In U.A. Academy...
Melissa woke up early, not able to get any rest last night. She felt like there was something that she needed to finish working on. She got up and threw on her school uniform pretty quickly. Even though today was a Sunday, she just had to work on some things. She couldn't just laid down any longer and ran over to U.A. without waking up anyone.
She wondered if Hatsume was up and already working on some inventions. She wouldn't be surprised if she was already working on something in the support lab. Hatsume wasn't one to stop working so easily. Ever since she finished making that portal, she had been inspired to make much larger and bulkier inventions. She let out a sigh, knowing full well that she might let off an explosion soon.
Melissa soon found herself heading into the school when she got a call. She looked through her backpack and grabbed her phone.
Once she spotted who was calling her, she didn't hesitate to answer.
"Hello? Deku?" Melissa said to him through her phone, "What're you doing up so early in the morning?"
"Hey Melissa. I actually couldn't sleep last night," Midoriya said back, "I need to talk to you about something important. Marinette and I talked and... we were hoping that you could let one of her friends come over. At least just for one day."
Melissa was surprised to hear him say this, especially after what happened the other day. She figured that he would stay away from the portal, but now he wants her to use it to let someone through. She knew that Marinette wasn't someone that would take advantage of this kind of invention. Whatever was going on, she knew that it was important to them both.
"May I ask why you need the portal opened?" Melissa asked as she headed towards it.
"It's kind of complicated. Do you want me to head over there?" Midoriya asked her, "It might be better to explain things in person. Besides, I could use some fresh air right about now."
Melissa smiled, knowing full well that Midoriya needed her help.
"Sure. You come over to the portal, and we'll talk things out," Melissa said back, "I'll be waiting."
"Thanks Melissa. I owe you one."
They both hung up, and Melissa let out a sigh. She couldn't help worry about him, but knew that he could handle things for now. Whatever reason he needed the portal open, she knew that Marinette was okay with it. She headed over there, hoping that the portal was working properly. It was quiet in the school as she headed over there.
Soon enough, she came across the room the portal was in. She took out her keycard and swiped it against the lock. It lit up, and the doors opened so she could go inside. Melissa's eyes instantly locked onto the portal, ready to help out Midoriya. She remembered how things went down when Midoriya and Adrien came over to check on the portal.
Apparently, the portal connected to this machine back in their Paris. There was all sorts of information on her friends back there. About quirks, their strengths and weaknesses. However it happened, the portal had something to do with it. She tried to figure out why this would be happening, but wondered if it was just familiar with them through them going to Paris. What she didn't understand is how all of that information about them would even go from the portal to the machine.
Then she remembered something that Midoriya mentioned about the machine. It was what took his quirk and Bakugo's as well. She didn't even understand how that this was even possible. She didn't even think that anyone could take someone's quirk away. She knew about Midoriya's quirk and where it came from, but that was different. Someone from their Paris was able to take someone's quirk and make it into a Miraculous.
She felt a chill go up her back, feeling intimidated just by talking about it with Midoriya. She couldn't imagine what that must've felt like for Midoriya and Bakugo. She didn't know Bakugo very well, but she could tell that it wasn't very pleasant. Melissa activated the screen, and it lit up so brightly that she had to look away for a moment.
Melissa looked at the screen and put in the password. Once it opened up, some kind of warning came up on her screen. Her eyes widened in shock, realizing that someone tried to get through the password. She tried to turn off the warning and soon noticed that no one had tampered with the portal. Somehow someone had found access through a computer or something like that. Fortunately, they couldn't get through.
She let out a sigh, hoping that whoever did this would give up trying to get through. She looked through the files, hoping that nothing was tampered with. Looking through some of them, she didn't notice anything weird. Everything was in order as they should be. All of the technical files that help it run were all in order. Even the files that were less important were still fine as well.
Then she came across the file that connected this portal to their Paris.
Melissa got nervous to open it, but soon clicked on it. She looked through it and nothing was out of the ordinary. Melissa didn't understand who or what was trying to get through to the portal's files. Whoever it was, they didn't seem to mess with anything. They couldn't even get through to the password. Melissa knew that she had to keep an eye on this portal for awhile until Midoriya gets here.
"Deku. You better get over here fast."
In Class 2-A's dormitory...
Midoriya quietly went back to his dorm room to grab something to wear. He threw on some casual clothes since there was no school today. He hoped that Mr. Aizawa wouldn't spot him leaving. Even Iida wouldn't allow him to leave without permission. He wanted to explain things later, but right now he had to get to the bottom of things with Melissa.
He grabbed his backpack, Miraculous and phone and headed back towards the common room. Midoriya carressed his throat, remembering how weird his nightmare felt last night. He stood in the elevator just rubbing his throat for a while there. Something about it felt so dry even after drinking so much water. He didn't understand why his throat felt this way, but tried to ignore it. He had to get over to the portal before anyone caught him.
It was already past five o'clock, so he knew that a few of his classmates would be getting up soon. Once the elevator opened up, he spotted Bakugo already up along with Kirishima and of course Iida. He let out a sigh, knowing full well that Iida was going to lecture him. He exited the elevator, and they all spotted him right away.
Iida looked at his backpack, and Midoriya knew where this was going.
"Midoriya. What're you doing up so early? It doesn't look like you're going jogging," Iida pointed out.
Midoriya hesitated for a moment, but he had to explain a little bit of what was going on. He went to reach for his throat, but stopped himself before he could rub it. He grabbed his phone, ready to call Marinette.
"Things have come up. Me and Marinette were talking over the phone last night," Midoriya said to him, "Me and her agree that Alya should come over here to help figure things out. Something's going on around U.A., and she thinks that Alya can help us get closer to what exactly is going on."
Iida was shocked to hear Midoriya even mention bringing someone over here from Paris. Even Bakugo and Kirishima were paying attention to what was going on.
"Midoriya. What are you talking about? What would Alya be helping out with?" Iida asked him, "There's nothing going on here."
Midoriya hesitated to answer him even though Iida should clearly understand why he's doing this. He bit his lip, not sure if he should tell him right now.
"Iida. I can't get into this right now," Midoriya said to him, "I need to know what's going on around here. I can't explain it, but I just have this feeling that something is wrong. I need to meet up with Melissa right now. She's waiting for me by the portal."
Before he could leave the dormitory, Iida grabbed his wrist to stop him from leaving.
"Did you even get permission to do this? Mr. Aizawa wouldn't just let you do this out of the blue," Iida asked him.
Midoriya hesitated to answer, which was enough of an answer for Iida. His grip tightened, not wanting to let Midoriya do this.
"Midoriya. You can't keep doing this," Iida told him, "Don't you realize what you're doing? You're running into trouble again just like last time. You can't keep doing this to our class and yourself. Do I have to remind you of what happened with you and Chrysalis?"
Midoriya flinched from that comment and could barely look at Iida in that moment. He built up the courage once he remembered the nightmares he had been having of her and even Skylar. Iida seemed to back away a little once he faced him.
"You think I don't know that. I have nightmares of her ever since," Midoriya said back, "That's why I have to do this. To stop these nightmares from coming. This feeling... I know that something isn't right here. There's something else going on here, and I need to know what so that this doesn't get worse."
Iida loosened his grip around Midoriya's wrist and soon let him go. They stood there, wondering what to do about this.
"You still shouldn't go alone," Iida said as a slight blush formed under his eyes, "I-I'll come with you. Melissa will need all the help that she can get."
"Iida. I don't want you getting into trouble as well," Midoriya said to him, "Besides, you should help everyone else here with hero training and school work. I'll take the blame and say that I didn't listen to you. I can't get you into trouble as well."
"I'll go," Bakugo interrupted them, "Whatever's going on, it clearly has to do with Sparkles. There's something off about her and her quirk."
Midoriya wasn't surprised at this point that Bakugo wanted to help him out. He walked over to him and felt a sense of relief having him by his side. Something about having him here helped him relax, especially after having such a weird nightmare last night.
"Bakugo, you can't just judge our new classmate! She's just started going to school here!" Iida exclaimed.
"Whatever. I still agree with Izuku. There's something weird going on around here. I'll go with him to make sure he doesn't get into any trouble," Bakugo explained to them, "Hopefully this is nothing like the situation with Chrysalis."
Midoriya got a huge chill up his back, remembering how weird it felt dealing with Chrysalis. He really hoped that Bakugo was right and that this wasn't anything like Chrysalis. If anything, he hoped it was something less intense.
Iida looked at the both of them and adjust his glasses.
"Come on Iida. They're just going to meet up with Melissa. I'm sure Alya can help us out a lot. She's really good at that sort of thing," Kirishima told him.
"Fine. But Mr. Aizawa is not going to like this when he finds out what you two are up to," Iida told them.
"We're use to it by now," Bakugo said back as he shoved his hands in his pockets.
Midoriya couldn't help but blush from embarrassment, knowing full well that he was right. He could barely look at Iida as Bakugo and Midoriya headed out of the dormitory. For a moment, he noticed Bakugo stop in his tracks.
"You can cut the act with Melissa though and just ask her out already," Bakugo said back, "I'm sure she's waiting for you to say something."
Midoriya was surprised to hear him say that, and Iida's face turned bright red from embarrassment. He looked so flustered that he couldn't even speak up. Soon enough, Bakugo left the dormitory with Midoriya behind him. He walked over to the school quietly with Bakugo next to him. Midoriya wanted to say something about what he said to Iida just now, but decided not to bring it up.
He had to call Marinette first before they got over there.
Midoriya quickly called her, telling her that they were going to open the portal in a little while. Alya was more than welcome to come over. He still wanted to ask her about Ember, but he knew that now wasn't the time to do so. She told him that Alya was on her way over and was so excited to see them. Once he ended the call, Midoriya noticed that his throat was still dry.
He cleared his throat, remembering that weird burning sensation from his nightmare. He rubbed his throat, hoping that he wasn't coming down with something. It felt sore like something was bothering him. It didn't burn like it did in his nightmare. If anything, it felt like something was missing as he rubbed it. Something about it made him upset, and he didn't understand why.
"Are you coming down with something because I can't be getting sick at a time like this," Bakugo asked him.
Midoriya wondered if he should talk to him about this. He was the only one that might understand what was going on with him. He had a weird nightmare and could barely remember anything about it. All he remembered was this weird burning sensation coming from his throat, and a weird sense of loneliness. He didn't understand what it meant, but it bothered him more than it should.
"N-No. It's nothing like that..." Midoriya trailed off, not sure if he should say anything, "I just..."
Bakugo noticed him hesitate and stopped walking. Midoriya turned around to see Bakugo sending him a suspicious glare. He stiffened up and knew that he was onto him.
"Izuku. I know you," Bakugo said back, "Clearly something is bothering you. Whatever it is, I need you to tell me. We don't want things to get out of hand like last time."
Midoriya knew that he was right. Even if it was just a dream, he knew that it might mean something. After what happened with Chrysalis, his nightmares were getting more intense and specific. Even the more recent one definitely felt different than the other ones. He didn't want it to mean anything, but he knew that Bakugo was right. Whatever happened, it had to do with whatever was going on.
Midoriya rubbed the back of his head and felt a little better talking to Bakugo about this.
"W-Well... I kind of had a weird nightmare last night," Midoriya said to him, "I don't really remember it very well, but all I remember is this weird burning sensation in my throat. It might have had something to do with when I was a kid. I don't know why, but it felt a little familiar. Like maybe it was something that I should know about."
Bakugo seemed a bit thrown off by this nightmare as they walked to the school. Midoriya side glanced at him and noticed him thinking about it. Something about it confused him, and he wondered what he was getting at. He didn't talk about it the whole way there, but Midoriya still felt that dryness in his throat. He wondered if it had anything to do with One for All. When he thought about it however, something about it told him he was going in the wrong direction.
Midoriya rubbed his throat and looked at Bakugo who was still thinking about it. He soon remembered that day when he found out that he was quirkless. Something inside of him felt hurt even though it was a long time ago. He felt like these feelings of loneliness were coming up again, which made his stomach tie in knots.
He tried to shake it off, but his throat still bothered him.
"Let's just forget about it for now. I need to get to Melissa and make sure everything's running smoothly," Midoriya told him.
He looked at Bakugo who was still contemplating on what was going on with Midoriya. He hoped that Bakugo would drop it for now, and they kept going towards the school. They soon entered and found themselves walking down the hallways. Something about walking over to the portal felt different this time around. Midoriya felt a little off like they shouldn't be doing this. He tried to shake it off, but it wasn't going away anytime soon.
Midoriya knew where he was going, so Bakugo followed him. He felt a weird feeling that someone was watching them from somewhere. He couldn't understand where this feeling was coming from, but he looked around to see only him and Bakugo in the hallway. He felt chills go up and down his back and noticed Bakugo looking at him.
"You don't feel that? This weird feeling like someone is watching us?" Midoriya asked him.
Bakugo's eyes widened in shock and looked around to find nothing. No one was following them, and there was nothing out of the ordinary. He looked back at Midoriya, and he clearly didn't know what to make of this. Once he told him about someone possibly watching them, he felt like someone was here.
"You think someone is watching us? Who the hell would be watching us in U.A.? It would have to be someone that can infiltrate this school," Bakugo pointed out, "Mr. Aizawa and the others would know about this right away. There's no way someone got through so easily."
"Chrysalis did. She got into U.A. Academy no problem," Midoriya told him, still feeling that chill go up and down his back.
"That's completely different, and you know it," Bakugo said back, "Whatever's going on, we need to stay focused on getting Alya through to Japan. Let's just get to the portal before you go running off. I don't want Mr. Aizawa to lecture me again about you running off on my watch."
Midoriya couldn't help but blush as Bakugo continued walking towards the portal room. They spotted it in the distance, and Midoriya caught up with him. Then Melissa came out of the room, and she spotted Midoriya with Bakugo. Her eyes locked onto Midoriya and ran over to him looking really worried about something.
"Deku! Thank goodness you're here," Melissa said, looking out of breath, "Someone tried to get hack the portal."
Midoriya and Bakugo's eyes widened in shock, not expecting her to say that. For some reason, Midoriya wasn't as surprised as he thought he'd be. He had a weird feeling that something wasn't right here. He didn't hesitate and followed Melissa inside of the portal room. She guided them over to the screen, showing them that it was working fine now.
"I put an alert on the portal just in case someone tried to hack it," Melissa told them, "After what you told me about the machine back in Paris, I figured that this would help things stay hidden. But it seems like someone might be trying to get through to U.A. and even to the portal. Whoever it is, they must know about the portal to some extent."
Midoriya and Bakugo shared a look like they needed to handle this right away.
"Melissa. Has anyone else been in here at all lately?" Midoriya asked her, "You didn't see anything or anyone suspicious, did you?"
Melissa took a minute to remember if there was anything weird or suspicious going on. Then her eyes lit up, and Midoriya got worried for a moment.
"I thought I saw someone running away from the support lab yesterday. I had just come back to grab some gear pieces when I spotted someone turn the corner and bolt out of the support lab. I didn't get a good look at them. They knew that they weren't suppose to be there however," Melissa explained to them, "I'm wondering if they went into the portal room as well or was maybe looking for it."
"This isn't good. We definitely can't use the portal now. Not after something like this just happened," Bakugo said to them.
"But Kacchan. Alya might be able to help us with this," Midoriya said back, "She can find out what's going on here. You and I both know that something is going on. We can't ignore that."
Midoriya stared at Bakugo very intensely, hoping that he would change his mind. Bakugo crossed his arms and tightened his grip. He let out a slight growl, annoyed that Midoriya was pushing him to do this.
"Ugh! Fine," Bakugo said back, "Just, do it before I change my mind."
Midoriya couldn't help but smile and turned to Melissa. She nodded and was determined to help them out. She turned on the portal and activated it with the push of a button. Midoriya noticed her hesitate for a moment, but then picked Paris as their destination to open the portal. Soon enough, it lit up and spread out to the middle of it. It formed into a perfect circle, creating an image of Paris underneath the Effiel Tower.
Midoriya smiled, seeing Alya as Rena Rouge standing there. She was packed up and ready to come over to Japan.
Before he knew it, she had stepped through the portal and entered U.A.
Another amazing chapter!
I really like where this is heading. I like Midoriya and Marinette's conversation and how things came together. I know it seems weird to have Alya coming over without Ember, but I'll explain things later. Right now, it's more about figuring out what's going on with Skylar and the portal. Whatever's going on in U.A., and Midoriya, Alya is here to help out. I also like Bakugo being the one to talk to Midoriya about his nightmare. Something's going with that as well, but we'll just have to wait and see!
What's going to happen next??
More to come soon!
