Chapter 7
Dimension
Tony decided to go see just what trouble Thanos could be brewing. Much to his surprise he found him farming a field of barley. He stood on a dirt pathway and looked upon the crop. He cocked his head to the side. "Farming?" he asked.
Thanos turned around and spied his adversary. He gently walked to not disturb the crop. "The barely is to make beer." he informed.
"You are going to start brewing?" he asked him.
"I know how to brew beer." he stated. He took in a deep breath. "It's peaceful here."
"Because it's just us now." he told him.
"No wars. Or a very short war." he smirked.
"I didn't know that you even knew how to grow anything." Tony confessed.
His face drew long for a moment. "I wasn't always like this."
"Mean?" he asked.
He smirked. "I once farmed the land. I can remember that. I remember field of hay, crops, fruit trees, animals. I just don't remember everything from that life."
"What do you mean 'that life'?" he asked.
"My life before I became a Titan." he stated.
"You mean you were not born big, ugly and purple?" he asked.
"I was once like you." he told him.
Tony gasped. "Wait! What?"
"I had forgotten much of it. But since I have been here, I can remember more." he confessed. "The anger is subsiding. Well, kind of."
"What do you mean you used to be like me? You mean human?" he wondered.
He nodded, "Eons ago."
"How did you get like this then?" he asked.
"I don't remember." he told him. "They did something to make me not remember what I was before this." he touched his chest.
"Who?" he asked.
"Atlanteans. My sworn enemy." he huffed.
"Like in Atlantis?" he wondered.
He nodded, "Yes! I will kill everyone of them. Rip them apart and chew their bones."
"Why would they make you into this?" he wondered.
"To fight their wars." he huffed upset. He closed his eyes for a moment and gave a deep exhale. "I shall stay here. No Atlantean can ever find me here. And I will never find one of them." he growled.
"Tell me what you know about Atlantis." he requested.
"Enough!" he huffed. "I don't wish to think about them anymore." He then offered, "I will send you some beer when it's ready."
"Okaay…" he wasn't sure how to reply. "I'll catch up later." He walked away wondering what Thanos knew of the ancient lost civilization.
Central Park
Thor had returned to Earth with his fiends. He was ready for a fight. He wanted to kill Thanos but was asked to use restraint.
Eddy stood with Dr. Strange upon eating a candy bar. She looked at her friend. "Ready to do this?"
"No!" he replied. "But we cannot leave Mr. Stark behind. I will open the portal and you pull out Stark."
"Thanos will be right behind him." she warned. She looked about. "Everyone ready."
The superheroes all agreed.
"We're ready." Steve Rodger stated.
Dr. Strange began the spell. His motions soon opened a portal into the dimension. "Now Eddy." he instructed.
She paused thinking of a good song to sing.
He rolled his eyes. "Just pick a song."
She started to bob her head to a tune. The song "Magic" by the band American played in the air thanks to the ethos. She used both hands in a grabbing motion and yanked hard.
Tony Stark found himself being yanked out of the dimension by an invisible force. He flew through the portal and landed hard on the ground. Right behind him came Thanos.
Thanos his the ground hard. He found he was ripped form his new found peace and home. He grew angry. He rose to his feet. He started swinging about angrily.
Tony requested. "My suit."
MJ and Pepper pulled him back.
Pepper stated, "They have a plan. Just let them do it."
Dr. Strange worked with Peter to tie Thanos down but he broke free of the webs. Steve and Thor also worked to restrain him along with Clint and Natasha.
Through the chaos of the battle Eddy managed to sneak up behind him. She winced for the only clear area to touch was the big purple left cheek of his behind.
"Ah crap." she sighed and then planted her hand on the left cheek of the giant purple Titian. "I have the body." she went into the trance.
Thanos froze and could not move. He found a warm sensation rushing his body and at first he thought he must have been shot. Then he lost consciousness. Thanos crumbed and fell to the ground. The large purple body began to shrink. His skin turned flesh color once more and his hair was dark brown with some gray. The battle uniform was now far too big.
Eddy collapsed on top of him. Dr. Strange pulled her off and started administrated the glucose. She started to come back around. She looked over and found the farmer laying on the grass. She gathered her strength and crawled over to him as the Avengers surrounded the scene.
Thanos pushed himself up. He was breathing heavy and unsure where he even was.
Eddy asked, "What's the last thing you remember?"
He turned and sat down on the grass. He seemed dazed and confused. "I remember working my field and the men came for me." He shook his head. "It was like the nightmare. I could not wake up from. Like a dream."
Eddy sat beside him and wiped the tears that came down the from her eyes. "I restored you. You were genetically altered to go fight a war you had nothing to do with. I'm so sorry. That never should have happened. It was a horrible mistake."
He looked at his hands once more. "I'm human again?" He then recalled. "My wife and kids."
She shook her head. "I'm sorry. I can't fix that. It's been too long. They are gone."
He squinted as he looked. "You look familiar?"
"Eddy." she stated. "Remember me?"
"You tried to help us escape. We were caught." he recalled.
"I tried to stop the program but my brother overruled me." she confessed. "I'm so sorry."
"I remember that." he nodded. "That was long ago. Eons ago." He then recalled, "Atlantis sank."
"We destroyed ourselves." she nodded. "There's hardly anything left now."
He looked around him. "Where am I now?"
"You are back on Earth. You're home." she told him.
"There is no way home." he shook his head.
"Yeah, I guess I can see your point." she agreed.
Thanos recognized a face. "I know you. I remember your face. We're friends."
"I wouldn't say we were friends." Tony rebutted.
Thanos grew sad.
"More like neighbors." he then tried to cheer him up. "You were going to make some beer and give me some."
"Beer." he recalled. "I make the best beer." he nodded. "It's the barely that's the key."
"Beer sounds good." Tony told him. He stood realizing that the monster he fought was just another human like himself.
Later
Tony Stark returned to his home and business. The media was ecstatic with the return of Iron Man and Avengers. Steve Rodgers agreed to be Captain America once more. Spiderman was welcomed as hero and Tony was not about to let Peter go crime fighting without an upgrade to his suit. Tony got Peter into MIT and an internship at Stark Industries. Ned got into MIT and Dr. Stephan Strange agreed to assist the boy in the study of magic. MJ also looked forward to college at MIT. Natasha decided she needed a new cover as coming back from the dead was bit harder to explain. She adopted the cover of being a twin sister and few knew the truth. Clint returned to his family.
Tony Stark arranged for a safe place for Thanos to live his life as a human. He set him up in a brewery position and Stark Beer was on the horizon.
Eddy was ready to disappear once more. She donned her old clothing and headed out into the streets early one morning. She turned into an alley to rest when she came across a familiar figure in a red suit.
Peter stood at the end of the ally. "Now where do you think you are going?" he asked her removed his mask.
"Time I disappeared." she frankly told him.
Behind her Steve Rodgers stepped out of the shadows wearing civilian clothing and a leather jacket. "I think you have done enough running, Edna."
Thor stepped out behind Peter. "I think the Avengers could use a healer."
"They don't need me." she shook her head.
Peter pleaded. "Yes we do. We're a mess."
Happy Hogan stepped out next. He wore his suit and stated, "Mr. Stark has asked me to bring you to your new office, Miss Casey."
"Stark! Doing what?" she asked.
"Avenger work." Peter told her.
Clint then exposed himself. "Come on, Eddy. You go out on your own and you could end up having Loki or worse after you."
She shivered at thought of Loki and his marriage proposal.
Peter pleaded, "Stay! Please. If it weren't for you, the Avengers would be a mess."
She stated, "Not so. In other realities they were all replaced by women."
"Um…" Thor winced. "How do I become a woman?"
Peter pleaded. "Please stay."
She looked around. She asked, "Do I get a life time supply of candy?"
Happy nodded, "Your blood glucose issue is addressed."
"Good Chocolate?" she asked.
"Belgian." he smiled brightly.
She nodded, "That stuff is good."
Peter pleaded once more. "Stay."
She paused in thought. "You guys sure you want something as old as me hanging around?"
Happy stated, "We don't consider you all that old."
"Just stay." Peter suggested.
"Okay." she gave in.
"Yes." he rushed over and hugged her tight.
Happy motioned, "I have your car waiting for you, Miss Casey."
"What about SHIELD?" she wondered. "They around still?"
"In some capacity." Happy told her.
Eddy looked at her new friends. "Thank you." she told them.
Peter shook his head and grinned. "Thank you for helping me, Eddy."
"But you never asked me to help." she countered.
"You helped me when you helped MJ." he told her. "Thank you for not walking out of that diner that night."
She gave a slow nod. "Thank you for helping me correct a massive mistake with Thanos. I never thought of just reversing what was done to him. I thought he was too far gone. You proved me wrong. Thank you, Peter Parker. I will always be grateful for you."
The End.
