Two weeks in a row? That's like...a miracle at this point! It's nice to be finding some inspiration again (even though I absolutely don't remember where this one came from, ha.)

Nighttime Chats

"Mmm…ap ap!"

"Nu, abapbap!"

"Meekee…"

Her eyes fluttered halfway open, and even with her lids still part way down, Misty rolled them. She loved her husband, of course she did, but the babbling in his sleep was getting to be a bit much. Misty waited a few more seconds to see if he started up again, but he seemed to have quieted down. With a content sigh, she allowed her eyelids to close once again and nestled her head more deeply into her pillow.

"Bee bee! Beeee!"

"Abapbab! Lop!"

"Hee, meekee, sibby."

Groaning, Misty pried her eyes open once again and this time, reached over to shove her husband's back. "Ash, quit it!"

"Mmm…huh?"

He sounded groggy, which meant he had been pretty solidly asleep. Misty was surprised she'd even be able to wake him as much as she had.

"You're talking in your sleep," Misty grumbled. "Like…a lot."

"Talm-king?" Ash softly slurred, his voice barely audible. "Mmm…don- thinso."

Misty scowled and was about to argue but stopped in her tracks as soon as she heard more babbling.

The incoherent sounds continued as Ash slowly rolled over; even in the dark of the room, Misty could make out the incredulous look on his face. "You thought that was me?"

"Well…yeah," Misty lamely replied, feeling her cheeks redden. "You do all kinds of weird stuff in your sleep!"

Ash pouted at the accusation, which got an earnest giggle out of his wife. "Okay, well that weird stuff wasn't me. So…who was it?"

Her mirth faded away as Misty thought that question over. She had been so sure it was Ash that she hadn't thought about who else could possibly be making such noises. Raising her eyebrow, Misty glanced towards Ash's pillow. Pikachu was curled up at the top of it, fast asleep.

"Are you looking at Pikachu?" Ash asked, the question as dubious as his facial expression. "Literally nothing I just heard sounded like 'Pikachu.' Which, uh, is all he can say."

"Gee, thanks," Misty grumbled, only slightly embarrassed she had forgotten that little detail. She was also aware that Vaporeon was down by her feet, but in the same vein as what Ash had just pointed out, none of what she'd been hearing had sounded like "Vaporeon" either.

And then, all of a sudden, it clicked. Misty felt stupid for not having realized it in the first place, but she was willing to blame it on the exhaustion. Smirking, she reached over to her nightstand and grabbed the small white rectangle that was situated there. She only had to look at the screen for a fraction of a second before her lips twisted into a full-blown grin. "Bingo."

Furrowing his brow, Ash finally sat up and leaned against Misty, peering over her shoulder. The screen in her hand showed a live feed of the twins' nursery, both cribs at the forefront. On the righthand side of the screen, Aiden was standing beside his crib's railing, holding onto the top with both hands while he chewed at it with what little teeth he had. Across the room, Michelle was sitting in hers, swinging a plush Pokémon around. When she glanced up and locked eyes with Aiden, the baby girl tilted her head and babbled some nonsense, leading Aiden to remove his mouth from the rail and respond to her in equally incoherent gibberish.

"It's been those two this entire time!" Ash gasped. "And I was getting the blame?!"

"I've never seen them do this before!" Misty cried, shrugging her shoulders. "It's like they're having a full-blown conversation in their own language!"

Ash looked up at Misty and blinked. "Maybe they are."

Misty matched his gaze and snickered. "No way! They can't even string two words together yet. How could they invent a whole different language and act like it makes sense?"

Now it was Ash's turn to shrug. "Don't know. But Professor Oak told me that sometimes twins do that. So…I was kind of waiting to see if it happened. Guess he was right!"

Misty just hummed noncommittally in response.

Once he realized that Misty wasn't going to say anything further, Ash asked, "should we go in there and do something about it? I mean, they should probably be sleeping."

"Yeah…" Misty sighed, placing the baby monitor back on the side table. "Time to break up the Chatty Twin Club."

Ash made the move to follow her, but suddenly paused, furrowing his brows. "Wait, so if they made up their own language to talk to each other…do you think that means they talk about us behind our backs?"

Misty sighed and slowly looked over her shoulder. "Ash, be real. It's their own language; they're probably talking about us right in front of our faces."

The little conversation Aiden and Michelle are having here is actually a real conversation. I wrote out what I thought they were saying and then just translated it into "twin speak" lol. So yes, there is an actual translation!
