Chapter 5: Woman in White Part 2
Dean did indeed go with Jessica to the mall. One thing he got from the experience was she was indeed the one for his brother. She was perfect but she also had flaws. He was proud to have made the decision to give Sam and her his baby when it was born.
When they left the store Dean called Sam and told him they were done as he held out a fake I.D to her. He made it for her after taking several pictures to see which one worked best for an I.D.
She squealed and hugged him tight. "Thank you! Are you sure you want my help on this case?"
"You became involved with our line of work the moment you decided to join us on the road."
That was a yes in a sense and she would except it and not let them down. Sam pulled up and they got in. Dean asked Sam for the keys, and they all settled in their respective seats. Jessica got in the back with Dean in the driver's seat and Sam in the passenger seat.
There is a comfortable silence that follows except for Sam being on the phone as they pass by a sign that says Jericho 7. Sam hangs up the phone with a quick thank you to the other person on the line before turning around to Dean.
"Are you sure you want to do this? I mean Jessica and I can handle this one if you cannot."
"Look, just because I am pregnant does not mean I still cannot do my job. If you do not want me on this, tell me but I am telling you I can do it."
"He is right Sam," said Jessica who looked between them gauging their reactions. "If I were capable of being pregnant, would you sideline me?"
Dean looked over at his brother for a brief second before turning his eyes to the road ahead. "She has a point. Would you?"
"That is different, and you know it. You are a female, and he is male. Males are not supposed to carry babies."
"That is great. Great," he said with a crack in his voice. "You're implying you would sideline me but not her-"
"That's not what I said."
"You implied it, but I am going to pretend you did not and finish this case to prove to you I can. What do we got?"
"Okay," he responded slowly. "All right. So, there's no one matching Dad at the hospital or morgue. So that's something, I guess."
Dean just glances at his brother before turning toward the road ahead again. The bridge ahead of them that they finally come across has several police officers and about two police cars.
"Check it out."
Sam and Jessica lean forward to get a closer look as Dean pulls over and kills the engine. He goes into the glove compartment and pulls out a box full of ID cards some of which include those of his and his father's faces with FBI or DEA visible on some of them. He hands Sam his own and grabs one of his own as well.
Sam stares at him in shock and Dean just grins back. How long ago had Dean made him one? He might have planned this working together thing ahead of time. He said nothing of his thoughts though but instead asked if Jessica had one. Jessica showed him hers in response.
"Let's go," Dean said as he got out of the car and his brother and Jessica follow him to the bridge.
Dean sees the blood at the crime scene and gags. He goes to the nearest trashcan and throws up whatever is left in his stomach. Sam and Jessica rushed over to him, and she rubs his back while Sam asked him if he were all right.
"Just peachy," he responded sarcastically as he put a thumbs up.
He then wipes his mouth and walked over to the lead deputy whose name was Jaffe with Sam and Jessica following behind.
"You fella's had another one like this just last month, didn't you?"
Jaffe looks up when Dean starts to talk and straightens from his position of leaning over the railing of the bridge to talk to him. He had been talking to the men in wetsuits who was poking along the river when the three showed up as if they belong there.
"And who are you?" he asked, and they flashed their .
"Federal Marshals."
"You three are a little young for marshals, aren't you?" he asked, eyes fixed on Jessica for a lengthy period then the three of them in unison.
Dean laughed. "Thanks, that's awfully kind of you. You did have another one just like this correct?"
He nodded as he spoke. "Yeah, that's right. About a mile up the road. There've been others before that."
Jessica who had been silent the entire time spoke up. "What do you mean by others?"
"There were similar cases to this one with them being all men that disappeared," he responded surveying the scene around himself.
"So, this victim, you knew him?" Sam asks as he jumps into the conversation.
Jaffe nods. "Town like this, everybody knows everybody."
Despite of the blood at the scene, Dean circles the car before speaking. "Any connections between the victims, besides that they're all men?"
"No. Not so far as we can tell."
So, what's the theory?" Sam asked as he joined Jessica and his brother after doing his own surveillance of the scene.
"Honestly, we don't know. Serial murder? Kidnapping ring?"
"Well, that is the exactly the kind of crack police work I'd expect out of you guys."
Sam and Jessica both stomped on his feet making him wince.
"Thank you for your time," Sam said trying to remain professional but failing after what he just did.
As they were headed back to the Impala, Dean smacked Sam on the back of the head.
"Hey! No hitting my man!" Jessica said smacking Dean on the back of his head as well.
"Ow! What was that for?" Sam asked, rubbing the back of his head.
Dean, who was rubbing his own head responded while looking over at Jessica, "Why'd you two have to step on my feet?"
"Why do you have to talk to the police like that?"
"That was uncalled for," said Jessica. "You could've kept that comment to yourself."
Dean forced them to stop walking by walking in front of them backwards. "Guys, come on. They don't really know what's going on. We're all alone on this. I mean, if we're going to find Dad, we've got to get to the bottom of this thing ourselves."
Sam clears his throat, and Dean looks over his shoulder before walking normally. Sherriff Pierce along with two FBI agents are walking past.
"Can I help you three?"
Dean nods at each of them. "No, sir, we were just leaving. Agent Mulder, Agent Scully, and Agent Ramirez."
They head past the sheriff and the two FBI agents who all turn to watch them go as they head back to the car.
"Now what?" Jessica asked.
"Sam and you will do research at the local library while I interview the girlfriend whose boyfriend went missing. I heard she is putting up posters of him."
