Chapter 1
Theresa was raised on a small farm in the country of Norrisville. Her favorite pastimes were riding her horse and teasing the family farmhand. His name was Randy, but Theresa never called him that.
The horse came to a halt. Theresa dismounted, content after her evening ride, and made her way to the stables. Randy, the hired farmhand, was tending to the animals. Upon returning her horse to its place, Theresa spoke to the boy.
"Farm Boy," She said, "Polish my saddle. I'd like to see my face shining in it by morning."
Randy, who was about her age, simply looked at her before calmly responding the way he always did.
"As you wish"
"As you wish" Was all he ever said to her. But then the day came where Theresa realized that when Randy said, "As you wish." He was actually saying, "I love you." And soon after, the day came where Theresa realized that she loved him as well.
Randy had no money for marriage, so he decided to leave the farm and sail out into the world to seek his fortune. Theresa rose early on the day he left and the two met at the gate, embracing each other for a farewell. They were silent for some time before Theresa spoke.
"I fear I will never see you again"
"You will" Randy promised. But Theresa was not reassured.
"But what if something happens to you?" At this questioned, Randy pulled back slightly, close enough to still hold her, but enough distance to look into her dark blue eyes.
"Listen to me." He responded, "I will always come for you."
"But how can you be sure?"
"Because this is true love. You think this happens every day?" Was Randy's answer. At that, the two shared a final kiss before Randy departed. Sadly, his ship never reached its destination. It was attacked by the dreaded Sorcerer, who never took hostages.
Upon receiving the news, Theresa locked herself in her room, and for days, she neither slept nor ate. She simply gazed sadly out her window, with only one thought running through her head.
"I'll never love again."
