harry, ron, and the rat that was currently sleeping in its cage stood before dumbledore. "so what do you think is wrong with scabbers?" ron asked harry. "whats wrong is this isnt a rat." harry growled. "professor, i had three uncles. not by blood but still family. one of them could turn into a dog, while the other could turn into a rat. i dont know what the other one could turn into or if he could turn into anything at all."
dumbledore nodded. "ah, yes. serius black, remus lupin, and peter pettigrew. i feel i know where youre going with this." dumbledore said. "my instincts are screaming at me that this rat isnt trustworthy." harry growled again. his pink laser turrets were also focused on the rat. "and my instincts are never wrong. to add to that, my laser turrets in this form tend to focus on anything that may be a threat. and they've been focused on thar rat since ron brought it here."
dumbledore nodded. "serius had told me that he, along with your father and petigrew were animagus. of course he had to register as an animagus shortly after since it is illegal to not be registered." harry then gave dumbledore a look. "is there a spell for turning an animagus back to human?" harry asked. dumbledore nodded. "first, i recommend we stun mr. petigrew." dumbledore said. harry nodded and shifted to his shock form. he had to fight the urge to do more then just stun the rat. aiming his cannon at 'scabbers,' harry fired a shot. a yellow cage like construct appeared around the rat. forcing him to hold still.
thid woke the rat up but there was nothing he could do. harry quickly switched to his dark form. shuddering slightly at his use of the slightly unhinged form.
dumbledore waved his wand at the rat and harry and ron watched as the rat turned into a blonde chubby man. harry recognized him as his uncle. he aimed his cannon at the former rat.
"why?" harry said. he was shaking with anger. "why did you betray us, uncle?" peter didnt meet harry's eyes. "i had no choice." peter said. "if i didnt, he would've killed serius, remus, me, and everyone else i cared about. james was one of my best friends. and lily. it was better if i betrayed them and most of them lived rather then all of us die." peter was sobbing now. "i dont deserve forgiveness, but id rather the lot of you hate me then you all be dead. i didnt even know you were alive until ron and i met you on the train." ron spoke up at that point. "speaking of which. you want to explain why you decided pretending to be my pet rat was a good idea. you couldve escaped at any time." ron said.
peter's head fell. the paralysis had worn off but he wasnt making any attempts to escape. "it was a fate i deserved. i betrayed my friends. i dont deserve to walk amomgst humans like an equal."
"what about the muggles that were killed?" dumbledore asked. "what muggles?" peter asked. now confused. "the ones that were killed in the explosion during serius and your fight." dumbledore asked. "there werent any muggles. i led serius to an abandoned ghost town. i would never put innocent people in harms way. i made that explosion as a distraction." dumbledore looked like he wanted to ask something else but the group was distracted by green flames appearing in a fireplace and a slightly heavyset man coming out of the flames.
"ah, albus i brought the virati-" the man started but stopped when he saw the chubby man being held ar cannon point by a strange creature he'd never seen. "i believe ive walked in on something?" the man said in a confused tone. "ah, cornelius. yes join us please the viratiserum will be very helpfull." the man walked over to albus. he was still giving harry a strange look. he handed albus a vial and he turned to peter. peter surprisingly didnt resist and opened his mouth. a few drops were dropped on his tongue and the questioning began.
a few hours later it was discovered that everything peter had said previously was true. peter was willing to go to azkeban for his crimes but fudge, as that was his name apparently, thought of something else. while it was true that he had betrayed his friends he was not the one to kill them. peter still felt he should be punished in some way. fudge came up with the idea od making peter a janitor of the ministry of magic. that would be a lot to clean. it wasnt that much of a punishment and explaining this to serius and remus certainly wasnt going to go well. but this was the best they could think of due to the circumstances.
harry and ron returned to the dorms. and then harry instantly hated it as ron was a loud sleeper. he woke several of his dorm mates up when he swapped to air mode and crashed through a window. all anyone saw was a humanoid shape flying towards the dark forest.
so yeah peter is more or less good in this timeline but still is responsible for harry's parents being killed. now i know what yoyr thinking. isnt he getting off easy? yes and no. peter is going to be the target of serius and remus's hatred for quite some time after this. you'll see what i mean.
