The next morning after breakfast, Ugin led me outside.

"Are you ready to try this?" Ugin asked. I nodded nervously. "I'm ready."

"Okay. Before we start, I have a gift for you. I created your arcane focus while you slept last night," Ugin said.

With that, Ugin lowered his hand, inside lay a blue green tear shaped jewel that glowed a soft light.

"I have created a piece of my essence for you, so that you can focus your magic better. It will also allow us to feel and hear each other no matter how far apart we are. I also made it into a necklace so that you can have it with you always."

I took the pendant, and slipped it over my head. I began to cry, but from happiness. No one had ever given me a gift before, and this one meant more to me than anything else other than being with Ugin himself. I rubbed at my eyes, wiping the tears from them.

"Thank you Ugin. I will always take care of it."

Ugin nodded, and I hugged his arm tightly.

Once my emotions were under control, I began to work on magic.

With my new arcane focus it became much easier to focus as well as aim my spells and that part went smoothly. I did not get nearly as tired as I had the day before. Ugin seemed pleased at the very quick progress, and after a couple of hours of practice he thought it was time to once again try the song magic.

I was nervous but ready, but not sure where to begin. Ugin spoke: "Perhaps to try to think about the type of magic to cast while you sing."

I nodded, then began to try it, coming up with a melody from my head, while thinking of a wind spell. It seemed to be the safest type of spell to try. As I sang a soft wind began to blow from my song.

"Wonderful," Ugin said. "Is that the type of spell you wanted to cast?"

I nodded.

"Good, let's try a fire spell next."

I nodded and sang a different song that was a bit more aggressive, then thought about a fire spell.

Suddenly, the air erupted in flames. Ugin grabbed me in his hand taking flight to get us away from the fire, then casting a spell of his own to douse the fire.

Once we landed, I sighed in frustration."I'm sorry, I didn't mean to do that."

"I know, it's alright," Ugin said, "No harm done and we can work on it. It's not your fault."

I still felt bad though, and began to sing a song to heal the burnt ground and grass immediately appeared where scorched earth had been.

Ugin smiled, "let's stop for the day," he suggested.

I nodded, glad to stop for a while.

Ugin went to a wall of the lair, and propped himself up against it leaning on his back a bit. Then he picked me up, and laid me on his chest. I lay my head on his heart, and hugged him tight.

After a moment, Ugin spoke, "I have a thought. I would like to combine your song with my ghost fire magic."

"Ghost fire magic?" I asked him.

"Oh yes, I have not shown you that yet."

Holding out his hand a transparent flame materialized into his hand.

"This is ghostfire, my greatest creation," Ugin announced, with a great amount of pride.

"It's so pretty," I agreed.

"Ah, so you can see it?"

"Yes."

"Good, I am glad. Now try to focus your song on the ghostfire. I know that I said that we were done casting spells today, but I am very curious to try this. Don't worry I promise that You nor I will get hurt."

I nodded, and closed my eyes, and listened to his heartbeat a moment. Then I began to sing again, focusing on the fire in Ugins hand.

After a moment the flame flared from transparent to a Prismatic flame, the rainbow flame flared larger and brighter, growing in intensity.

After a moment, Ugin dissipated the flame.

"That was beautiful," he said. "We can combine our magic together."

"But what happens when it hits something?" I asked.

"Hmmmmmmm, I'm not sure yet."

Ugin once again materialized the ghostfire in his hand again,

"Let's see."

I nodded and sang to try to recreate the prismatic flame. I was able to do this again, and when it was large enough Ugin blew it at a nearby rock. When it hit the rock, but did not explode. Instead it dissipated, but left flowers, and sparkly stones in its wake.

"I see," Ugin stated. "It seems that what happens to the flame depends on your song."

I nodded. "That is the song that I used to heal things when I was small," I said.

Ugin nodded. "That makes sense. At some point I would like to try it with more damaging, or even defensive spells, but we have plenty of time for that," Ugin said.

I nodded, intrigued by the idea that we could combine our magic for good uses.

We rested for the rest of the afternoon, talking about lots of things like magic, as well as other dragons that were out in the multiverse.

Before we knew it, sunset had come upon us. Ugin sent the sion out for food as we headed back to the nearby lair. Clouds had begun to move in, and hide the sun. Ugin said that it would be a stormy night.

"I am not a huge fan of thunder," I admitted to him.

"That's alright," Ugin said. "I am here with you, and my heartbeat is stronger than thunder."

I nodded, smiling.

Once dinner arrived, we ate, and soon after it began to storm. Ugin lay on his back, and helped me climb up to his heart.

I snuggled against him, and began to stroke his scales again, but now I noticed several scars on his chest.

"You have scars," I said, tracing them with a finger.

"Yes I received them long ago. When my twin killed me."

"Killed you?" I asked

"Yes, that is how I became a Spirit Dragon," Ugin said softly. "I can tell you the story if you wish."

"Not if it makes you sad," I said firmly.

"It was a long time ago, and he is dead now as well. I don't mind telling you, but it is a long tale."

"That's okay," I said, hugging him.

Ugin nodded, and replied: "get comfortable."

I replied by snuggling into his chest getting as close to his heart as I could.

Then Ugin told me his story.

It took a long time, but Ugin told me everything, about his twin, about how he was killed by his twin, and of how he became a Spirit Dragon. He also told me of how he was almost killed again, but was saved by a fellow planeswalker that I would someday meet and of how he and another dragon cousin named Niv Mizzet teamed up to save the multiverse from his twin, as well as imprison him until his natural death. Not long after that he had returned to Tarkir, and had met me. He finished his story with. "You coming into my life was perhaps the best thing that has ever happened to me."

I smiled that I was able to do something for Ugin.

After a moment of thought, Ugin asked: "your master what kind of spirits did he summon? Did he ever summon draconic spirits?"

"No, he usually only summoned lesser demons and undead humans. He really was not all that powerful, I mean he needed me to control them as well as keep them alive. I don't think that he could ever summon your twin back from the dead," I replied, catching on to his thoughts.

Ugin nodded, sighing with relief.

"That's good," he said. "Even though he is gone, I still fear that he might try to come back someday."

"I hope not, he sounds horrible."

Ugin sighed sadly, "he was, but he was still my twin, and it does sadden me that things had to go the way that they did."

I hugged Ugin tightly. Ugin gently squeezed me a bit tighter as well.

"It's alright, I have you now so it does not hurt so badly anymore."

"I am glad," I said.

In the distance thunder crashed, and I jumped a little bit.

Ugin smiled, "It's alright," he said, "whenever it thunders, just listen to my heartbeat, rather than the thunder."

At that moment, another blast of thunder from outside. I pressed into Ugin's chest, listening to his heart. Indeed, it helped me not to jump so much.

So the rest of the evening was spent snuggling into Ugin's chest everytime thunderstruck from outside.

To Ugin, it became a game because he knew when the thunder was going to strike so right before it did he would grunt a bit as I snuggled into him. To be honest, I was also enjoying this game. I felt so safe with him, and I just loved being there with him, and I never wanted to leave him.

Finally The storm passed, and after a bit more cuddling with Ugin. I fell into a deep happy sleep.

Playing with Serenity made me happy, she seemed to be comforted by my little game. It had indeed hurt my heart to tell Serenity about Nicol Bolas, my twin, but it was also in a way a huge relief as well to share my tale with her. I was glad that she did not resent me for being his twin. In the past. I had run into other planeswalkers, who had tried to lump me in with him. I was glad that Serenity did not. I was at least a bit relieved that her old master more than likely would not be able to resummon him back from the dead, so it also eased my mind at least somewhat. I hoped that I would never have to deal with his return ever, but at least for the time being I was content. At this moment, Serenity cuddled against me in her sleep. Gently I stroked her face with my finger.

"I'm here," I whispered, "and I am not going anywhere."

Serenity sighed, and snuggled against me again. Content that she was alright, I began to meditate and rest as well.
