Be Your Law
"In or out of the closet?" Shego demanded.
"In," Kim admitted without thinking.
"Hego kicked me off the team when he caught me with a woman. I'd wish you luck, if you were anyone but you," Shego told her and left.
Kim shrugged and slowly sipped her latte when Shego stormed out, "That was weird."
Apparently Shego preferred women to men. Who knew? Of course so did Kim, but Kim believed only a very limited number of people knew that. Speaking of which – Kim pulled out her cell phone to leave another message for Ron.
Ron answered on the second ring, "You okay KP?"
"Yeah, I–"
"'Cause when you said you were meeting with Shego I was worried."
Kim chuckled, "If I hadn't been worried too I wouldn't have left the message."
"It was really Shego? You're okay?"
"It was really Shego. I'm okay."
"Uh, ouldcay hesay ebay oldinghay a ungay tay ouryay eadhay?"
"No, Ron. She got really pissed when we ran into each other. I wanted to call the police and she claims she's out on probation. She showed me what she claims is an ankle monitor she has to wear."
"You believe her?"
"I don't know. I'll call Wade or my brothers and see if they can get any information on her. She claims she's, like, doing some kind of work for the Defense Department or something."
"You believe that?"
"If I believed her I wouldn't ask Wade to see what he could dig up."
"Uh, KP? How did you and Shego bump into each other?"
"I posted a profile on an on-line dating site and–"
"You're not going to tell me Shego answered to have a date with you."
"Well. I signed up as Ann P, so Shego didn't know it was me. There are, like, several women claiming to be me on the site."
"And Shego contacted you?"
"I was Ann P, and Shego didn't say she was Shego. Anyway, we were supposed to meet at a coffee shop and things kinda blew up."
"Kim?"
"Yes?"
"So Shego knows you, uh, prefer girls?"
"I would assume so."
"So she could, uh, tell everyone in the world?"
"Darn! I hadn't–"
"You can say shit, KP. It's what you're thinking."
"It is not what I'm thinking... But it may be close. Hey, she thinks if I talk too much about her it might mess up her probation. Maybe I can threaten her and promise to keep quiet about her if she talks about me."
"That sounds a little like blackmail."
"I know, and I feel bad about it, but I–"
"Don't feel bad about it, KP. I'm proud of you."
Kim chuckled. "Thanks, Ron. I'll let you get back to homework, or whatever."
"Whatever. Let me know if you need help. Still got your back if you need me."
"Hope I don't need to call for help. I think Shego and I have neutralizing threats against each other."
Shego was in a foul mood. A fouler mood than usual. She couldn't remember the last time she was in a good mood... Perhaps when she's been given the chance for a get-out-of-jail card if she would serve as a guinea pig. Some of the test pilot work was a rush, but it was a professional rush, not a personal rush. Mostly the other pilots resented her for getting first crack at the new tech... Like any of them would have wanted to be at the stick of the one experimental model whose left wing had broken off shortly after take-off. She knew just which bastard she would like to have been in the cockpit rather than her. At least a couple of them had been cutting her a little more slack after that.
The Women-4-Women™ dating app had sounded like it might improve her mood. Ann P's description of herself sounded interesting even if the woman had sounded slightly naive. Shego had been willing to overlook that for the chance of a good time.
Shego was back at her Spartan room in the dormitory style apartment when her phone chimed, it was the sound produced by the Women-4-Women™ app.
Ann P: Tomorrow. Same shop.
2:00. Be there.
Xandy: Fuck off. Why?
Ann P: Ground rules.
Xandy: What the hell are
you talking about?
Ann P: You don't want me
talking to anyone about you.
I don't want you talking to
anyone about me.
Xandy: Oh, yeah. Your closet.
Look, Princess, I have no
plans to talk with anyone
about you. Happy?
Ann P: Tomorrow. Same shop.
2:00. Be there.
Xandy: Why?
Ann P: I'm bringing a pile of
Bibles for you to swear on.
Xandy: Fine. You're buying me
coffee. And a muffin for
making me listen to your shit.
Kim breathed a sigh of relief before falling into self-doubt. "Do I really need to make Shego promise to my face she won't tell Mom and Dad? She can lie as easily to my face as she can with chat." Maybe this was a bad idea. "If I really get her mad she might call mom and dad just to get back at me. At least," Kim figured, "I've got a day to figure out a legit reason... Maybe I'm testing her. If she wants me to keep silent bad enough that she shows up it means she's serious if she promises not to call Middleton."
Her internal dilemma at least partially resolved, she wondered if she should bring a Bible for Shego to swear on.
