Chapter 16
It was a few days later and Jamie was at school, getting his books from his locker. He was still trying to process the emotions he had started feeling, more strongly than ever, after saving Sam from Chameleon.
'Damn, I need to, I need to think of how to deal with this. I can't keep doing this, not when just being friends puts Sam in danger...can't make it worse.' He thought worriedly.
"...mie, Jamie, dude, you there?"
Jamie startled and turned, only to feel his face heat up as he saw Sam standing there. He looked miles better than he had, clearly having recovered from his ordeal and was most certainly back to school now. Better still, he was absolutely certain it was really Sam, no warning from his Spider-Sense.
"Sam, boy...I'm glad to see you." Jamie said honestly, a warm smile appearing on his face. "Welcome back."
Sam nodded. "Thanks, I...I gotta be honest, I was a little anxious after what happened but...I'm fine now and I'm happy to be back. Back to see you and the others, yeah."
Jamie tried not to look too much into it and nodded. "It's good to see you back, dude. We all missed you here."
Sam smiled happily at that before opening his locker and getting his books out while Jamie stood by him.
What Jamie didn't know was that Sam was feeling rather awkward too, his gaze flicking to the side of his eye, towards Jamie himself.
'Damn, I...I can't believe everything that happened to me...but Jamie was worried about me, that's...oh dude…' He thought, feeling conflicted. 'It's nice, but I'm also unable to deny that I am definitely crushing so much more on Spider-Man now, he actually saved me…'
He tried to push the conflict out of mind for now, he was back at school and needed to focus on it.
As if noticing his behaviour and growing worried, Jamie spoke up. "Sam, are you okay dude?"
"Huh, oh y-yeah, sorry, I was spacing out." Sam said quickly.
Jamie bit his lip. "Huh, I see…"
They lapsed into silence for a bit as they began walking to their first class. Finally, a little concerned that the reason Sam was spacing out might be some lingering trauma after what happened to him.
"Sam, are you really okay, I mean, with what Chameleon did to you and-" Jamie began.
Sam shook his head. "I'm fine, yeah, it was scary and I do still have some lingering, you know, fears. But I'm okay, really...I just need to get back to normalcy."
Jamie nodded slowly, a little concerned still, but accepting Sam's reply and soon they reached their class where Laurel, Jennifer and Natalie were standing chatting, only to become even happier when they saw Sam arrive. Jamie laughed and nudged Sam good-naturedly as he girls greeted him, Sam smiled, glad to be back with his friends, appreciating the warm welcome.

Swinging down the street, alert to any signs around him to indicate what he was looking for, Spider-Man readied himself, remaining cautious.
'Let's see now, what would be a good place to start...I need to find something, anything that will put me on the trail of these remaining assassins.' Spider-Man reflected. 'I can't just keep waiting for them to make moves, I need to find a way to turn the tables...but, oh-'
He stopped, flipping up onto a ledge and watched the scene below him, he couldn't help but feel hopeful. By pure luck he had spotted a disused construction site, a Fisk Construction Site. Inside the site, talking amongst themselves were none other than three of the assassins, namely Rhino, Scorpion and Vulture.
"Bingo." Spidey whispered to himself.
Taking his chance he turned invisible and moved closer until he was able to perch on a lamp post right above them.
"So, why have you called me here, I am busy?" Vulture groused.
Scorpion laughed darkly "Ohh, touchy, we've got a plan, we're going to take down the Spider, both Rhino and I, he can't beat both of us. Whoever gets the killing blow gets the bounty."
"We will lure the Spider to the docks that Kingpin owns, we just need to tell him our plans so he can set things up." Rhino explained. "Then we create a fuss that will draw attention."
Vulture snarled. "You wasted my time for this?"
"We are offering you a chance to join us." Scorpion remarked.
Vulture just growled and shook his head, but he then flew off, clearly wanting no part of Rhino and Scorpion's plan to ambush him.
Spidey shook his head. 'This is crazy, but at least it's only two of them and not three, Vulture is off to do something else. But I've gotta take care of Rhino and Scorpion first...Hmm, I know the docks they're talking about, this gives me a chance.'
So, seeing his chance, Spidey swung away, turning visible again as he headed for the docks, prepared to spring a trap of his own, hoping to turn the tables on the dangerous duo.
What neither the criminals, or Spider-Man knew, was someone else had overheard and bit his lip. Sam shook his head, looking down at his camera.
'I know it's crazy, but I need a new Spider-Man photo set for the Bugle...this could be good, really good.' He reflected. 'Alright, just, be careful, stay out of the way and get my shots.'
With that he readied himself and began heading that way himself.
End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
