"I don't get it."
Chloe hummed, turning slightly to face Red. She was sitting at her desk, completing one of the many assignments she had for her math class, whilst Red sat by her side, leaning on her shoulder, probably scrolling through her newly acquired phone. She wasn't sure. "Don't get what?"
"The obsession with first kisses. Or kissing in general. It doesn't seem like that big of a deal," Red explained.
Chloe placed down her pencil. "Have you had your first kiss?"
Red sat up, turning to face her. She shook her head. "Well, some guy in Wonderland kissed me when we were kids. It was only a peck though, so it doesn't really count," Red shrugged.
"How'd it make you feel?" Chloe questioned, now turning her full attention to the redhead.
"Indifferent. Actually, uncomfortable. But I felt bad. Mother beheaded him after she found out," Red explained.
"She- WHAT?" Chloe yelled, the sudden noise startling Red. Noticing the reaction, Chloe apologised and cleared her throat. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, why wouldn't I be?" Red asked, tilting her head slightly.
"...never mind."
"Have you had yours?" Red asked, bringing up her legs to sit cross legged on the chair.
Chloe nodded. "A while ago. My ex and I kissed to make her ex boyfriend jealous. I was already aware I liked her but that kiss made her realise she is into girls."
"What was it like?"
"Like everyone said it would be. Fireworks. Butterflies in my stomach. The whole world faded away when her lips were on mine," Chloe explained, pulling her legs in to cross them too. "Since then, I've never quite had that feeling with any girl I've kissed."
Red narrowed her eyes, her face scrunching. Chloe glanced at her, before turning back around and facing her work. She picked up her pencil and put it to the paper.
"Can we kiss?"
The pencil dropped from her hand while her head snapped to Red's direction. She expected a failed attempt of hiding a smile, or a huge grin on Red's face as the girl often did when teased her. Yet, Red was dead serious. "Just so I can get my first kiss over and done with. I can prove to myself it's not always a big deal."
Contemplating for a second, she sighed. "Sure, I guess. As long as you're okay with your first kiss being with me," Chloe responded.
Red nodded and moved closer to Chloe. Hesitatingly, Chloe brought her hand up to Red's face, cupping her cheek as she pulled her forward. She stopped just before she reached her lips, her eyes meeting Red's. "Are you sure about this?" She whispered.
"Just kiss me already, Chloe," Red whispered back. Chloe pressed her lips against Red's, feeling the warmth of Red's breath mix with her own. She kissed her softly, the taste of Red's cherry chapstick infecting her mind.
Pulling away slightly, their gazes met. Chloe stared deep into her eyes, trying to stop the thoughts from rushing in.
It has happened again. She felt the fireworks, the butterflies, time slowing down as their kiss deepened. She felt her heart race and she was sure had she not been cupping Red's face, her hands would have been shaking. Her eyes dropped down to Red's lips feeling Red's slow breaths against hers.
On the other hand, Red was confused. She did not hate the kiss, certainly not like she did with the boy from Wonderland. Though it was not like the fireworks Chloe had described, she definitely felt butterflies. Her head was screaming for more, more of the blueberry chapstick she could taste on Chloe's lips.
"So," Chloe whispered, her eyes drawing back to Red's. "What did you think?"
"I think," Red started, bringing her hand up to Chloe's face. "That you need to kiss me again Bluey. It only-"
Red didn't even get a chance to finish her sentence before Chloe closed the gap between the two, kissing her with a newfound sense of urgency. Red let out a small gasp but didn't pull away. She tilted her head slightly, allowing Chloe to deepen their kiss. She let her hand trace down to Chloe's neck, pulling her closer, and feeling her heartbeat.
It was racing. Chloe's heart was racing. She hadn't expected Red to kiss her back. And as Red pulled back, she felt a pang in her chest. She missed Red's lips already. Chloe's eyes met Red's once again, knowing she would see a flash of regret on Red's face, yet all she saw was Red's furrowed brows and parted lips. Chloe had to hold the urge to kiss them again.
"That was..." Red trailed off, breaking the eye contact they shared.
"Was?" Chloe murmured, trying to catch Red's gaze again.
"I don't know," she responded. "I still don't understand the fireworks but," she paused, a small smile threatening her lips. "I liked it."
The confession made Chloe's breath hitch. "Yeah?"
Red nodded, her hand still holding onto Chloe's neck. She dropped her grip, letting her hand rest on Chloe's shoulder. "One more," she whispered, her tone more of a beg as she met Chloe's gaze one more time. "Just to make sure."
Chloe didn't need to be told twice. She kissed Red eagerly, the urgency of her last kiss replaced with desire. She kissed her slowly, eventually letting Red take control. Red deepened their kiss, a small hum escaping her lips as she kissed her.
When they pulled apart, Red sat back, looking more puzzled than ever. "Huh."
"Huh?" Chloe asked, almost too afraid to find out Red's response. Red glanced at her, then her lips, and back at her eyes.
"I think I get it now. The obsession with kissing," Red admitted. She tilted her head, a grin growing on her face as she spoke. "Might need to kiss you a few more times to fully understand it."
Chloe rolled her eyes, failing at holding back a smile. "Then kiss me, Red."
Red smirked, leaning in closer. "Careful, Charming. You're playing with fire."
Chloe's smile turned into a grin. She tilted her head, leaning in closer as she whispered. "Maybe I like the heat."
Red's eyes widened, her heart skipping a beat as Chloe pulled her in for another kiss. Red might not know a lot, but she knew one thing for sure.
She could not get enough of those blueberry-flavoured lips.
If I could remember what Kylia fan fic I read that had the fire line (from Wattpad), I would definitely give credit to it. I just can't find it, so if you know which one I'm referencing pls lmk.
