter and the taming of the old west to make it civilized is what to watch for. The Cooper character is a classic hero, quiet, good, stands up for what is right, a pillar of the community helping it become a real community….. and some of the stunts he pulls on Judge Roy Bean and his love interest are pretty funny."

Walter smiled, she was back to cuddling and telling him of what to watch. Maybe all his research, minute data acquisition, and cycle calculating will make everything good again. He squeezed her shoulder, kissed the top of her head on his shoulder and dozed off before the beginning credits were run.

The end of the month as per usual, Walter got the 'Thank you, LA goofball.' message from gene. Dave continued to pick up Walter at ten each Wednesday to go to a data center to upgrade the security programming. Evenings he was not working the code for the data center, he and Lynn went through the mound of claptrap, possibility, and science she had collected for an orbiter. Two of Richard's engineers requested Walter look over a water and air purification system for the personnel capsule of Richard's first launch into space going to the moon.

The end of the second month, the expected message from Gene in Arizona had a bit of a change:

Walter- Thank you, thank you, LA goofball. Gene

So Walter replied:

Gene- TWO thank you's? The doctor appointment went well? Walter

A patent was being drawn up by Richard's legal department on Walter's water purification system design.

Only a couple boxes of Lynn's collection of claptrap, possible, science were left to go through, some of the papers were already hung on the wall of the open bay, five file cabinets along the back wall were filled.

The second week of the third month, Lynn came home from her monthly doctor appointment. Pulling the convertible into the bay, when she entered the garage, Walter at his desk looked up and smiled. She came to lean against his desk by his chair, leaned over to give him a kiss with rings swinging from her neck.

"You know, don't you?" She asked.

"As you are aware, I know a lot of things," Walter said smiling. "What exactly are you referring to? I have to have some basis of subject matter at least a direction to go on."

"Ten Weeks ago? That ring a bell?"

"I well remember ten weeks ago- we had nine hours of lovemaking between dozes of which I was incredibly satisfied and often recall enjoyably."

"I am pregnant, Walter. That nine hours of lovemaking just happened to be the most optimal time of my cycle it seems." Lynn said. "That really was a rabbit hole, only physical concentration rather than mental computations, wasn't it?"

Walter sat back and looked at Lynn with a slight frown, "are you angry?"

"How can I possibly be angry? You, the most remarkable of men, have given me what I love most, yourself and OUR baby. How did you know?"

"Lynn, you know me very well by now. I Love you and want nothing more than for you to be happy…. especially with me and our life together."

"So you analyzed the problem, collected data, contemplated the issue, calculated a few natural cycles and =poof= knew exactly when would be the most optimal window of opportunity to allow you and me to merge and make a new person?"

Walter pushed his chair back so she could sit on his lap, "you make it sound so clinical and robotic, but in my extensive reading, a fair percentage of the emotional drive for a woman to reproduce with the man of her choice is the emotions involved."

"That is why you kept asking me if I loved you, told me you loved me, if I wanted only you…. you have to be the most romantic of men and yes, I do love you and I most certainly do want you." Lynn rose from Walter's lap to saunter to the steps to the loft unbuttoning her shirt as she went. "You can close up, set security…. I will wait for you." She pulled her shirt off as she went up the stairs, Walter watching her. At the top of the stairs she turned and removed her bra so he could see her rings hanging against her chest, turned and entered the loft.

With a smile, Walter rose to shut the bay door and front door, set security and turned out the lights leaving the Scorpion Explosives sign lit as a night light. Explosives, indeed, he thought as he climbed the stairs two at a time to join his wife whom he loves- more than life itself.
