Chapter 1

Daniel Shaw had always believed that redemption was a myth, a fairy tale for the naive, a hollow concept for men like him. Once, he had been a loyal CIA agent, a patriot who had served his country with pride. But that was before Sarah Walker killed his wife. That was before he allowed grief, rage, and vengeance to define him, before he betrayed every principle he had ever held dear.

Shaw had lost himself in the process, descending into a spiral of betrayal, manipulation, and violence. His thirst for revenge consumed him, and ultimately, it led him to prison. The intersect he downloaded ate away at his brain. It caused him to become cold and psychotic. The things he did, his younger self probably wouldn't believe. Revenge consumed him and he became what he feared, a monster. After it was gone, he came to terms with the consequences of his actions. He never would have done half of the stuff if there wasn't an intersect. The moment he changed was when he was in the black, screened room and saw his wife, Eve wishing him a happy birthday, and the next video was Eve getting shot down by Sarah. It was almost like that video was intentionally planted into his head like an intersect. Everytime he thought he might be going too far, there was a flash of Eve being killed.

He was locked away in a cold, grey cell in the middle of nowhere, Shaw spent years reflecting on the path that had brought him to ruin. He could still see Sarah's cold eyes, hear her voice as she justified his wife's death, the final straw that had driven him to turn against everything he once believed in.

But in the long silence of incarceration, Shaw began to confront the person he had become. He wasn't sure how or why it started, but over time, he began to feel something, something other than rage, take root in his heart. A desire for atonement? Perhaps. A hunger for peace? Possibly. But more than anything, he yearned for a second chance. So, one night, he did what only a desperate man would: he escaped.
