The next day when Narset, and Sarkhan stopped to visit Ugin asked them to make a brace that would help me to get around a bit better if he was not around. Sarkhan also carved me a staff made out of wood as well to help me balance. Ugin also carved Draconic Runes into the staff that would also give me more protection.
These items were helpful though it took me time to get used to walking with the brace. At first I stumbled a lot, and had to lean on Ugin for support, but I slowly got the hang of it, though I was far from graceful. The staff was a bit easier to use, and Ugin's magic made it even easier to hold onto as well as shield me from harm.
A few days later Jace Beleren returned with a message as well as a warning.
Ugin, and I were in the lair finishing the morning meal, when Ugin felt him planses walk. Jace then asked him to come in. Ugin looked at me, and I nodded, and moved to sit next to Ugin. Jace came in saying that he had news from my home world.
"I fear that it is not great news. That man who is the counsel to the king Dimenyez wants you back, and from what I found out from reading his mind is that he is preparing a planer spell to bring himself here, as well as his so-called spirit army. He is not really able to control them so it will be absolute chaos."
Ugin nodded as did I. At this point I was not surprised at what lengths that he might go to get me and my power back.
"Ugin," I said softly, "whether he is able to control the army of demon spirits or not. There will be too many to fight on your own."
Ugin nodded. "Yes, while I am powerful I cannot handle a whole army alone, and I refuse to put you into danger," Ugin added gently, touching me on the cheek with his finger, "but worry not we have others who can help us."
"You mean the other dragons?" I asked.
"Yes, I am sure that they will protect the child of Tarkir."
With that, Ugin picked me up, and stood up on his hind legs at a height of forty feet or so, and let out a primordial roar. Dragons answered his call as well. After a few moments we saw all five dragon clans heading our way. When they got there Ugin told them the situation.
"A horrible man is coming to Tarkir to Take Serenity away from her home, and family. I ask that you all work together with me to protect her."
Dromoka answered: "we will protect Serenity with our lives. I am sure that the other clans will agree with this, even the likes of Silumgar."
The others nodded firmly.
I spoke, "Thank you everyone." and then from my heart I began to sing to everyone present. The song was about dragons, working together to protect their family as well as their home.
Song Of Tarkir.
"I was all alone.
But now I am home.
You all are my family.
And I love you all.
Ugin is my life.
Tarkir is my home.
Everyone here has embraced me
as a part of their family.
Now there is a threat
That seeks to take me
Back to the place
that I don't want to be.
I want to stay here.
with all of my family.
Please help me protect
the home I hold dear.
His darkness comes,
But we will not fear.
Ugin is by my side.
I have you all near.
I ask of you all.
To help me protect my home,
And family on Tarkir."
When I was finished, Ugin spoke, "that was as always beautiful and heartfelt."
"Hear Hear," Ojetui added.
I hugged Ugin and pressed my head to his chest feeling his heartbeat.
Ugin spoke to the dragon clans.
"Please make ready for battle. I don't want to have to fight, but I will if I must."
Everyone nodded, and left to prepare the clans for a fight.
Once more alone Jace spoke to me. "You have a good thing going here. I am sorry that we almost took it away from you."
I nodded. "Ugin is my family."
"I know, but I have a favor to ask: can we also aid in the fight since we are sort of responsible for causing it."
Ugin nodded. "We can use all of the help you can give."
Jace nodded, "Then I will retrieve Chandra, and Nissa."
He turned to leave, but turned back to look at me.
"By the way he said I met a woman named Mirai on Arkos. She knew who you were. Do you know that name?"
I blinked. "She is still alive," I said with a smile. "She was the woman that took me in after my parents died."
"I see," Jace said. "She told me to tell you that she is glad that you're safe, and that you stay close to Ugin."
I nodded, and I was glad to know that she was still okay. After giving his message he left to get his companions.
Once everything was settled, and quiet Ugin, and I had settled down in the lair to rest. Ugin lay on his back, and I lay on his chest with my head laying my head on his heart listening to his heartbeat. I felt fear, but also determination. I knew that as long as we were together we were going to get through it.
Uhgin asked, "where did that song come from?"
"I don't know," I admitted. "It just felt right to sing it, and try to bring everyone together."
"Well It definitely worked," he replied. Ugin hugged me tight, squeezing me with his hand, and I snuggled against his heart.
After a moment Ugin asked "How do you think of me?" He asked.
"What do you mean?" I asked
"Do you see me as a dragon or something more?"
"I see you as my friend," I said
"More than my friend?" Ugin asked me. "Can you see me as a parent, A father figure perhaps?"
"I don't really know for sure since I have never had a father before, but since I do know that a father protects, and loves their child. That would make sense." I thought for a moment longer, "yes I feel that you are an excellent father Ugin." I finished with a smile, and a squeeze to Ugins chest.
"Would you mind if I told others that you were my daughter?"
"Not at all. I love that Idea." Ugin smiled, sighing with relief. "I am glad to hear it. I did not think that you would like it."
"I do, and it makes me happy," I said.
"Well then it is official," Ugin said. "We are officially a family. Ugin, and Serenity the Spirit Dragon. I like it."
I closed my eyes, and snuggled up against his chest. I now officially had a home, and now a real family. Something that I had never had before even when I lived with Mirai. It felt more like a cousin or friendly relationship.I knew that she cared for me, but not the same way that Ugin did, and Now I totally was able to understand the difference. I snuggled against Ugins chest as a happy sleepiness began to overtake me
"Goodnight Ugin. I don't know what tomorrow will bring, but I know that as long as I am with you everything will work out in the end."
Ugin nodded, "Goodnight My little treasure. I will be right by your side."
I nodded stroking his scales as I began to fall asleep.
I was so happy that Serenity agreed to me being her adoptive father. I was not sure if she would or not, but I was glad that she did. I was happy. I promised that no matter what I would protect her, as well as cherish her she was my treasure after all.
As I began to meditate, I whispered to her, "don't worry Serenity, I will always be with you no matter what happens. You are my daughter, and I love you."
She must have heard me because there was a smile on her face as she slept.
