What Fairy Girls Want

Chapter 23: when I'm with you (it's the bomb)

"Whew! I'm stuffed," Bisca said happily, leaning back in her seat and patting her tummy. "Erza was right on the money about this place. Wasn't she, Alzack?" Bisca smiled widely.

Alzack nodded and finished his wine. "Another stellar date is in the bag," he said over the general chatter of this fine downtown restaurant. It was just small talk, but ever since he lost and then miraculously found the engagement ring hiding under his dresser, he was afraid to say anything more than small talk. Well, Bisca seemed okay with it -

"Has something been bothering you, sweetie?" Bisca asked after she motioned to the waiter for the check. "It feels like you've been avoiding something."

She didn't seem okay with it. Well, crud.

Alzack stalled for time. "I'm just busy with class, y'know. Calculus is kicking my ass -"

"You can't fool me, cowboy," Bisca teased him, pointing with her fork. "You dropped that calculus class after you and Jellal agreed that calculus is for virgin nerds."

And Alzack was certainly neither!

"It's just... uh..." Alzack felt himself go red in the face, scrunching his face up as he raced for a convenient fib. What would Laxus do in this situation? Naw, he was too cool to end up like this. What would Gray do? Distract Juvia with his abs, but Bisca had gotten her fill of man-meat last night. What would Natsu do? Say something unbelievably stupid but hilarious and feel like a champ the whole time -

"I almost proposed to you," Alzack blurted out. He clapped his hands over his mouth.

"O-oh my..." Bisca did the same, but more gently, and with an adoring look in her gorgeous brown eyes. "Alzack, honey, you and I need to have a serious talk about this."

Now waist-deep in the situation, Alzack nodded and declared, "We sure do."

The check was paid, the restaurant exited, and then the two of them took a little walk in a nearby park as the evening sun threw reddish rays across Magnolia.

"So... you're ready to pop the question?" Bisca asked, going pink in the face. Her eyes eagerly bored into Alzack's, hungry for the answer.

"I was drunk," Alzack said quickly.

Bisca snorted with laughter. "I don't know whether to laugh, scold you, or ask why it takes inebriation to you to that point. What gives, lover boy? Did you drink to calm your nerves? Or did the scary thought of spending an eternity with me make you reach for the Jack Daniels?"

"Whoa, whoa. I don't drink so I can tolerate you!" Alzack cried, motioning frantically. "That's just a cliche on soap operas! And sometimes in real life," he added reluctantly, thinking about his unfortunate aunt and uncle.

"I didn't think so," Bisca said loftily. "Did the drinking and proposal plan have any connection?"

"It's like... well..." Alzack fought for the words. "I've had this bouncing around in my mind for at least a month now. And getting plastered makes me totally reckless. I'll do anything."

Bisca smiled sympathetically. "The hijacked golf cart that crashed an Organic Chemistry 201 class is all the evidence we need of that."

"What a joyride that was," Alzack groaned. "Expulsion-worthy legendary moments aside, I'm serious that I want to marry you someday, Bisca. I mean it. You are the woman for me. There can be no other!" He raised a fist to eye level, his heart thudding.

"You sure know how to make a girl feel special, Alzack," Bisca said fondly, smiling from ear to ear. "That's why I love you so much. But no hurry on that ring. We haven't even graduated yet."

"Yeah, that's... that's true."

Bisca leaned closer and gasped. "You're disappointed!"

"What?! I..." Alzack felt his hot face, wondering how he had given it away. He hadn't even fully realized these feelings for himself. What was going on here?!

"You don't need a drop of booze to show your true feelings for me," Bisca told him gently. "Alzack, my love, we've been dating for almost three years now, and things have never been better. We're ready to tackle this big question together as a team."

"That question being?"

Bisca took hold of her boyfriend's shoulders. "When we are ready to tie the knot. Because I don't think it's a question of if. Do you?"

Alzack looked into his darling girlfriend's eyes for a split second and found the answer in them. "When is the question, baby." He grinned.

"Exactly!" Bisca giggled and went a shade redder. "Oh my gosh, this is so exciting! Are we this close to getting engaged?"

"Engaged to get engaged," Alzack said, his confident grin widening. "Deal?"

"You got yourself a deal, buster! Whew!" Bisca fanned her warm face. "I think we're ready for this, Alzack. I seriously do. Even if we should wait until after we graduate, this feels so right. Right?"

"Right."

"So..." Bisca made a crafty face. "We just need one more something to get ourselves ready."

Alzack's heart leaped in excitement. "What kind of something?"

Bisca took hold of Alzack's face and kissed him, nice and slow. "For tonight, let's just get cozy somewhere, and I'll show you what it feels like to be engaged to be engaged. Then... I'll think of the perfect plan. I have one idea already, but it's a pretty gutsy one..."

"You've got me on the edge of my seat, babe." Alzack felt himself stiffening in the pants. "Let's start with tonight's plan, then take it from there. My place."

Bisca traced a finger down Alzack's chest. "Deal."

o*o*o*o*

"Natsu, you look... well... oh my word."

Lucy Heartilia could only blush and clap her hands to her cheeks as she beheld her beau dressed to the nines on the sidewalk outside his apartment that evening. Natsu grinned and put on hand into his pockets. "Am I ready to rock, or what?" he said with a cocky grin.

"If that's how you clean up for a fancy evening, we should attend galas all the time!" Lucy joked.

"I have you to thank," Natsu said. "You're the one who picked out these threads for me back in Crocus, remember?"

"Yes, and I wish the other girls could see this," Lucy said happily. "Natsu, girls love a guy who can polish his look and ooze sophistication, like you did at the premiere of Midnight Ball Passion. In fact..."

She got her phone out of her shiny black purse and held it up.

"Watcha doin'?" Natsu asked.

"Proving to my friends that my man can dress like a king. Hold still." Lucy snapped a picture, then smiled. "That'll shut those snarky girls up in my journalism classes!"

"And you look stunning, by the way," Natsu added. He looked mighty fine in his black dress pants/shoes combo, red dress shirt, and tuxedo vest, but Lucy was on a whole different level. She wore a vivid red corset dress with thick shoulder straps and a satin mini-dress that reached her knees, along with black flats and a silver bracelet on her right wrist. She also wore a modest silver necklace to match the bracelet, and to round out the look, Lucy had her silky blonde hair in an elegant bun.

Lucy went pink at the compliment. "Why, thank you, Natsu. I love how we match. Red is the color of our passion!"

"After this gala shindig, I oughta show you how passionate I can really be with my queen," Natsu added with a hungry smile. "This is gonna be the best night of your life, Lucy, and I'll help you finish it with a bang!"

"Do you have any condoms to back up that sweet talk?"

Natsu patted his right pants pocket. "Jacked up and good to go."

Lucy smiled. "You naughty boy. But until then, this evening is about my future. It's not enough for me to study journalism. I need to live it, Natsu. This gala is how I'll get my foot in the door and dive right into the world of media. It's my destiny."

She had a fire in her eyes as she held up a fist, looking up as though posing for an epic photo. Natsu raised his fist the same way. "Yeah! Show 'em what you're made of!"

"I plan to," Lucy said warmly. "But most of all, I'd like them to show me what they're made of. I need role models and connections in my intended field. My only lead so far is Mirajane's aunt, who helped me get invited to this event. I must thank her right away when I meet her."

"Cool."

Lucy extended a hand. "Now, shall we depart, dear Natsu?"

Natsu cracked another excited smile as he took his girlfriend's hand. "It's time to par-tay!"

"It's a classy gala, my good sir."

"Anything's a party if you have the right spirit, Lucy. It's the MCC way."

"Yes, I've gotten that impression for myself..."

o*o*o*o*

"So, is this kinda like a meet-and-greet?" Natsu wondered as he and his date climbed out of their cab at the Magnolia Convention Center and headed to the front doors.

"Yes, there's plenty of networking to be done," Lucy said brightly. "This particular event is a fundraiser for local charities, but for me, it's also a chance to meet everyone! I can't wait."

Natsu pushed open the center's front doors and admitted his date. "I'll be your wingman."

Lucy giggled. "You big silly. It's not like dating. But..." She blushed. "Thanks for supporting me, Natsu. I might need the help."

Natsu heard the nervous tone in Lucy's voice and doubled his resolve to help her out.

And this place was big. Already, in the convention center's well-lit halls, Natsu spotted plenty of staff members and attendees wandering around, and the whole place felt like a maze. Whew, now Natsu was getting butterflies in his stomach, too! This was nothing like barging into one of Cana's house parties with a beer in each hand and a pocket of condoms he needed to use up before they expired.

"Here we are. Take my hand," Lucy said, her voice tight and urgent as she bumped Natsu's hand with hers. A pair of fancy doors stood before them. "That's the main room. We have to make a good first impression."

"R-right." Natsu clasped his girlfriend's slightly sweaty hand in his, swallowed, and threw open the doors.

This was no dorm party! Over two hundred well-dressed men and women were either seated at the round dinner tables, schmoozing in the open spaces with martinis in hand, or writing something on a table loaded with goodies. What was even going on here?

"Good evening, young sir and lady," an older fellow said, gesturing at them with his half-full drinking glass. "The brandy here is most excellent. Top of the line."

Lucy went pink and managed to squeak out "Hrrrgrafrbl!" before she yanked on Natsu's hand and whisked him away! Whoa! Natsu almost knocked over a server who had four drinks on his silver tray.

"You okay, Lucy?" Natsu asked. "Did you know that old geezer?"

"He's not a geezer," Lucy corrected him. She fanned herself. "I just... I just froze, Natsu! I'm already acting like I don't belong here."

"What? C'mon. This is your kinda place," Natsu told her. "Didn't you grow up rich? And this is a place for mass media folks."

"I... this was a mistake," Lucy sputtered, rapidly looking around like a cornered animal. "Natsu, I ran away from home because I couldn't stand to live in the gilded cage of my father's wealth! I don't belong in the world of the rich and powerful anymore. And I'm not even in the media. I just contribute to some college's newspaper and no one takes it seriously..." She held her hands over her mouth.

Natsu opened his mouth to protest all those points when he remembered what Mirajane and Levy had both told him about being a good boyfriend. This isn't about arguing over details! It was about...

Natsu gently took hold of Lucy's hands and lowered them, looking right into her rich brown eyes. "It's okay. Anyone would feel overwhelmed and panic in a place like this. It suddenly feels so real for you, doesn't it?"

Lucy nodded timidly.

"Babe, I'd be scared stiff if I went to a gala for bodybuilders and gym coaches. And everyone at college salutes me as the king of gym rats."

"Gym rats?"

"Yeah. People who are always at the gym, getting those gains, going all in." Natsu smiled. "It's perfectly normal to be nervous, Lucy. It just shows how important this is to you. I fell in love with a girl with amazing passion."

Lucy giggled. "I suppose you did!"

"For now, we're just testing the waters, right?" Natsu added. "Don't be afraid to make a few mistakes, Lucy. Just show me how brave you are and pursue what you really want. This is your time."

"Natsu... that was exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you," Lucy said, her eyes glimmering. She swallowed. "All right! Lucy Heartfilia is here. Let's schmooze!"

With a few drinks, of course. Good thing they were free!

"H-hi. I mean, good evening," Lucy said, shaking hands with a middle-aged man with a thin mustache and a deep red blazer. "I'm Lucy Heartfilia. I study journalism at Magnolia City College."

"Good evening, miss Heartfilia," the man said. "I'm a correspondent on Magnolia News Daily. Charmed to meet you."

"Thank you, sir! I... I have to go," Lucy said awkwardly, and broke away from him.

"I didn't even get his name," Lucy realized, wiping her brow. "And I didn't know what else to tell him."

"You got this," Natsu reassured her. "Hey, let's try her..." He pointed.

Lucy nodded and met a middle-aged lady who turned out to be a producer at Downtown News, and when asked about herself, Lucy nervously stammered out that she got an A on her latest Mass Communication 201 exam, which the lady didn't find terribly interesting. Still, Natsu saw a look of determination in Lucy's eyes, and gladly tagged along as Lucy kept trying.

"M-my last article got me an A in my journalism class," Lucy said, toying with the hem of her red gown, staring down at her feet. "My professor said he was proud of me."

"Do tell? Well, keep up with your studies, and you might land a decent reporter position," the older gentleman said. "Now, I must be going..." He haughtily turned and stalked off.

On and on it went, until Lucy hung her head in resignation. "I don't think anyone will take us seriously, Natsu. They expect to meet older people who are already in the industry. And I haven't seen Mirajane's aunt yet, either."

"Well, they should take you more seriously," Natsu said, folding his arms. "You're the bestest journalist and girlfriend a guy could ask for! You rock, Lucy."

"Thank you for the vote of confidence," Lucy said with a lukewarm smile. "Look, I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm out of my league here, Natsu. It's just a fact. But at least this helped me get over my fear of meeting people in the industry!"

"You got nothin' to fear from these snobs," Natsu declared. "They should fear you!"

"Oh, my."

"I mean it! I get it, we're just college kids who aren't industry bigwigs yet," Natsu pressed on, frantically making it up as he went. "But they're undestimating our passion, Lucy. Whatever you want, you'll grab it like that, and squeeze for all it's worth!" He mimed it with a hand. Then realized what that looked like.

"Such a crude boy," a passing lady said as Natsu went bright red. Man, he just had to jack this up for his girlfriend! Way to go, bozo!

"Hey!" Natsu cried out on impulse. "I'm just a clod, but my girlfriend is for real. It took her a lot of courage just to show up here."

The lady stopped and turned. "Is that so?"

"Yes." Lucy stepped forward, carrying herself with all the regal confidence of a true queen. "I'm Lucy Heartfilia, and my boyfriend was kind enough to escort me here and support me while I meet some new faces in the industry. I'm studying journalism so I can connect with people and inform everyone of what's happening in this world we share. I may be just a college student for now, but I know this is my future. I belong here."

She stood there, defiant hands on her hips, that old fire back in her eyes.

The lady looked from Natsu to Lucy, then smiled. "I'm sorry I misjudged you two. Just keep your phrasing clean, if you please?"

"Yeah-huh!" Natsu said with a nod, trading crudeness for sheer dumbassery. Well, that could at least make Lucy look good by comparison!

"MCC, I presume?" the lady asked, eyeing Lucy up and down. "Their journalism department?"

"The very same," Lucy confirmed.

"And you came here to network? Get your feet wet?"

"I did. Pleased to meet you."

The lady's smile widened. "The feeling is mutual, miss Heartfilia. Let me tell you a little about the biz..."

Natsu hung back like the extra he was, hands in his pockets as he watched Lucy successfully schmooze for the first time. Hooray! And it went even better when the lady's husband caught up to them, and he was totally cool. Then the lady introduced Lucy to one of her own bosses from the local downtown newspaper, and they gabbed happily until Lucy accepted a few business cards and rejoined her waiting boyfriend.

"I did it! Look!" Lucy squealed, presenting the business cards, all smiles. "I think I just got my foot in the door!"

"I'm so proud of you, babe," Natsu said warmly, deciding against joking about the time he got his foot in the door just as Elfman slammed it shut, resulting in 100 apologies and a free dessert as compensation.

From there, Lucy had an easy time gliding through the crowd, schmoozing like a pro and even name-dropping Mirajane's aunt's name to wow the bigwigs. She and Natsu even entered evening's silent auction just for fun (that was the written event), bidding a few Jewels each on the goodies there, just to be a part of something. By the evening's end, Lucy was positively buzzing with giddiness (and a few drinks), and she couldn't keep her hands off her man.

"This is the best evening of my life," Lucy said a little woozily as she half-dragged Natsu out of the main room and back toward the exit. "I feel like a fucking princess, Natsu. Come on, tell me how great I am."

"You kick ass, Lucy. I'm just glad I was here to see it."

"Yeah. But you ain't seen half of it yet." Lucy hiccuped and marched across the sidewalk with Natsu, headed for the street corner just as the street lights started coming on. She waved her hand to hail a taxi. "Let me take you back to my place, and if Cana or Bisca are there, I'm kicking those bitches out! It's time for a real party. Just you and me, buster! Whoo!"

Lucy's electric energy sustained her all the way back to the apartment and right into her bedroom, where she got on her hands knees on the bed, her formal gown's skirt lifted up to reveal the scandalous, lacy black panties she wore. Natsu could see the bulge of Lucy's lady parts as Lucy panted with excitement, her face flushed.

Lucy didn't say a word as Natsu got his pants off and positioned himself behind her, taking hold of her curvy hips and pressing his manhood's tip against her wet flesh. No words were needed. Natsu and Lucy simply lost themselves in the perfect end to a perfect evening, feeling like they were on top of the world as the bed violently rocked and creaked with the force of their lovemaking.

College is the best four years of your life, after all. By now, Natsu concluded, Lucy knew that better than anyone.

"Natsu," Lucy panted after their fuckathon was finally done, 70 minutes and four condoms later. "I wanted to tell you what a sweet, caring, and just plain wonderful boyfriend you've become. You make me feel like all my dreams will come true."

"Nothin' to it, babe," Natsu said with a casual grin as he took Lucy's hand in his. He had done a lot for her, no doubt about it, and it was his pleasure. But then again...

When was he going to be a proper wingman for himself?
