Chapter 1 New Job
Note: Here's my new fanfic! It took me a while to post it, but here it is! I just wanted to finish the series I was watching. Last thing, this fic is based on a fan animation. The Amazing World of Gumball Anime version.
Chapter 1 New Job
Elmore, a relatively large town. With all kinds of people, from ordinary people to half-humans, people with powers, monsters, witches and all kinds of things you can imagine.
In this town there is a school. Elmore Junior High, where its pupils meet. With lots of people talking to each other. In the corridors, there's a cheerleading squad, a group of delinquents, a girl with blonde hair wearing a sleeveless orange shirt and a thick collar around her neck, who's picking up a manga from her locker and laughing a little. A red-haired, bearded man, slightly overweight, who was mopping the school floor. A boy with colorful hair and wearing a headband who is trying to sing a girl made of paper. A girl wearing a dinosaur costume who growls at everyone who comes near her and scares most of them. A principal with long hair and a huge moustache who is in his classroom going through some forms, with an older woman (How old is she? Nobody knows...) in the same room going through some papers next to him, apparently some tests for the school year.
In a classroom some students are leaving, a small boy who looks like a balloon, a girl with green skin and spiky hair leaves next to the boy. Then a small robot (which doesn't look more than a meter long.) Then the last person leaves, a Japanese girl who seems to have hair as white as the clouds. With everyone having left the room, there are only two boys left inside.
"Gumball, hey! Gumball!" A masculine but rather thin voice speaks to the boy who is sitting at his desk in his sleep.
"Hmmm..." The boy groans with sleep, opening his eyes slightly, he sees the figure of a dark-skinned, green-eyed boy, wearing a fish-themed orange jacket, green pants and boots.
"You overslept, did you play all night again?" The boy wearing orange and green clothes asks the sleeping boy.
"What if I have?..." The boy gets up from his chair and stretches. It is now possible to see what he looks like. With blue hair, cat ears on his head, red eyes, three lines on his cheeks (which resemble Naruto's.) The boy wears a beige sweater, gray pants and black shoes.
"Let's go home soon!" The boy in the orange clothes says excitedly. "Mom said she wanted to talk to us."
"Right, right..." The cat boy gets up and grabs his backpack. And the two of them leave the classroom and start walking through the school corridors.
"Hey, Gumball! What do you think Mom's going to tell us?" The boy in the orange and green clothes asks.
"Look, Darwin. I even suspect what she's going to say..." Gumball says in a tired tone of voice.
The two boys continue walking down the corridors until they come across a girl near their lockers looking at them strangely.
"Hi, guys!" The blonde girl wearing a kind of sleeveless shirt with (What looks like an ice cream cone.) Greets the two boys.
"Oh, hi Sarah! Do you need anything?" Darwin asks the girl.
"No. Actually, I was just wondering if you were free this afternoon?" Sarah asks with a slight animation.
"Actually, we are." Gumball says abruptly as he closes his locker. "And I already don't like what's coming..."
"Oh, all right then." Sarah says slightly sadly. "But if you have time, please talk to me!" Sarah says goodbye to the boys.
"Man, did you have to talk like that?" Darwin asks, slightly annoyed.
"Let's go..." Gumball says in a tired tone of voice. The two boys start walking down the corridors.
"Hey, have you heard about these rumors of these strange monsters?" The Japanese girl asks the cheerleader and the girl with the spiky green hair.
"I've heard some rumors and gossip, but this is more like a crazy person wearing a costume." The girl with the spiky green hair crosses her arms in irritation.
"But what if it's true?" The cheerleader asks while holding some books in her hands.
"Please, Penny! You're not really going to believe that?" The Japanese girl says in a comical tone.
"Yeah, but..." Penny thinks about it.
Gumball and Darwin watched and listened to the conversation from a considerable distance. They both look at each other and giggle slightly.
"Ouch, ouch! Monsters. Brrr!" Gumball says, not taking much notice.
"Surely it's someone who got lost in the year, it's not Halloween yet." Darwin laughs a little.
"É... that's it..." Gumball turns away from the subject, watching Penny talk to the other girls.
"Hey, why don't you go talk to her later?" Darwin asks bluntly.
"O-What!? No, no. We hardly know each other!" Gumball says nervously.
"But you've known each other since you were five years old, and now you're fifteen." Darwin says, slightly confused.
"Then that's still not long enough." Gumball says, trying to deflect the subject. "let's go home, or we might miss the bus!"
The two boys quickly make their way out of the corridors and out of the school. They walk down the street to the bus stop. The two boys sit down on a bench and wait for the bus to arrive together with other students.
"Have you heard about monsters in the city?" A boy with an annoying voice and wearing a banana-print shirt speaks to the others.
"I've only seen a few posts on Integram about it, but I don't know if it's true." A blond boy with a flower on his head and wearing a green T-shirt
"They're probably Undead who came out of their graves to disturb our lives!" A ghost girl speaks frighteningly.
"Stop it, Carrie!" Penny says, slightly frightened.
"It's just a joke!" The girl with the spiky green hair says.
"Yeah, guys, I think I'd better stop!" A boy made of clay speaks slightly nervously.
"Besides. There's no such thing as the undead." A robot boy with a large head, a slightly thin body and only one eye speaks up.
"Of course... it's not like we have a ghost right next door." Gumball says in a sarcastic tone.
All the students continue talking for a few more minutes, until the school bus arrives. All the students get on the bus and sit in their seats with their peers.
Gumball sits in the seat next to the window, watching the bus go through the streets, past the houses, stores, businesses and everything that can be seen. Little by little, the bus stops and the students get off, heading back to their homes. After a while the bus finally stops in front of the Wattersons', with Gumball and Darwin getting off the bus and walking towards their house.
"Finally!..." Darwin stretches and walks to the door of his house.
"It's... finally..." Gumball says in a tired tone.
"Tell me, why are you like this?" Darwin asks, walking up to the door and opening it.
"You know..." Gumball enters the house and sees his mother, Nicole Watterson, sitting on the sofa.
The two of them walk through the living room to the stairs, but a serious voice catches their attention.
"Gumball Watterson, come here." Nicole speaks in a serious tone. A woman with blue hair, cat ears, red eyes, wearing a white shirt with a three-colored brooch (red, yellow and green.) She also wears a black skirt that goes down to her knees, and black shoes.
Gumball hesitantly walks over to his mother and stands in front of her. Nicole picks up some papers and while looking at her son.
"You've been sleeping in class, haven't you?" Nicole looks at Gumball with a serious look.
"Hmm..." Gumball looks away, trying his best not to look his mother in the eye.
"And you've been playing on your PC until late at night... haven't you?" Nicole says in a cold tone as she looks at her son.
"Yeah, I know... it's just that I was training for a tournament with Topias and..." Gumball looks at his mother and sees her gaze narrow with apology.
"Hmm..." Nicole murmurs. She settles down on the sofa, crossing her arms and legs as she stares at Gumball. "Gumball, you need to take more responsibility..."
"Please don't tell me what I think you're going to tell me..." mumbles Gumball, asking his mother not to tell him what she thinks he's going to say.
"You need to get a job." Nicole blurts out.
"NOOOO!" Gumball falls to his knees on the floor, lamenting the fate of his life from now on.
"Come on, cut the drama." Nicole says, relaxing a little.
"As if I could, just look at you every time you come home." Gumball lowers his head mournfully, while Nicole gets slightly irritated remembering her pitiful job.
"Gumball, Gumball." A man with pink hair, rabbit ears and blue eyes. With a slightly overweight body, he enters the room clucking his tongue. "Gumball, you need to take more responsibility."
"Huf... as if you had any morals to talk about responsibilities." A girl about ten years old, with pink hair and bunny ears, red eyes and wearing some kind of long orange dress and white boots.
"Hey!" The man says, slightly offended.
"Yeah, Dad, you hardly ever work... and when you do..." Gumball said, remembering how the city would collapse if he worked. "Forget it, forget it!"
"Pow, man." Darwin says, approaching Gumball and putting his arm around his shoulder. "Look on the bright side, you'll have money."
"Yeah... like that's going to help." Gumball says without much emotion.
"Ahhh... enough of that!" Nicole said, getting up from the sofa and walking over to Gumball. "Here." Nicole hands Gumball a piece of paper.
"What's this?" Gumball asks, taking the paper.
"It's a resume. You're going to fill it out and go for the interview. Good thing tomorrow's Sunday." Nicole sighs and goes into the kitchen to get a drink of water.
"Is this really serious?" Gumball asks, still moping.
"It's for the best." The girl with pink hair and bunny ears speaks. Sitting down on the sofa, she turns on the TV.
"Where are you going to work, anyway?" Darwin asks looking at the blank CV.
"Brrr..." Gumball sighs, accepting his new life. "Let's see..." Gumball reads through the CV trying to find the company he's going to intern for. "It's at a company called... B.O.A.R.D?"
"Board? Hmmm..." The white-haired man begins to think while drooling over some kind of food.
"Ricardo, that's not food!" Nicole shouts from the kitchen for everyone to hear.
"Hmm... and what is this B.O.A.R.D.?" Darwin asks confused.
"B.O.A.R.D (Board of Archaeological Research) is an archaeological research and chemical industry company. That's it in a nutshell, of course." The girl with pink hair and bunny ears speaks up.
"Oh, thanks! Anais!" Darwin thanks his sister.
"Ahhh..." Gumball shrugs and walks to his room. "I'm going to my room, bye!"
Everyone watches the boy walk up the stairs, irritated.
"He looks pretty angry." Darwin says a little sadly.
"I'm sure he'll be fired on the first day." Anais says, not really caring.
"Anais, you should support your brother." Ricardo says, sitting down on the sofa with a bowl of snacks.
"I still don't know..." Nicole leaves the kitchen and goes into the living room, one hand on her chin in thought.
"What is it, Mom?" Darwin asks.
"It's just that I already wanted Gumball to get a job, but when B.O.A.R.D contacted the Rainbow Factory (where Nicole works.) They contacted me to give an internship recommendation."
"And you recommended Gumball straight away?" Anais asks slightly tiredly.
"No. I suggested someone else, but they insisted that they needed someone young for the job." Nicole explains. "I even thought of someone else, but Gumball was the only person I could really think of..."
"Oh, don't worry!" Ricardo says, munching on a snack. "I'm sure Gumball will do well in the job. He's dedicated and hard-working."
"Ehhh..." Nicole, Anais and Darwin speak, doubting Ricardo's words.
(Night. 11:30pm)
"Hmm..." Gumball looks up thoughtfully from his bed. "I don't want to have to work... but..." Gumball turns over in bed, lying on his side. "But... I don't want to give my mom a hard time..."
Gumball lies in bed, thinking about this B.O.A.R.D. and what they do.
(Next morning. 09:25am)
Gumball walks down the street while holding the papers he needs for the interview. He stops walking to wait for the traffic light to turn green.
"Ahhh..." Gumball lets out a sigh. "I just hope it's a nice job..."
The light turns green, giving Gumball a chance to cross the street. Walking for a while longer through the streets, Gumball stops in front of a huge building (it's not very tall, but its sides are quite long.) Gumball looks at the sign in front of the entrance with the company name "B.O.A.R.D".
"Okay... let's go." Gumball sighs and walks to the entrance of the company.

Note: This fic won't have very long chapters. I want them to be short to make it easier to write and more immersive for the story to develop. Also, this fic won't be very fast-paced, so at times it may seem slow, but I ask for patience. Please!
