Chapter 4: A new Threat
The next afternoon, the Incredibles got a call from Rick Dicker. He asked them over to the warehouse which puzzled them. As they got there, they realized many officers standing around it, securing the area. Something was wrong here. Helen asked Violet and Dash to stay back and watch Jack-Jack, as she and Bob went over to Dicker.
"Please excuse the secrecy of this operation. We received a phone call last night, telling us there were loud screams coming out of this warehouse. As we got here, nobody was found, but we have reason to believe this is where Bomb Voyage hid himself after his escape." Dicker explained.
Bob's face lit up.
"That's great news then. Where is he?"
Dicker sighed thoughtfully.
"That's the problem we're facing here. He's gone. But… I fear that someone or… something else is holding the reins here." He said.
This puzzled the two heroes even more.
"What do you mean?" Helen asked.
"Come with me. I'll show you." Dicker answered, leading the two heroes inside.
As they went into the warehouse, even more police officers worked on searching the building. Dicker led the heroes to the place Bomb Voyage vanished before pointing to the wall next to him.
"You see those things? Those are Bomb Voyage's bombs and plans for robberies. He wouldn't leave them here. Next, the woman who called us said something about weird fog and a guy shouting questions in French at someone else who never seemed to answer before screaming in fear. But as far as we know, this isn't the strangest clue. Look at this." He pointed to the blue glowing word on the ground. "This seems to be burned into the stone floor. And it's glowing. Whoever did this is not a normal human being."
Bob read the word on the ground thoughtfully.
"Uriel? What does that mean?" He wanted to know.
Dicker just shook his head
"That seems to be the big question everyone's asking. I wanted to inform you that maybe we will have a big fight coming at us in the near future. Whatever this is… everyone is alarmed. I'll keep you updated."
Helen and Bob both nodded and left the warehouse to walk over to their kids. As they drove back home, they told them about everything.
Back at home Helen got dinner ready and the family sat together at the table, when Violet thought about what her parents said.
"So… A strange new villain just kidnapped another villain? Why would he do that?" She asked her family.
"Maybe it was a coincidence that he was taken." Bob answered.
Now everyone was looking at him with annoyed expressions.
"What? I mean. It's possible." He added.
Violet rolled her eyes and returned her gaze to the plate in front of her
"Yeah. A coincidence. In an abandoned warehouse out of town."
This made Bob understand his idea was highly unlikely. But Violet wasn't done yet.
"Maybe it's another robber who wanted the money for himself? And Bomb Voyage was in his way? So, he tracked him down and got rid of him." She continued.
Helen looked at her with a smile.
"That might be a lead. But we should wait until Dicker tells us more about it. There are many officers investigating right now. I bet it won't take them long to discover something."
Even though Violet was curious, she was worrying about her brother Dash more. She looked at him across the table, sitting there with sad eyes, facing his plate, seemingly lost in thoughts.
'Every time I think I make progress with our relationship, all of it seems to be lost the next day…' She thought to herself. Even a mysterious new villain in town couldn't improve his mood. Then… what could? Violet had an idea.
"Hey, Dash?"
Dash looked up from his plate and in the direction of his sister.
"Hm?"
Violet wore a warm smile on her face.
"Come with me after dinner. I need to show you something I found earlier." She said.
"Okay." Dash answered, returning the smile.
As dinner was finished, she led him outside to the pool area, then around the motel. They climbed a small ladder located on the outside wall and went onto the roof. Violet took Dash's hand and led him to the top of the roof and sat down.
"Come, sit next to me." She said softly.
As Dash sat down, Violet pointed in the direction they were facing.
"Look at this view."
She was right. It was beautiful. They could see the whole neighbourhood from the motel's roof. And even better, they could observe the wonderful sunset. The red sky with a few birds flying around, chirping, seemingly talking about how their day went. Dash was smiling widely now. And Violet counted it as a win. They sat there together, talking about the new villain and sharing their thoughts with each other. When the sun has finally set, Violet got up and helped Dash onto his feet.
"Come on, let's go inside and watch some tv with mom and dad." She suggested. And that's what they did.
In his office, Rick Dicker finished his work for the day. He was still on the phone talking to someone.
"You need to tell them if something happens. You're the only one I can trust with this."
He hung up and left the office. Walking down the street, he had a strange feeling. It felt like someone was watching him. Suddenly a thick fog appeared out of nowhere which had him confused.
"What is going on here?" He was asking himself.
When the sound of boots was coming closer from behind him, he turned around, facing a figure that stepped out of the fog. It was the same masked person that Bomb Voyage faced.
"Who are you?" Dicker asked warningly.
When there was no reply, he pulled out his phone.
"Leave, or I'll call the police."
The person stopped, a dim light shining through the eye slids of his mask. Suddenly, sparks came out of Dicker's phone. Throwing it to the ground, a loud "Damnit!" escaped his mouth. The attacker then raised his arm and every house and street around dicker faded into nothingness, leaving only the black of the night and the yellow lights coming from the stranger's eyes. When the fog disappeared, there were no signs of them. On the street lay Dicker's phone next to a glowing blue message burned into the street:
URIEL
Back at the Parr house, Dash and Violet went to their room after watching a tv show with their parents. As Violet sat on her bed while Dash was still brushing his teeth in the bathroom, she thought about asking him again. Not about what bothered him, as he didn't want to talk about it, but maybe he could tell her what it has to do with. When Dash entered their room and closed the door, Violet waved him over to her. He sat next to her, a curious expression on his face.
"Dash… I know you don't want to tell me what bothers you but… maybe you can tell me something else. Something like… what are you feeling because of it?"
Dash closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
"I am scared." He answered.
Violet felt like she made progress in finding out what bothers him.
"Okay and maybe one more question. Why does it scare you?"
This question made Dash tear up a little. He felt a strong urge to be honest with her. So, he said something that came from deep within his heart while starting to sob a little
"Because I love you."
This scared Violet a little. 'You are scared… because of… me?' She thought while looking at her brother wide eyed.
"Dash… Come here." She comforted him, hugging him tightly. And he needed it. There could never be anyone else than Violet to calm him down so fast. She was his comfort zone and safe place at the same time.
After Dash went over to his bed and the siblings said their goodnights, both of them lay down and Violet turned off the light. Even though she got her answers, she wasn't happy. It was worse actually. Now she thought about his answers. 'You are scared… because you love me?' This kept repeating itself over and over inside her head. 'But why… what is going on?' After thinking about this for what felt like hours, she closed her eyes and tried to think about things she could do with Dash the next day. And she had an idea. With a small smile on her face, she fell asleep. Dash on the other hand had to sort his own thoughts. 'Why did I tell her that? I don't want her to worry… And I definitely don't want her to think she is the reason I'm like this right now…'
Even though he was extremely tired, he couldn't fall asleep. Bad thoughts kept returning to him, keeping him awake. Finally, he managed to force himself to sleep. But since he worried so much, it was clear what came next.
