As if the situation didn't already sound like a boy's dream come true, Kama learned Ritsuka had been staying at an all-girls school. She gave him a side-eye when that pipsqueak who commanded the airship told her that. Kama wondered if he had already worked his charm on anyone here… besides those twins who helped them that is. Her intuition when it came to this sort of thing was never wrong— it was in her job description after all.
Either way, she stood guard around her Master as nearly everyone else in the temporary quarters fell asleep. Ritsuka was snoozing away on the bed with Fou right next to his head, covering his face with his fluffy tail. Kama wondered once again why they kept that annoying punt-size beast around but whatever. Xu Fu basically passed out immediately on the sofa upon coming in. As for the twins, one of them soon drifted asleep while sitting next to Ritsuka's bed. Too bad it was the twin she did not not like.
She and Sentience, as she called herself, were currently having a stare-down while simultaneously trying to ignore the other's existence. Kama could only wonder what was going on in her mind as Senti's eyes drifted from her to Ritsuka and her twin. After what seemed like an eternity of tense silence— "So what made you fall head over heels for him?"
That nearly knocked Senti off of her seat, stammering before putting on a face that was a mix of annoyance and bemusement. "Hah! You've got some nerve saying that!" She let out a gleeful cackle, wiping the non-existent tears from her eyes.
Meanwhile, Kama could only roll her eyes at the poor attempt at hiding one's emotions. It was simply pitiful and pathetic. "Are you telling me I'm mistaken?" It was either that or Senti did not realize her feelings towards Ritsuka; Kama did not know which was more hilarious.
"Sorely mistaken. Do you think I'm some sort of innocent maiden who'd fall for some nice guy?" Senti scoffed, crossing her arms in indignation. "News flash, I'm not some lowly human whose heart can be stolen so easily."
'That's what they all say,' Kama rolled her eyes again. She was feeling second-hand embarrassment from Senti's continued denials. Before she could continue mocking Senti about her obvious infatuation, a polite knocking on the door cut their conversation short. Kama drifted over and opened it to see the pipsqueak from earlier.
"Oh, hello… Kama, was it? Are the others available?" The child-sized headmistress asked, to which Kama just floated away, letting her in. "You're the only one up, Senti?" She asked upon entering and noting everyone else was resting.
"Yeah, they're all pooped out after the fight. Though I'm surprised the old timer fell asleep so quickly. She was so vigilant up until Ritsuka fell asleep," Senti shrugged, glancing again at her twin. They continued talking with Kama keeping an ear trained in case something interested her.
Soon enough, the topic turned towards herself with the pipsqueak glancing at the seemingly disinterested Assassin. "You're one of Ritsuka's companions, right? May I ask how you and your partner ended up in the forest?"
"A bunch of us Servants went looking for him after he went missing and we ended up in some weird place," Kama not-so-helpfully replied. "Then Xu Fu and I fell through a wall and landed in that forest with all those beasts. That reminds me, why did you call those things Ganesha? He's an elephant, not a pig… well, the one in Chaldea is a pig at times but that's beside the point."
ACHOO!
"…Someone's talking shit about me."
"Uh… Could you please elaborate?" Pipsqueak asked with a shaky smile. "It might shed more light on our situation."
Kama can understand that, but she'd rather not talk until Ritsuka is awake; he should be in the loop about his own servants and Kama dislikes repeating herself. Fortunately, a muffled noise from Ritsuka signaled that he was getting up. Fou cried out his name before jumping off the bed, scurrying on the floor and leaping onto Pipsqueak's shoulder. "Aww…" Kama rolled her eyes yet again as Pipsqueak cooed at the furball's cuteness and petted him. She swears the little beast was doing it on purpose but nevertheless, they had bigger things to discuss than him leveraging his appearance.
Ritsuka let out a yawn as he got up, rubbing his eyes. "Oh, morn… What time is it?" He asked, still somewhat drowsy.
"It's still afternoon," Senti snorted.
As Ritsuka let out another yawn, Fu Hua stirred awake too and matched his yawn with her own. Kama resisted the urge to roll her eyes this time; synchronized sleep schedules already?
"Now that you all are awake— well, most of you…" Pipsqueak's eye flickered over at Xu Fu , still dozing away without a care. "What exactly brought you all here?"
With Ritsuka now included, there was little point to keeping up the vague act. "No idea," Kama bluntly replied much to Pipsqueak's mild irritation.
"Kama, start from the beginning, please?" Ritsuka gently encouraged her, making her pout but still obliged.
"After you pulled that vanishing act, Chaldea was in an uproar. The current working theory from Miss Scientist is that SHEBA lost you for a second; which caused you to slip from existence within the Singularity," Kama started relaying the events that transpired after Ritsuka's disappearance. "And then yesterday, it was decided we should investigate the Imaginary Sea for any clues. Several of us Servants joined the mission, mainly as guards for the Captain, only for it to blow up in our face immediately. The second we got in, something happened and next thing we knew, we were stranded in a weird place."
Kama described the place they landed and noticed looks of recognition coming from the others, including her Master. "Who else was on the mission?" Ritsuka asked, worried over the others who could very well still be stuck there. Naturally there was Nemo, but who else?
"Other than the Captain, there was the Dragonslayer and his stab-happy wife."
"Siegfried?"
"What?"
"No, the other one."
"Oh, Sigurd and Bryn."
Kama did not miss the Pipsqueak's reaction to the mention of the other Dragonslayer with a murderous wife, but she elected to ignore it. "That consort also joined since her husband was helping which in turn, led to her stowing away." She made a pointed glare towards the snoozing alchemist, who was happily muttering about "Gu-sama…" with a grin. "Then there's the Valkyries—"
"Excuse me?"
"—and Professor Prehistoric," Kama finished with a disinterested scoff. It was quite the roster of Servants, almost all the base classes covered; they were just missing a Caster. That aside, Ritsuka should be able to figure out who's who by himself. The new people could continue to be clueless for all she cared. "Then earlier, she and I were talking on the ship when we just… fell through the wall, found ourselves in the forest, and you know the rest."
"...You're not good at talking, are you?" Pipsqueak bluntly replied with a flat look. "Well, at least we've got some new information. Did you get all that, Tesla?"
"Yes," came the voice of the redheaded pipsqueak. She flickered into the room as a hologram with her eyes on her tablet. "Without a doubt, they ended up in the Sea of Quanta just as Fujimaru did. That begs several questions, namely, with how coincidental the series of events are." The holographic researcher glanced up from her screen at Pipsqueak. "Things have been lining up neatly too much for my liking. Fujimaru's appearance and… their own arrival in the forest where he was going to go and on top of that, the attempt on his life. The chances are looking more and more likely that something is working behind the scenes. Two somethings to be exact."
Pipsqueak nodded in agreement at the assessment. "One is trying to kill Ritsuka; the other is whoever or whatever brought him here in the first place."
"Fou fou!"
"The average week for me then," Ritsuka tried to joke, putting on a smile for the others. Kama, though, knew he was tired. "But that leaves us with even more questions."
"If this is the average week for you, I'd shudder to think what would be an eventful one," the other Pipsqueak hummed before turning to something on her side. "Hmm, agreed. Welt wants to ask about this Imaginary Sea you mentioned. Is it related to the Sea of Quanta in any way?"
Kama gave a look of "how am I supposed to know?", prompting Ritsuka to step in. "It's actually called Imaginary Numbers Space," he elaborated, trying to recall what he remembered about it. "It's sort of a pocket dimension underneath the real world where time and space is a bit… janky. I'm not sure if they're related but they are definitely not the same if that's what you're thinking. I've gone into it enough times to tell the difference."
"Hmm… I'll take your word for it," the hologram nodded after a moment. She then nodded again before relaying what Welt told her "We're closing in on St. Freya; about 5 minutes before we arrive."
Well, it's time to see what this St. Freya was. Kama wondered what sort of antics Ritsuka had already gotten into since they last saw him…
While she did not believe Ritsuka was leading them on with his tales of adventure, the Servants as they were called being here cleared any doubts anyone had about him.
That being said, Fu Hua did not know what to make of the new arrivals. They were… definitely something alright; it was mainly a gut feeling but something felt off about each of them. Xu Fu seemed the most normal, albeit a little quirky with her doll she called "Gu-sama". Nothing terrible as far as she could tell but Fu Hua kept her guard up nevertheless. The other two, however…
Ignoring how she and Senti were grinding each others' gears, Kama was a danger; perhaps not to Ritsuka, but a danger all the same. She gave off an air of disinterest and indifference, but carried an aura that reminded Fu Hua of Herrschers. It was only similar but not something that could be ignored. She will have to ask Ritsuka more about Kama later.
Similarly and much more strangely, the fluffy… squirrel-rat named Fou also carried that same aura. He was also pretty feisty; when not acting like a cute pet perched on Ritsuka's or even Theresa's shoulder, Fou was punching either Kama's or Senti's cheeks like a baby. It was adorable if not suspicious. The fact that he only hit a Herrscher and something similar to one was concerning. In fact, Fu Hua had noticed the small animal tilting his head at her and Welt earlier, as if trying to judge for himself what they were. Despite his size and appearance, it was plain as day that it was deceptively intelligent.
In any case, Ritsuka returned to his room with armed escorts including herself. Fortunately, it was still time for class so they didn't run into any students, though some might have seen them through the windows. It could not be helped; now that they knew he had a target on his back, Ritsuka needed protection and there was nothing like being surrounded by a Herscherr, a Herscherr-like individual, Valkyries, Schicksal guards, and whatever Servants are.
…Then again, they were still attacked in spite of checking some of those bugs earlier. At least being in the middle of St Freya would give any would-be assassin some pause. If they did try, Fu Hua would have a new training dummy to practice with.
Any further discussions would have to be saved for later however, so Theresa and the others left with a couple of guards outside of Ritsuka's room. As soon as they entered, Xu Fu zipped towards the table and began setting up equipment she pulled out of nowhere. Kama, meanwhile, claimed the bed for herself but kept an eye on them as they talked.
"Are you sure you're alright?" Fu Hua asked again, scanning up and down his body. He had already visited the medical bay earlier on the ship to check for any injuries or infections, but Fu Hua was still worried about him.
Ritsuka couldn't help but let out a light chuckle. "I'm fine, I'm fine. There's no need to worry about me. I've gone through worse."
She could only narrow her eyes at him, thinking he was taking the prospect of someone coming after his life too easily. Senti clearly had the same thought and smacked him in the back of the head. "That's beside the point. You'd be paste on the grass had I not caught you," she pouted while crossing her arms. Her eyes wandered over to meet Kama's gaze as a smirk stretched across her face. "So really, it's only thanks to me you got out of the forest ali—owowowowow!"
Senti yelped in pain as Fu Hua pulled on her ear, stopping her from antagonizing Kama any further. The strange woman, however, blew a tongue at Senti— "Kama…" —only for her to pout as Ritsuka gave her a disapproving glance. Senti quickly freed herself from Fu Hua's grasp and glared at her which she ignored.
"In any case, do you have any idea who could be after me?" Ritsuka asked with a look of contemplation. "Anyone in this world I should be wary of?"
"No, not anymore," Fu Hua answered with a sigh, various faces flashing in her mind at his question. "No one should even be aware you exist." That was the strangest part in her mind; Ritsuka was a nobody in their world, and this one didn't even exist until a few days ago, yet someone was out to get him.
Ritsuka had to raise an eyebrow at her choice of words, however. "Not anymore? What do you mean?"
"The Honkai Beasts, someone had commanded them to attack you." A grave expression spread across Fu Hua's face. "Not many could do that and the remaining who could would have no reason to."
"Unless Miss Tuna decided to sick some on him as a prank," Senti snorted, only to get a brief glare from Fu Hua. "Yeesh, it's just a joke. Besides, she prefers bullets to blades, doesn't she?"
"As I've said, there is no reason for anyone here to know who you are or have a reason to kill you," Fu Hua repeated only to be interjected again. This time, by one of Ritsuka's Servants.
"As far as we know," Xu Fu stated without looking up from what she was doing. "We have zero clue as to why Master is even here but if he is here for a reason, then someone has every reason to try and stop him. He's stopped many schemes before— including mine and her over there. If there is someone planning something big and learns he's here, it would be in their best interest to take him out."
That only takes them back to square one of how anyone knew who Ritsuka was in the first place, much less that he was here. They were caught in a loop at this point and could only wait for more clues to appear. Theresa had sent an investigation team to look into the crash and what hit it— perhaps that could lead somewhere…
Fu Hua would suggest they sleep and figure it out with the others in the morning… only to remember it was not even past 4 yet. So they will have to pass the time some other way and fortunately, there was something they could talk about. "What exactly did she mean by stopping their schemes?" Fu Hua's eyes flickered between the lazing Kama and tinkering Xu Fu.
"Ah… That's… that's a long story and way ahead of where we left off," Ritsuka laughed nervously, his own gaze drifting towards his two Servants who were whistling innocently now that the topic was on them. "I'll just continue where we stopped. It was… London, right?"
While she was still curious about the stories behind Kama and Xu Fu, Fu Hua trusted that Ritsuka would tell the story in due time, and decided to settle in for his tale…
Failed. Always a failure. Things could never go right for him.
No matter. He won't give up. This has always been and will always be an uphill battle with all the odds stacked against him… but he'll come out on top.
In the meantime, he needed to figure out another course of action…
