Chapter 5: A Moment of Grace
The next few days felt different. There was an unspoken shift between Percy and Artemis. They continued to spend time together, though more often than not, they found themselves in silence, comfortable with just being in each other's company. They hunted together, their movements synchronized in a way that was almost poetic. When Percy looked at Artemis, he saw her as something more than just a goddess. He saw someone who, despite her immortality, had lived a life marked by loss, by solitude, by a longing for something beyond her role in the world.
And as the days passed, the bond between them deepened, drawing them closer, even as both of them struggled to define what was happening between them.
One night, after another hunt in the woods, Percy and Artemis found themselves sitting by the campfire, the flames casting shadows across their faces. The stars above seemed closer than ever, as if the sky itself had bent down to listen.
"I never thought I'd find someone who understood," Artemis said softly, breaking the silence.
Percy looked at her, his heart beating a little faster. "I didn't either. But here we are."
She met his gaze, her silver eyes glinting in the firelight. "I think... I think I might be willing to try this. Whatever this is."
Percy smiled, feeling a wave of relief wash over him. "I'm glad you're willing to give it a shot."
As they sat there, the fire crackling between them, Percy realized that sometimes, it wasn't about understanding everything or having all the answers. Sometimes, it was about being willing to take a chance.
And in that moment, with Artemis sitting beside him, the stars shining overhead, Percy felt like he had finally found a place where he truly belonged—right next to her, under the silver moon.
