Sirius was relieved when his son was distracted over the evening. He knew his Aunt and the twins would do their best but his son worried about him a lot. Harry did not have memories when either of his dads were active street aurors. Moody had allowed Sirius to come back as an auror on the agreement he would never work street unless needed. He did it from time to time but only when his son was at school and not around to be worried. He knew his son had plenty of family to raise him if something happened but he didn't want his son to lose another parent. And he also did not want to risk not seeing his son grow up. He though would do anything to make sure his son and the rest of the family were safe. He was concerned enough about Quirell, he did not need more to put his son and others at risk. He was reminded there had been false signs of death eaters and evil Dumbledore for years. When they headed for the manor for the holidays, he put his mind on his son and his son alone. This was time he always had off from the school anyways and could just be family time. They as always split it between the manor and Malfoy manor as well.
A few days after Christmas he was reluctantly taking his son into town. Harry was headed the next day to France. He had been invited by the Grangers on a ski trip for a few days, and he would also be visiting his grandfather. He had bought a gift for the Grangers but wanted something for Galrod.
Sirius was reluctant and doing a bad job of hiding it. "Perhaps we can simply order something from the owl mail."
Harry shook his head. " I want to find somethng for him personally. Besides we have to go visit Uncle Moody."
Sirius knew his son had a point. "If I do not take you I may find myself on toilet duty for the next year. You he will forgive."
Harry giggled a little. "Then we better not be late either. You know Uncle Moody does not being kept waiting."
Sirius handed his son his cloak. "He takes after your grandfather in that way. All of them."
Remus came into the room as Harry did up his cloak. "You are running late. I thought you'd have been gone."
Harry laughed when he took the floo powder. "I have been trying to tell him that."
Sirius groaned as he watched his son go. "He is turning more into my grandsire every day. "
Remus shrugged. "There is worse people he could take after. I think there is a bit of his Papa in there too."
As Sirius took the floo he hoped so. And he knew Remus was right, there was worse people Harry could take after. Remus and Wallburga both thought Harry took after all of the Black men, that included his Papa. Though they were very different people, there were certain traits that Arcturus and his stubborn grandson had in common, even Pollux had. Harry was turning into his own little variation of it. But he had the empathetic side of the Potters and the bookish side of Remus that would have made Lily smile. He made both sides of his family very proud with every passing year now.
They were able to head right into the auror department. Aurors all could and Harry had been keyed in by Alastor. Harry had spent a good chunk of his life visiting not only his Papa here. Moody to this day saw Harry as a grandson and he had ulterior motives for the visit.
Harry bounded right past Moody's assistant but the woman just smile as he went. He bounded into his Uncle's office. "Morning Uncle Moody."
The man tried to look serious as he looked up from his work. "Have you heard of knocking? And you are late."
Harry pouted. "You always told me I could come right in."
The man laughed. "You are most welcome. Your father on the other hand may be on bathroom duty."
Sirius was grumbling but his son just giggled. "Papa said you'd say that."
Moody looked to Sirius. "Kingsley is waiting for you."
Sirius knew but didn't wish to worry his son. "He better not have bathroom tools in hand."
Moody growled. "Get out of here or that will be next. Leave me and my future auror here to catch up."
Harry plopped down in a chair. "You are cool and all Uncle Moody. But I want to be a healer one day."
The man shared a smile with Sirius and sat down to focus on Harry. "I would be as proud of you and your family."
Sirius had some work to see to but he had brought his son for other reasons. Moody had seen Harry over the holiday but had not have a chance for a private talk. Sirrius knew there were things Harry would tell Moody that he would not even tell his grandsires. Sirius knew there were things his grandsires and Remus even knew beyond him. He never felt hurt, well he tried not, he was happy his son had people he trusted. He knew that Harry would open up to Moody about what was happening. Moody would never disclose what Harry said to him, to Sirius or anyone else. But it would still be able to help keep him safe. Sirius would never push to know what they spoke of as Harry needed to trust they would keep his confidence.
When Sirius returned Harry was just finishing chatting with him. "Toilet rings all done Papa?"
Sirius groaned. "Don't give your Uncle any ideas. Now we should get going."
Harry stood but he turned back to his Uncle. "Happy New Years Uncle Moody."
Moody smiled. "And you too. Do not get into too much trouble like that Papa of yours, in France."
Sirius shared a look with his boss as his son was leaving the room. Moody simply nodded in his head but that was confirmation enough. Harry had been willing to open up to him. He was feeling somewhat better taking his son into the alley to do some shopping especially as he had a tag along or two with him. He had not needed to ask Moody to borrow some. If there had been none to spare Moody would have been happy to come himself.
Kingsley came into the door when they were gone. "I am surprised that he has agreed to this."
Sirius knew his grandfathers had a point but he still never liked this idea. When all three old men had thought it was good to take Harry out, under a guarded pressence, he knew he had to listen. There was very few times the three men ever agreed on the same topic. Fleamont was far less likely to agree to anything that might concern Harry's safety at all. He agreed to this with a few of his men for backup which of course Harry did not know about. He wanted Harry to enjoy the shoping and not be on edge if it wasn't needed.
Harry was happy to explore the book store. He had been amazed when he had seen his grandsire's library collection. Elves may have had a lot different but his grandsire had a library that rivalled the school, larger then any of the manors. He always loved new additions.
Harry was choosing a book when he noticed an odd book. "What is that? I have never seen anything like that?"
Sirius appeared at his side. "Have you found a book? We should be getting home."
Harry was about to say something when he screeched. "I swear the book just bit me."
His Papa laughed. "I have heard a text book is coming out that bites but I doubt that is it. I think you have a paper cut."
Harry knew his Papa made sense but it did not feel like a normal paper cut. "I guess."
Sirius laughed when he directed his son towards the counter. "I am the one meant to be scared of books. They don't bite."
Mr Flourish smiled when he heard that. "Not until next year at least. I am not certain how I have been convinced to carry the book."
Harry had thought his Papa was kidding. "Really? I mean glowing I get, but biting doesn't make sense."
Sirius explained. "It was mentioned at work. The publishers had to get special permission for the book."
The owner handed him his book in a bag. "If you take care of magical creatures in a few years you may see. It may be the text."
Sirius led his son out. "Not if your Uncle Moony ends up taking the job as he is considering. He would not be impressed."
Harry giggled a little. "More your style Papa. Wish it would eat your homework or other books."
Sirius tried to look hurt but he laughed a little at that. He could admit it still sometimes made him laugh that he ran a school. But he had always flourished when he was at the academy. And he had done well as the head of the academy for the past nearly a decade. Remus was the more natural teacher of the two of them. He had been considering a position at the school and care of magical creatures had been one of the classes he was being considered for. Severus often grumbled about having a marauder on staff but it was good natured as he and Remus were very close. Harry jokingly groaned about having a parental figure around full time but he would have loved it. Uncle Moony would be a great teacher.
Papa was convinced to take him for some ice cream. Harry reminded him that he should ice his cut, besides they never left without going to Fortescue's for a treat. They had visited the candy shop along the way but still they needed ice cream.
As they were waiting in time his Papa saw him looking at his hand. "Is it bothering you cub? You seem worried."
Harry looked at his finger and there was an odd tingling. He didn't want to worry Papa though. "Nothing. You're right just a paper cut."
Sirius had an odd look for a moment but motioned him to a front. "Pick your flavor. We will take it home."
Harry spotted someone and mentioned. "Maybe we should get another scoop. Tonks does like the chameleon ice cream."
Sirius snorted as the ice cream did look like her hair. "I am sure she would be happy. But not sure you will see her before France."
Harry smirked. "She is right behind us Papa. She is not as good at disguises as she thinks she is."
Tonks appeared next to them. She shared a look with Harry. "I got off early. I thought that I would try and surprise you."
Harry was happy to see her and didn't think anything off. "Look at the book I found for grandsire."
Tonks smiled as she saw the book. She too had seen his library. "I am sure he would enjoy. He sends me one every year."
Sirius snickered as the two ordered ice cream. "Probably the only one. Your mother stopped when you were five."
Tonks nudged him in the ribs. "I could say the same thing to you. How you are my teacher I am not sure."
Tonks had been meant to be on guard duty but she was happy to join them. Harry would have been suspicious if she did not join them. She ended up coming back to the manor with them. Harry would have insisted on staying at the shop if she wasn't coming with them. They should have known that Harry would have spotted her. He was eagle eyed about a lot not just as a seeker and he knew most of her disguise spells. She was off for a few weeks as still in the academy training but had volunteered to keep an eye on Harry today.
When they got home Arcturus was waitng as they came into the den. "I see you are home. It went well?"
Harry showed him the book. "I found the best gift. And Uncle Moody made Papa clean the toilets."
Sirius didn't find it funny. "Keep that up brat and I will make you. Now go with your cousin and find bowls for your ice cream."
Tonks saw the two men wanted to talk and led Harry off. "You will have to help me find the kitchen. Never been there."
Harry thought better. "Kreacher can bring the bowls. I want to show you what I got for my trip."
As the two disappeared Arcturus looked at his godson. "No issues?"
Sirius sent his ice cream off with an elf and sunk down to the chess board with the man. "No. Tonks was the only surprise."
As the men played chess they discussed what had happened including the update from Kingsley. Harry thought nothing of it as he and Tonks headed up stairs. His Papa and grandfather often played chess together and it had been a few days since they had. Harry loved playing chess but he could admit that Grandpa Pollux was his favorite opponent. He had been able to beat Arcturus for over a year now. Pollux was his true competition now. Papa still groaned sometimes about him being close to Pollux. But it was good natured. He still wished Harry was closer to Fleamont then the other Black.
Harry looked at his finger later, still worried a tad. 'Don't worry Papa. He won't want you to go.'
Harry happily headed off to France with the Grangers. He spent a few days with the elves but he had been with the actual holiday with the Grangers on the ski slopes. He had never skiied before but he had an incredible time. There were times his hand had bothered him, and there had been a bit of blood but he had not thought anything of it. It simply had not healed fully and he was using his hand a lot. He had let his Papa's odd behavior when they went shopping get to his head a bit too much. He was not the family member that was supposed to have an aversion to books.
When they got back to the UK he spent the last night at Grimmauld before he headed back to school. He loved the time at the manor, but Grimmauld was home. He liked the quieter time just with Papa, Moony and Grandpa Fleamont.
He was surprised when Fleamont and Pollux accompanied him to school instead of Papa. "Is something wrong?"
Pollux assured him. "It has been some time since we were there for training. Magorian will be meeting us."
Fleamont smiled. "It has been since the start of the year I have come. I wanted to see for myself."
Harry was happy to hear. "I thought I'd have to wait a week. I have missed my training with the centaurs."
Pollux shook his head. "You certainly don't take after your Papa. He'd have been happy for a break from studies."
Fleamont didn't disagree. "Both your fathers. Fortunate other family has rubbed off on you."
Magorian and Firenze were both waiting for them in the paddocks. Harry was happy to show both grandsires what he had learned and also show Magorian he had been practicing. He had always promised never to practice alone so Pollux had seen some. He could tell they were all impressed. When it came to this training none of them gave praise unless he deserved it. And Pollux was even harder then the others. He adored his grandsire but he knew Papa was right that Pollux was not an easy man. But he appreciated the time and effort the man had always put into him.
Firenze was eying him and towards the end he offered to take Harry up to school. Neither of his grandsires had an issue and they said their goodbyes to him in the woods. They knew he was certainly safe with Firenze on his way up tot he castle.
Firenze handed him a package. "I believe you may need this. It is a tea an elf can brew."
Harry was confused but he took the pouch. He had not noticed Firenze leaving and coming back. "Why?"
The centaur watched him. "Do not think I haven't noticed you favoring your hand. You will come to me if it gets worse."
Harry could have reminded him of Poppy but he knew the centaurs were great healers. Firenze rivalled his father. "I promise."
The centaur watched him. "What has happened? That does not seem a simple cut."
Harry explained the book. "It was just a paper cut. I have just not rested it."
Firenze had a look that told Harry he was not totally convinced but he let it drop. "You will keep your word."
Harry assured the centaur and then headed into the school. He knew the centaurs all watched over him but Firenze seemed to have a special interest in him. It almost seemed like an Uncle roll to him. Tonks had mentioned it more then once to him. He knew that Poppy would have alerted his Papa if he went to her so part of him was relieved that Firenze had noticed. He was still trying to convince himself there was nothing wrong with the cut. But when he was alone in his dorm later, as the others headed for dinner already, he had an elf brew him the tea first
He thought he was alone as he was sipping the tea but Hermione appeared in the door. "Here you are. You need to come for dinner."
Harry finished his tea and stood up. "Sorry I was just coming."
Hermione eyed him. "I would think after training you'd even be hungrier. Not even a book to distract you."
Shrugging he just followed her out and down the hall. "I guess I just had my mind on the training."
Down in the hall he put his mind into the dinner and reconnecting with his friends. He was soon drawn into talk of quidditch practices and he was distracted. He was excited about the coming games and set on them winning the cup this year. He had a lot to prove as the youngest seeker, especially as Cho was still trying to get his spot on the team. But every once and while his hand still bothered him.
As he went to bed his head was starting to ache. He shook it off. 'You are just tired. Nothing else'
