Robert and Ethan were left in his office after lunch, Jayne wanted to get back to work and Holly was going to meet Celia.
"Dad, I wanted to have a quick minute just the two of us." Ethan told Robert.
Robert smiled at his son, he had been his son for years but knowing he was in every way was nice. "What is it?"
"I just wanted to thank you for always being there for me, no matter what. I know I'm a pain in the ass sometimes and I get myself in situations but you've never been hateful about it, even when it seemed like it was going to keep you and mum apart." Ethan told Robert.
"I wanted to keep you safe as much as Holly did, I wanted to go with her, but she wanted to protect me. We do a lot of that in this family." Robert smiled, he may have not been uuuuuu about it had things not been working out so well. "You don't ever have to thank me for being a father to you. That's a privilege and an honor."
Ethan knew that Robert meant every word of that. He always had. "You know I hope I'm the same kind of father to Seana that you are. I hope she gets in a lot less trouble though." He laughed.
Robert couldn't help but laugh either, especially knowing the genes in that kid. "We can only hope that. She'll be okay though. You and Annie are doing a great job with her."
"I'm trying. You, mum, and Tiff really have been the best help with her too." Ethan told Robert, he knew how much Seana's grandparents meant to her.
"It's a privilege, we missed out on Jayne and you, and I missed out on this age with Robin too. I love getting to watch her learn and grow. Also getting to be her favorite person." Robert grinned.
Ethan let out a laugh. "You really are. I'm hoping all of this works out."
"What do you mean?" Robert asked Ethan.
"I mean with Annie. Sometimes I think we are doing great and then she seems to be pulling away." Ethan was giving her time but he at the same time wondered if she just wasn't sure about them.
"Have you talked to her about it?" Robert asked him.
"No, I will. We've just been busy getting the move in order. I made sure we had separate rooms, I don't want to push her." Ethan told his father.
"You're a good man, just give her time and if it doesn't work out then you two at least tried. Sometimes parents are better apart." Robert advised Ethan. He wanted the two of them to work out but more than anything wanted them to be happy.
