Chapter 6: The Calm before the Storm

Bob and Helen reached Edna's house, ringing her doorbell. While waiting for the gate to open, Helen looked over to her husband.

"What do you think Rick could have told her?" she asked.

"Probably something about that word. He must have known that investigating will be dangerous, that's why he entrusted those things to E, as she is unrelated to the police and most likely the last place the villain would expect information about him." Bob answered with his head down before adding

"I just wished he wouldn't have disappeared."

The screen right outside the car showed Edna's face and they heard the gate opening for them to drive through

"Come in!" She said.

As the two supers reached her house, she waved them in and closed the door behind them.

"Let's move into my living room, there we can talk, Darlings."

Bob and Helen sat down onto a big couch and both got a cup of coffee to drink.

"It's nice to see you E, but please tell us everything you know about what Dicker told you yesterday." Bob said with a smile.

Edna instead had a slightly annoyed expression on her face, which wasn't unusual, as she was never a person with much patience.

"What do you think I called you here for, darling? I called you the moment I heard about his disappearance because he told me to reach out to you the moment something unexpected happened. That is why you are here." She explained.

The two Incredibles just looked at each other before facing her again.

"Alright, what did he say?" They asked.

Back at home, Violet wore a wide smile while putting on her super suit. She had a great plan for the day. And she wanted it to be perfect. When she returned into the living room, her brother was already sitting at the table, wearing his own super suit and facing her with a curious expression.

"Why do we need our super suits?" He asked as he got up.

Violet just grabbed his hand and led him to the front door, opening it in the process while answering

"Just come with me, I'll tell you when we get there!"

The midday sun was shining bright and made the world around the siblings look incredibly colourful. They enjoyed the fresh air coming at them as the wind blew through their hair and faces as Dash followed his sister through the neighbourhood.

"Can you at least tell me where we're going?" Dash asked even more curious than before.

"We're going into town." Violet said, starting to walk faster. "Come on, it's not a short walk!"

As they speeded up a little, they looked around while talking. They went through the park before reaching the city. Violet led her brother a few streets through it before leaving it again and into the direction of Dash's school.

"Do you want to lead me to school? Is that where we're going?" Dash asked with a dry chuckle.

Looking at him, Violet smiled and shrugged.

"Kinda, yeah."

That had Dash confused. Why would she lead him there? As they reached it, Violet didn't stop. She walked past it and to the racing track next to the school. When they went up the stairs to the seats, Violet and Dash sat down next to each other. They then faced each other before Violet lay a hand on his shoulder.

"I know you always wanted to race, right? That's why I wanted to come here with you." She said smiling.

Dash couldn't believe it. Violet wanted to come all the way down here just for him? She really was the best sister ever. But there was one question left. Why did they need the super suits?

"You're incredible, Vi." Dash smiled at her. "But why do we need to wear our suits?"

That's when Violet got up and took his hand again. While walking down the stairs and onto the track, she explained what she had in mind.

"Do you remember when we were on the island, forming the Incredi-Ball?"

Dash's eyes widened at that.

"Of course I remember! Our powers complement each other's perfectly!" He answered.

Violet smiled at her brother at that enthusiastic response.

"Exactly! So come on, let's run around together!"

They hugged before Violet formed a forcefield around them, levitating into the air before Dash started to run around the track. At some point, other people came to the track, their attention immediately drawn to the siblings running around in a purple ball, laughing and cheering.

"Look! They're the siblings from the Incredibles family!" One of the people said as many other came over and sat down on the spectator seats.

Once Dash and Violet finished running around, they greeted everyone who gathered around them before leaving towards the city.

"That was so much fun, sis! Let's do it again sometime!" Dash screamed in excitement, jumping into the air.

"Definitely was! It's been a long time since I've laughed that much!" Violet answered with a chuckle.

"Now what do we do next, Vi?" Dash wanted to know.

She thought for a second before an idea came to her mind.

"Come on, let's head to the library. I want to see if we can find something out about that word 'Uriel'."

Edna came out of the kitchen with a small piece of paper.

"When Dicker called me, he said something about a new threat in the city that might not be human. I thought he was going crazy but he insisted on me writing something down to tell you, so that's what I did." She began reading the note before facing her guests again.

"That word "Uriel" is the name of an angel and means as much as "light of god". I don't understand how that might be helpful, but he wanted me to tell you. Afterwards he said that the name is connected to illusions. Maybe he is working with illusions to create that fog for example? Who knows. And then there was… not important. No, no… Ah here. The last thing he said is that Uriel is referred to as the angel of repentance who is just as merciless as demons are." Edna finished.

Helen's eyes moved around the room in confusion.

"That means that guy might call himself Uriel. But sadly, that's not much to work with. We need to find out more." She said, looking over to her husband.

Bob nodded in agreement before taking a deep breath and started

"Rick said whatever created those signs wasn't a normal human being. What if it actually is a superior being?"

Edna just threw a paper ball at him.

"The heat of then sun must have affected your capability of thinking, Robert. There aren't any superior beings. The supers are the most mysterious beings walking this earth. Maybe it is a super aswell." She considered as she wore a thoughtful expression on her face.

That idea seemed to give hope to the two heroes sitting in front of her.

"That's something. Let's return home and talk to the kids. Maybe they have ideas, too." Bob said, getting up from his seat. Helen and Edna followed him to the door.

"If you see that villain do me a favour and get rid of him for me darlings, before he's ruining every street with those ugly blue signs. Oh, and take care of yourselves, say hello to the kids from me and goodbye, I enjoy our visits!"

Edna closed the door in their faces, leaving them standing outside.

"Let's move home, I need to prepare dinner for tonight." Helen said before the two of them went back to their car and drove home.

In the library, Dash and Violet were insanely bored. They skipped through multiple books about theology without finding anything helpful. Dash was about to fall asleep when Violet suddenly shook him.

"I found something!" She said in excitement before continuing

"Listen: Uriel is the archangel of wisdom, light and truth people seek out if they are in search for answers."

Dash was a little puzzled.

"But how do you think that's a clue? I don't see any connection to those incidents the last few days."

Violet closed the book and faced her brother.

"I don't know. But whoever it is, he might have chosen his name based off of these things. And maybe we can start from there."

As it was already getting a little late, the two siblings made their way home.

As they came into the motel, their mom was busy preparing everything for dinner and their father was sitting on the couch, watching the news. He hoped to find out more about the mysterious villain in town. After the four shared all the information they gathered and the two siblings told their parents about their fun day at the racing track, Helen turned to Violet and asked

"Sweety, I'm sorry to bother you, but could you maybe go and pick up Jack-Jack from Kari's?"

With a smile on her face, Violet nodded and went out the front door. As she closed the door and walked a few meters, the door swung open again.

"Wait! Are you sure you wanna go alone?" Dash asked his sister.

"It's okay Dash, don't worry." She answered. "I'll be back in a few minutes."

"Please hurry, it's getting dark soon." Dash closed the door again and watched Violet leave.

She was almost at Kari's and the sun was nearly gone when she suddenly heard someone screaming. Violet started running and when she reached Kari's house, there was thick fog all around it. The young super froze when a tall figure stepped out of the house, watching her through a mask, the yellow glow of his eyes shining through the fog.

Violet's breathing got quicker as her fear grew stronger and made her shake. Suddenly, the fog became thicker, covering the figure completely before dissipating, leaving no signs of him.

"JACK-JACK!" Violet screamed, running to the front door of Kari's house.

Making her way through the rooms, she heard her baby brother babbling in the kitchen. With a sigh of relief, Violet picked him up and turned around, only to see a blue light coming from the wall:

URIEL

'Kari…' Violet thought as she ran out of the house with Jack-Jack in her arms. She ran as fast as she could. Scared and on the verge of tears, she made it back to the motel. Dash quickly caught sight of her and her expression, which is why he opened the door the second he saw his sister and baby brother coming. Violet rushed inside and Dash closed the door. This is when Violet put Jack-Jack down and started to cry in fear.

"I saw him, Dash!" She cried.

When they heard their daughter's scared voice, Helen and Bob came rushing out of the kitchen.

"Uriel took Kari! I saw him!" Violet explained.

Dash quickly hugged his sister tight around the neck, comforting her as good as he could. Bob's face quickly turned from worry to anger as he clenched his fist.

"That's it. We're going to stop that madman! I won't let anyone take away friends of our family or scare my children any longer." He said, a determined look on his face.

Helen quickly sat beside Violet before looking back at her husband.

"Yes. It's enough. We're superheroes. Let's take that lunatic down!" she added.

After they had dinner and Violet told her family everything she could, she returned to her bed with Dash following her shortly after. He kept looking at his sister for a little bit from his bed before deciding to walk over to her.

"Don't worry, Vi. We'll take him down and bring everyone back." He said, smiling reassuringly.

Violet returned that smile before pulling him in for another hug.

"Thank you, Dash. For everything. You helped me immediately when I got home and when I cried you comforted me. Just… thank you." She said, her gratitude written all over her face.

Dash looked at her with glassy eyes before saying

"Violet… that's what you did for me all the time since we got into this motel. I love you so much."

This brought tears to Violet's face again. But this time, they were happy tears.

"I love you too." She whispered.

They spend the rest of the evening playing videogames together before deciding it's time to sleep.

"Thank you for the beautiful day, Vi." Dash said before lying down.

Violet turned off the light and snuggled herself into her pillow

"I loved it too, Dash. We will definitely do that again, soon!"

And with that, both siblings fell asleep. The events of the day were stronger than the fear Violet had to face. Their time together was enough to turn darkness into a bright light.
