Chapter 2: The Truth

Sam stopped dead in his tracks on the way back to the apartment. He was preparing to get his thoughts together on how he was going to lie to the love of his life about why he suddenly had to leave. Little did he know that Jessica knew him enough to know when he was lying and how to get him to tell the truth. He really wanted to tell her what his family did, but it was never the right time. Jessica was the first person outside of his family he had allowed himself to get close to and he did not want to put her life in danger if he could help it.

As soon as he enters the apartment, he packs a duffle bag and slides a sharp knife inside for added protection. When Jessica comes into the room, he momentarily stops packing.

"Wait, you're taking off?" Jessica's voice came to him as he looked up at her before he began to finish packing. "Is this about your dad? Is he all right?"

"Yeah. You know just a little family drama."

Sensing he was being vague with her she tried another tactic to see if he would be more honest and give her more information.

"Your brother said he was on some kind of hunting trip." she said as she sat down on the bed.

"Oh yeah, he's just deer hunting up at the cabin. He's probably got Jim, Jack, and Jose along with him. I'm just going to bring him back."

Jessica stands up and calmly walks over to a nearby lamp, grabs it, and aims for his head but he ducks just in time.

"What the Hell Jess?!"

"I am sick and tired of you lying to me! I've dealt with it for months. Anytime I want to know about your family you shut me out by changing the subject most of the time!"

"I can't tell you!"

She meant what she had said so she pulled out the big guns as the saying goes and used what she was sure was a sore spot still. She didn't mean this next statement, but she had to make him believe it for the moment. She hated to do it but she wanted the truth.

"Maybe I should disown you like your father and Dean did. If you can't tell me the truth, I want you gone for good and not to come back ever again."

Sam's eyes got huge with grief as they filled with tears as he got that kicked puppy look on. Jessica began to say the same mantra to herself of do not apologize to him yet, do not give in several times.

"Get your facts straight! Dean did not disown me. My father did. You wouldn't do that."

Damn! He is right, I would not disown him Jessica thought to herself but kept her face stoic and without sympathy.

"Try me."

He looked up at the ceiling and wiped his eyes as if to keep the tears in since his father would always tell him to never show weakness before looking down at her again. "Will you keep an open mind if I tell you what my family does?"

"Of course I will Sam. Just tell me already!"

He began to tell her by starting with how his mom was not killed in a normal fire like he originally told her and then how he and his brothers were raised like soldiers due to their father's rampage to get revenge for what happened to their mother. The last thing he told her was what his brother just told him.

"Do you think I'm crazy?!" she asked him as she turned around and headed out of the apartment. "I'm supposed to be your girlfriend, and you are still lying to me. Last I learned is Men cannot get pregnant and I know for a fact monsters don't exist."

Sam followed her and gently took her arm and made her face him. "I'm telling the truth! Would I lie to you?"

She searched his face for answers and did not give him an answer but instead walked briskly up to Dean who stood waiting by the impala.

"Is what he told me true?" Jessica asked him when she got closer as she lowered her voice for the next two questions. "Do monsters exist? Are you...you know...pregnant?"

Dean's eyes looked past her and locked on to his brother who had finally caught up to Jessica. "You told her?!" I've told you countless times before that we do what we do and shut up about it!

"She told me she would disown me if I didn't tell her the truth so-"

Jessica interrupts what could have started an argument. "So, it is true?"

Dean and Sam looked at her and in unison responded, "Yes!"

She then turned around to Sam who had tears in his eyes and hugged him for a long time before letting him go.

"I'm sorry Sam. I didn't mean it."

He said nothing for a moment and just pulled her in for another hug kissing her forehead in a chaste kiss.

"I know and I'm sorry for not telling you sooner."

"Now that I know what's out there, I'm going with you."

"Jess-"

"I'm going!"

"I hate to break up you two lovebirds, but she can't come." Dean cut in as he went to get in the driver's seat.

"You try telling her no!"

"It wouldn't work now would it, bitch?"

"Jerk! Nope," Sam said popping the p.

Jessica climbed into the back seat and leaned forward into the front seats. "Is Sam still coming back for his interview Monday?"

Dean didn't answer her question but instead looked over at Sam who looked back at him in silent communication.

Sam turned around and answered for the both of them. "We're taking it one step at a time."

Author's Note: A guest review said that they didn't want Jessica to die so I hope what I do with Jessica's character are to all my reader's satisfaction. Reviews are appreciated.
