Gilligan set the crate down on the sand and took out a lantern and after a few clumsy attempts, he lit it, then he wandered into the jungle to picks up fallen sticks, after gathering a large amount to get him through the night, he returned to the beach and made his way back to where he set the crate, placed the sticks down and put the lantern aside, he arranged some sticks and lit them on fire(although it took a while), once the fire was lit Gilligan blew out the lantern and placed it back in the crate.
He sat down but the fire and reaching over he took out the coffee pot and carefully poured himself a cup of coffee into his coconut cup.
He gently blew on the steaming drink and waited a few minutes and he took a sip. Gilligan didn't honestly care for black coffee, but he would drink it, especially if it helped keep him awake. Gilligan carefully put the cup aside and looked out at the horizon. It really was a beautiful night, and the weather was just right, not too hot, not too cold. It was the perfect temperature. Gilligan smiled to himself, he hoped a ship would pass by.
But as the night wore on, there was no ship to be seen passing by, yet not once did Gilligan give up, he was determined to be vigilant, even if it took him all night long. Every few minutes he would take a sip of coffee. The black coffee did help, but all too soon the first rays of sunlight began to shine.
Gilligan felt disappointed that no ship had been seen, oh well, he thought. I really did try my best. Perhaps there were no ships out tonight. As Gilligan gathered the coffee cup and coffee pot back into the crate Gilligan couldn't help but wonder what if there had been a ship and Gilligan wised that it had happened. Suddenly Gilligan had a thought, what if he tried again tomorrow? yes he could try again as many nights as it took? yes he could do that. He smiled closing his eyes imagining the looks of happiness on the castaways faces as they saw they were being rescued and Gilligan was determined to make that a reality.
Filled with purpose, Gilligan ran back to the area the huts were and quickly put the supplies away and washed the cup and coffee pot then carefully, he returned to his hut and carefully climbed into his hammock, he closed his eyes and drifted off for at least a few hours of sleep dreaming of their rescue
