The Minecraft Story: The Beginning: Chapter 5

The town of Morzen erupted in screams. Marcus and Franz managed to find a home closer to the edge of the village. They shot awake and confused at what was happening. Then the horn sounded.

BROOOOOOOOOOOM! BROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

It was the night watch signaling an attack. Marcus and Franz jumped from their beds. The family of home lay on the floor in the main room, trembling. It was a couple and their child.

"Holy knight, what's happening?" The mother asked, utter fear escaped her voice.

"We're under attack," Franz said bluntly as he donned his armor.

"Stay inside, hide yourselves, don't come out until we give the all clear," Marcus said to the terrified family.

As Marcus scrambled to put on his armor, he felt himself shaking. He didn't understand it. Why am I shaking? He thought. I spent five years training for this. You are the protector of this family and everyone in the village. The shaking continued. You need to stop, please. I shouldn't be feeling like this. I am a Miter Knight; the enemy should be more scared of us. His stomach began to churn. Oh god, I feel like I'm about to throw up. I can't, not in front of them. Be strong, carry the light of Notch, be bra-

"Marcus, are you finished putting on your armor?" Franz yelled from the door.

Marcus had zoned off and he had slowed putting on his armor. What am I doing? He thought. Get control of yourself!

"I'm on my way!" Marcus replied, "Just go, I'll meet you outside!" Franz ran out the door and Marcus finished donning the rest of his armor and unsheathed his sword. He ran to the door and stopped right in front of it. He stared down at his sword and in his head, he recited the pledge. With this sword and with my life, I carry the light of Notch and the will of the Pope. For the words of Notch, I fight, for the safety of the holy land, I fight, for the lives of the believers, I fight! I can do this! He gave out a cry as he swung the door open.

It was chaos. Hordes of people were running towards the center screaming. Many of the townsfolk were covered in blood. Some had arrows protruding out of them. Something puzzled Marcus, some of the people were screaming, "The demons have returned!" He'd never heard heretics referred to as demons before, but there's a first for everything.

He ran in the direction they were coming from. As he ran, he bumped into a lot of people and the look in their eyes sent chills down his spine. What could these heretics have done in such a short time? He thought. And come to think of it, how did they get here? He continued to run. I know this village isn't too far from the southern border, but there's no way the heretics could've snuck this far into our territory without encountering any of the other legions. We should've heard something by now from a messenger. It didn't matter now. He had to focus on killing the enemy. How they got here was irrelevant, he had a job to do. Marcus finally made it near the entrance to the village and the sight made him stop in his tracks.

The knights were completely disorganized as the carrier slaves appeared to be eating villagers and fallen knights. What the hell? Is this a slave riot? He thought. A loud explosion to his left sent several knights flying through the air above him. Shit, where did they get explosives?

Marcus shook off his fear and ran towards a slave who was devouring a villager. The slave looked up just as his sword sliced off the top of his head and the slave fell atop the villager.

Marcus moved the slave off and inspected the villager. She was a young woman. He tried to check for a pulse, but the woman's neck had been almost completely chewed through. There wasn't much left to check for a pulse. She couldn't have survived the attack. He looked over at the fallen slave with anger. He knew the heretics were sick and deranged, but he never thought they'd eat an innocent woman.

Marcus stabbed the slave's body out of anger, but then he noticed something. There was something off about the slave's complexion. They're skin appeared to be green. What the hell is going on? He thought.

Suddenly, a large mass landed on his back. Something big had landed on top of him and was attempting to bite through his helmet. Marcus thrashed around, desperately trying to get this thing off his back. The thing was slowly lifting up his helmet and soon it would be able to bite down on his neck, just like the woman. He tried to stab his sword behind him. He managed to hit it, but it still wouldn't come off. Is this how I die? He thought. Am I going to die in my first battle?

As Marcus was about to give up, the thing on his back went stiff, and was abruptly thrown off of him. He turned around to see Franz, his sword was drenched in what appeared to be green blood.

"Thank you brother," Marcus said.

"Always watch your back in combat," Franz scolded him.

"You're right, I'm sorry. Why was that slave trying to bite me?" Marcus asked

"That wasn't a slave brother," Franz answered, "Take a look." Franz pointed to the ground next to them. Finally, Marcus saw it. It was a giant spider; green blood pooled around it and had begun to soak into the dirt. Marcus finally looked around and saw everything. Creepers were charging towards groups of knights. Skeletons were shooting at fleeing villagers. Spiders were leaping onto people and biting into them.

Marcus heard a groan behind him and suddenly a hand grabbed onto his shoulder. He turned around and swung his sword into his attacker. The blade collided with the arm of the woman that was previously lying dead on the ground. The woman paid no mind to the sword lodged in her arm and she leapt forward, gnashing her teeth. Her skin had turned green, just like the dead slave. Marcus placed his hand on the woman's chest, stopping her from biting him. A sword flew past the side Marcus's face and plunged into the woman's forehead. Blood squirted on his face. The sword was retracted, and the woman fell to the ground. Franz had saved him again.

The realization of their situation finally set in. The demons have returned, the monsters have returned, Herobrine has returned.
