Chapter 7

Flashing Colours and a Rescue

Sebastian must have followed Ariel to her Grotto secretly. He somehow must've snunk in without being noticed and Ariel caught him. She was ignoring him as Sebastian was calling out her name to come back (typical). She kept swimming further and further up to the surface. I soon spot something else on the surface, only this thing looked familiar. "Humans" i say on my breath, it was a ship sailing on the surface above.

This is even worst there was a humans ship on the surface and Ariel was heading towards it! I couldn't just stay here, watch her go up to the surface like that and risk her in being seen!. If Ariel goes up there she could get into a lot of trouble esspecially with those colourful banging thingys everywhere that seemed really unsafe. I chose to follow secretly, this was the first time had gone up to the surface at night.

I was nervous, i was shaking but i choose to ignore my fears.. The surface was getting closer as i swam further and further up ignoring the fear for my own safety. The flashes and bangs were getting bigger and louder. Soon i got to just underneath the break of the water. I made sure that i was a few meters back from were Ariel, Flounder and Sebastian popped up so i wasn't spotted.

I broke the oceans surface and suddenly i was breathing the world above's air. The flashing lights appeared to be coming from the human ship and were continuing to flash with colour. Everything looked more clear and glittery now that i was above the waves. I actually started to like the flashing colours but still unsure about the noises they were making. As long as they stay up in the sky, i was happy!.

The stars had come out in the night sky as well as the moon and clouds were hanging around although they seemed a little big for my liking!. As i move my head down to more sea level, i spot Ariel, Sebastian and Flounder. Ariel was diving in and out of the water to get closer to the ship and Sebastian was trying to call out to her ordering her to come back.

I watched as she indeed got closer to the ship. The fear of her safety was getting to me now. I couldn't bare seeing her caught by one of those humans. I swim closer towards Flounder and Sebastian who were just floating on the surface watching all the events that were unfolding. Suddenly there was a slight chill in air and wind was starting to pick up.

As i creep up behind them, Sebastian who was talking to Flounder on who worried he was spotted me "URCHIN! What are you doing here man? Your crazy to be out here!" he yells "Same goes for you two!" i simply answer back to the crab. "Ariel's gone to investigate the ship!" Flounder cries "I can see that! What if she gets into trouble!" i yell to both of them worriedly.

"Her father is not going to like dis!" Sebastian cries, "Then we need to convince her to come back to us!" i say to the crab as i look over towards the ship. Ariel was now perched on a ledge watching the activity going on on the ship while remaining unseen. The three of us could hear music coming from the ship along with something that was making a barking sound. I was just about ready to swim over until i notice a seagull fly above towards where Ariel was sitting.

"Is that?" i begin to ask "That's Scuttle, he is probably interested in what Ariel is up to" says Flounder. We watch as now both Ariel and Scuttle were now watching the activity through a whole on the side. "Maybe Scuttle might convince her to come back?" i say to Sebastian and Flounder but they just looked at me with looks to red "Are you insane!", "Don't count on it Urchin, that bird is nothing but strange and loopy!" says Sebastian.

Suddenly as another banging flashy light went into the sky, a different type of bang occurred. It sounded like it was coming from the sky "Lighting!" Sebastian cries "A storm is comin!". The wind was getting stronger, the waves got more fearless as it began to rain heavily Sebastian, Flounder and i were struggling to keep afloat as we continued to watch Ariel who was still on the ship.

She soon a big gust of wind caused her to fly off and fall back into the ocean. Scuttle meanwhile got carried away into the sky. Rain was pelting down as another strike of lighting occurred only this time it hit one of the sails on the ship causing it to make an orange flicking light. I think Ariel told me that it was called a fire. Ariel had popped her head out of the water to continue watching. Fearing for her safety i wanted to go to her but both Flounder and Sebastian stopped me.

The ship was rocking and the fire along with the wind and rain was distroying the ship fast. Its occupants were getting off in a small row boat. We kept getting splashed and crushed by the wild waves. Flounder was getting too scared and dove back under while Sebastian was going to do the same thing "Urchin! Flounder's right its too dangerous out here!" He yelled "But what about Ariel?" I yelled back.

Sebastian dove underwater and i looked back towards the ship. Soon i while a painful clip on the end of my fins "OUCH!" I scream. Knowing it was the crab, I did want i was told and dove under. I was happy to be breathing the oceans air again but was still worried about Ariel.

Then there was a sudden sound that came from above the surface that sounded like a huge explosion. Right now i was even more terrified for Ariel's safety!. I began to look around for her again but she was no where to be seen. I was unable to see a thing due to the ship that was now almost completely under water and its debris was everywhere.

Flounder and Sebastian remained with me and they were just as worried as i was, fearing the worse until we saw in a ray light a dark silhouette of a red haired mermaid with someone in her hands pulling them up towards the surface. "Is, is, is that a….." Flounder begins to say "Human!" I say as i finished his this sentence.

I was not feeling the greatest right now. "Ariel is rescuing a human! What is her father going to say!" Sebastian cries "Didn't you just see what just happened Sebastian, now is not the time to be telling the king anything!" I tell him as i cover this mouth. He nodded and i take my hands away, i then spoke again "Ariel is rescuing a human and not just any human but a male human!".

"What does the human being male have to do with anything?" Flounder asks "Urchin has a little crush on Ariel!" I hear Sebastians faded voice say as i dove deeper and deeper away from them heading back towards home. I just was unable to bear seeing what unfold next.
