I am now just one chapter away from the War Game and I can't wait. The story is going to change pretty significantly after that, both from a plot perspective, Hestia Familia perspective, as well as a change in Bell's team and his relationships. By that point, that last of Bell's serious romantic interests will also have been introduced. Not to say that Bell will stop winning people over and there are a few other things down the track, but most of the main players will have been introduced and had at least some of their character fleshed out.

Really at this point, the characters who are most developed are the ones in the tag, Syr, Ryuu, and Ais. As for Hestia and Freya, I really can't push them too much until a certain event in the story happens, as Bell still sees the deities as something beyond him.

Enjoy!

SSJ3 Kyuubi Gohan.

Previously:
Bell would head to the fountain near the Dungeon, waiting for his party to arrive, being that of Lili and Horn of the Freya Familia. The trio would work their way down to the fifteenth floor of the Dungeon, stopping only briefly for lunch, where Bell would find himself up against a Minotaur, causing him to freeze. With Horn's assistance, Bell would defeat the Minotaur and the trio of Ligerfang, before the group exited the Dungeon. While Bell and Lili would exchange their items, Horn would return to Folkvangr and tell Freya of her day, not realising she still had Bell's robe of Salamander Wool, which Freya offered to return in her stead.

Chapter 20 – Status updates

'Now seating one, VIP.' Announced Syr cheerfully, as Bell entered the Hostess of Fertility later that night.

'Syr, you don't have to do that.' Whined Bell, causing Syr to giggle.

'Uh-uh, you are a customer right now, Bell, which means you will be treated as one. We all agree, you are our exclusive VIP customer, you are our mascot after all.' Teased Syr, wagging her finger at him admonishingly, causing Bell to smile, the energetic girl then leading him to the bar.

'What will you be having tonight?' Asked Syr.

'Could I have some pasta and meatballs?' Requested Bell, causing Syr to pout.

'You know, Bell, that's the cheapest thing on the menu, how am I supposed to earn a tip this way?' Chided Syr.

'I have to give you a tip anyway for lunch.' Countered Bell, causing Syr to smile.

'Oh, did you like it?' Asked Syr, to which Bell nodded.

'Yeah, I was thinking we could maybe make some stir-fry tomorrow, so I can give you some ideas.' Answered Bell, placing the small lunch box on the counter beside him, the box washed, and the napkin neatly folded on top.

'That sounds like fun, I'll make sure your pasta is right out then.' Replied Syr happily, before running off.

Riveria had seen a great deal in her life. She was almost a hundred after all. That being said, she doubted she had ever seen something so baffling before. Udaeus was now half a fractured skull and two cracked ribs. The monster had been basically worn down to a nub of itself. It's ten metre frame was now gone, standing at a paltry one and a half metres, its eyes now being level with Ais'.

Ais, her former student.

Ais had clearly changed. Riveria couldn't deny that.

Had this been the Ais Riveria knew, she would still have expected Ais to win, but she would have been far more injured. Her right arm was still largely limp, but she could move her fingers now at least. Based on the battle that had just unfolded, to an amateur, Ais could have been mistaken as being left-handed. Her strikes had slowly worn down Udaeus, even without her using her dominant hand.

Once Udaeus lost its left hand, in addition to its right arm, the outcome was inevitable. Ais was patient though. Not taking a single hit. Slowly grinding down the large bony arm. Every strike was dodged, with incremental damage being piled on top. First the forearm had been snapped, then the upper arm was pulverised. The ribs continually tried to get in Ais' way, trying to counter her with their sharp edges, only for Ais to backpedal and charge again. Rib after rib was broken, until Ais had focused on the head. The monster tried to crush Ais entirely, dropping its entire body on top of her, only for Ais to surrounded herself in her wind and face it head on.

The words "Lil Rafaga" did not pass Ais' lips often, but the result was always awe-inspiring. The body was shattered by the attack, no match for the pressure of Ais' attack. Now, the blonde stood with her sword poised over the magic stone, before it was pierced. Bone dissolved into ash and Ais exhaled calmly.

'We can go back now.' Spoke Ais quietly.

Riveria heard it though. The floor was otherwise empty, so even Ais' soft words sounded booming. Riveria sighed and cast her healing magic on the girl who had stubbornly fought Udaeus alone. She hadn't self-destructed, but Riveria couldn't say she approved of her actions. It was understandable. Anyone could see Ais had stagnated, her stats only rising a miniscule amount each stat update. She had hit her ceiling. It was clear.

So Ais shattered the ceiling.

'So should we go find Loki once we get back?' Asked Riveria, as the pair started their trek back.

'Could we make one stop first?' Inquired Ais, causing Riveria to raise an eyebrow.

'By the time we reach the surface it will be quite late.' Pointed out Riveria.

'It won't take long.' Pressed Ais, causing Riveria to sigh.

'Fine then, but we should pick up the pace then, will you be okay keeping up?' Asked Riveria, only for Ais to nod.

'Then let us make haste.' Suggested Riveria, with the pair picking up speed.

-line break-

'So how was your day in the Dungeon, Bell?' Asked Syr, sitting beside Bell with a small vegetable stew May had made tonight, her apron on the counter beside her.

'Well, I went down to the fifteenth floor today.' Started Bell, with Syr nodding along.

'It was different. I think Miss Eina was right, for my current level, the monsters aren't that much stronger… but they are dangerous in other ways.' Continued Bell, before Syr interjected.

'Dangerous how?' Asked Syr, taking a spoon of her stew.

'Well, we got ambushed by two dozen Hellhounds at one point. I was able to cut them down quickly after that, but if we didn't have the special clothes Miss Eina told me to buy, we would have been finished.' Answered Bell, causing Syr to set her spoon down.

'Oh, that reminds me, someone dropped something off for you.' Exclaimed Syr, before running off to the storeroom and returning with Bell's robe made of Salamander Wool.

'Ah, did Horn drop this off?' Asked Bell, only for Syr to shrug.

'I didn't see who dropped it off, so I'm not sure. Is Horn the newest member of your party?' Asked Syr curiously, seating herself beside Bell once again.

'No, it was just for the day. I don't think I really have a party either. I've only gone to the Dungeon once before with Lili, I don't think that is a party.' Commented Bell, absentmindedly pushing the remnants of his pasta with his fork.

'Are you thinking of making one?' Asked Syr curiously, causing the boy to sigh, letting his fork rest on the plate with a soft clatter.

'I don't know. I don't really have a goal in mind at the moment, I'm just trying to get stronger. I don't think a lot of people would like to go into the Dungeon for a pointless reason. The Dungeon is dangerous after all.' Explained Bell quietly.

'Is everything okay, was there something bad that happened?' Asked Syr softly, placing her hand on his forearm.

'I… I froze today. We ran into a Minotaur… and even though I know I can beat it, and I did… I froze. If it wasn't for Horn, I might have got Lili or myself hurt. She held it back long enough for me to get myself back together, even though she almost got hurt herself. If I didn't pull her out of the way of another attack... so, I don't think it is fair to ask people to go into the Dungeon with me if I am freezing up. They might get hurt.' Continued Bell, looking down at the counter.

'There is nothing wrong with being scared every now and again, the important point is not to sulk about it.' Interjected Mama Mia, bringing out a pot of tea, with Ryuu coming to sit on Bell's other side, also taking her apron off.

'That is correct, Bell. There is nothing wrong with being afraid. It is just one more challenge to be conquered.' Added Ryuu, pouring herself some tea.

'Would you like to go into the Dungeon together again?' Asked Ryuu quietly, only for Bell to shake his head.

'I think I'll take a break tomorrow and come by here instead, maybe another time, thanks Ryuu.' Said Bell, politely refusing the offer, causing Ryuu to nod.

'Does that mean we can make some stir-fry tomorrow then?' Asked Syr, causing Bell to smile at her bubbly request.

'Of course. I better go home for now though. Goddess was so tired she was still asleep when I left this morning, I hope she is okay. Thanks for the food and your time.' Replied Bell, before standing himself up and leaving.

'Ryuu, do you really think Bell is okay?' Asked Syr curiously.

'It seems so. The Dungeon is not an easy entity to face, especially early on, and even more so alone. Bell simply needs more supports and time. He will only grow stronger with this.' Appraised Ryuu, taking a sip of her tea.

Syr nodded, but her mind was processing things quickly. Bell was still alone, in numerous senses of the word. While Ryuu would go with him on occasion and both Lili and Horn had joined Bell today, more often than not, Bell was venturing in alone.

Syr wondered if Bell would do better in the Freya Familia after all, with others to support him, before tossing that idea away quickly.

They would not support him.

Not in the way he needed.

Bell was a lustrous orb that needed to be maintained, but also given space to shine. It could shine even brighter with others, but it was also small enough that it could be smothered. Bell's soul still shined brightly, but it was perhaps slightly dimmer today. Today had been difficult for him. Syr needed to figure out a way to help him.

Her answer then walked through the door, looking rather ragged.

'Miss Ais? What are you doing here? With Miss Riveria as well.' Greeted Syr, as the pair entered the almost empty establishment.

'Apologies for the late hour, Ais insisted we stop by.' Sighed Riveria, meeting Mama Mia's eye line.

'As long as you leave soon. Kitchen is closing up and this isn't a meetup site, this is a restaurant.' Said Mia gruffly, before walking off.

'Is Bell here?' Asked Ais, getting the three to look at her.

'No, he wasn't working today, he went into the Dungeon, he has gone home for now, but will be here tomorrow.' Explained Syr.

Ais' lips furrowed slightly, before smoothing out again.

'I will come by for breakfast tomorrow then.' Declared Ais, giving a small nod, before turning to leave.

Riveria paused, her eyes looking to Ryuu, who looked like a deer in the headlights as the Elf observed her, her cup of tea partway to her lips.

'I shall come by as well then.' Declared Riveria, surprising the three, before turning to leave as well.

'Are you okay, Ryuu?' Asked Syr, once the pair had left.

'Yes. I will do the morning shopping tomorrow if you don't mind switching turns with me, Syr.' Requested Ryuu, only for Syr to nod.

'Sure thing. I better get going soon then, since I'll have to help out with the breakfast rush.' Replied Syr, before taking her bowl to the sink.

-line break-

'Why are you coming tomorrow?' Asked Ais of Riveria, as the two returned to Twilight Manor.

'I need to confirm something. I won't be long.' Answered Riveria, appeasing Ais for the moment.

'Ais, you're home!' Greeted Tiona, lunging at Ais with a hug the moment she crossed the threshold of Twilight Manor.

'Is Loki around?' Asked Ais.

'She's still passed out drunk, rough day yesterday it seems.' Commented Tione, joining the group, Finn beside her.

'Well, Riveria, anything to report?' Asked Finn knowingly.

'I'm sure there will be, but we will find out tomorrow if Loki is still out cold.' Replied Riveria.

'Well, if it is warranted, we could wake her up…' Said Finn leadingly, seeing Ais eyes light up.

'It would be. Go take a bath first, Ais.' Conceded Riveria, cutting the blonde off before she could race to the room of their Goddess.

Ais pouted slightly, causing Tiona to hug her tighter and give a small giggle, before releasing the girl.

Ais quickly made her way to the female baths and scrubbed herself clean. She was excited, even as her face remained even, she moved with an extra bounce in her step. The girl eagerly made her way to the room of her Goddess and knocked on the door.

'Come in, Ais.' Announced Riveria.

The blonde entered the room and noted Loki looked grumpy, in addition to the dozen bottles of wine scattered around the area.

'Ah, Ais… and Riveria. I need to warn you about that bunny.' Grumbled Loki, holding her head, struggling to open her eyes.

'Bunny?' Asked Ais curiously.

'The bunny wants a harem. He's coming for both of you, I know it!' Yelped Loki, a particularly persistent ray of light piercing her eyes, causing her to wince.

'Loki, you are drunk. Can you pull yourself together for a few minutes to update Ais' status?' Sighed Riveria.

'I'm serious! Freya told me! The Gulliver Brothers want to fight Finn as well!' Exclaimed Loki.

'Do I need to get a bucket of water?' Asked Riveria threateningly, only for Loki to groan and clutch her head.

'No one listens to me anymore because they think I am drunk. Just because I happen to be drunk, doesn't mean I am lying. First Bete, now you too.' Griped Loki in irritation.

'Maybe you should learn to drink in moderation then.' Sniped Riveria, causing Loki to huff.

'Fine, I'll think about it. So, what did you wake me up for anyway?' Asked Loki grumpily.

'You need to update Ais' status.' Said Riveria simply.

'Eh? You woke me for that? Couldn't it wait until the morning?' Whined Loki.

'No.' Piped up Ais, causing Loki to sit up straighter, blinking her eyes a few times.

'Well come on then.' Sighed Loki, as Ais immediately turned around and bared her back.

Riveria and Loki were both surprised at how eager Ais seemed, usually sending Loki a few biting remarks before updating her status to make sure she didn't get handsy, but there was no warning this time.

Loki pricked her finger and unlocked Ais' Falna, before sorting through it. Loki felt herself becoming giddy as she watched Ais' fight, before going still in surprise. Loki finished updating the status, before grabbing a piece of paper.

'Level six Ais is here!' Cheered Loki loudly, causing Ais to smile.

She had done it!

Ais redressed herself and took her final level five status sheet from Loki.

'I fought Udaeus left-handed for a while.' Replied Ais simply, before standing up from the bed and handing Riveria the status sheet, before leaving.

'Did… wait… how drunk was I when I updated her status… that was Ais left-handed?' Muttered Loki in disbelief.

'Honestly Loki, your drinking is too much sometimes.' Chided Riveria.

'Ah, you people don't listen to me anyway, so why shouldn't I get drunk? I need to celebrate!' Cheered Loki, causing Riveria to sigh.

Hestia awoke with a jolt. She had no sense of time at the moment, but Bell was wearing his pyjamas.

'Good morning Bell!' Greeted Hestia, startling Bell.

'Goddess, you're awake!' Cheered Bell, before hugging Hestia, surprising her.

'Yeah, did you miss me so much, it's only been a few hours.' Giggled Hestia, only for Bell to pull back.

'Goddess, it is ten in the evening, you slept all day.' Explained Bell, causing the Goddess' jaw to drop.

'R-Really? Stammered Hestia, causing Bell to nod.

'Hehe, I guess I was more tired than I thought.' Admitted Hestia.

'What were you doing these past few days, Goddess?' Asked Bell.

Hestia smirked, ready to unveil the fruits of her love, only to realise something.

"I never picked up the knife!" Mentally shouted Hestia in dismay.

'Ah, it's a surprise, I will need to go pick it up.' Admitted Hestia, before realising something.

'But why don't I update your status, I don't think I have even once since you became level two, and you did go into the Dungeon today.' Continued Hestia, mentally patting herself on the back.

'Oh, that's right, I forgot too. Please update my status, Goddess.' Requested Bell, before taking off his shirt and lying down.

'You've been working hard it seems.' Commented Hestia as she sat on his bottom, noting his back was definitely wider since she last saw it.

'Do you think so? That's good, I wasn't sure I was making much progress.' Admitted Bell.

Hestia removed her glove and pricked her finger, before unlocking Bell's Falna. Hestia's eyes widened. He had gone into the Dungeon more than once and he had faced a lot. Hestia sighed softly seeing his trip with Ryuu, seeing the girl had kept him safe as she promised, making her wonder if she could get her to join her Familia somehow, before zipping through the next few days. The new supporter seemed odd to Hestia. The fact that she was an Elf having nothing to do with it. Not one bit. Then she had seen Freya's child. The flickers of hostility seemed to be tempered, but she got the sense that she didn't like Bell. Hestia couldn't help but frown. Other than Ryuu, Bell really was alone. She'd have to speak with Hephaestus again. At least he would have an excellent weapon by his side, but he really needed comrades it seemed. The numbers were still unbelievable to Hestia, even seeing that he had beaten two Infant Dragons alone and a third with Ryuu's assistance, not to mention the other monsters on the middle floors.

'All done. You really are working hard, Bell.' Repeated Hestia, handing him the sheet.

Bell looked over his status sheet curiously.

'My endurance stat is really low.' Commented Bell.

'Well other than a few hits here and there, almost nothing has hit you in the past few days, so it would make sense. You might need to do some training with your Sword Princess or Elf waitress to raise it.' Pointed out Hestia.

'Oh, maybe Miss Ais is back from her trip to the Dungeon. I'll check tomorrow.' Agreed Bell with a nod.

Bell yawned, only for Hestia to pout.

'Now you're going to go to sleep and leave me all by myself.' Whined Hestia, only for Bell to chuckle weakly.

'Well… why don't we read some of that story together then?' Suggested Bell, causing Hestia to bounce into the air happily.

'Yes, good idea!' Cheered Hestia, before finding the book and sitting on the bed.

'At least come lie down here next to me, you wouldn't want me to yell.' Suggested Hestia, seeing Bell sitting on the sofa.

Bell nodded, blinking his eyes sleepily for a minute, before lying down on the bed beside the seated Hestia.

'The rise and fall of the Fairy Valkyrie. In a world torn between justice and injustice, there existed a fairy. This fairy had very strong convictions, so much so that she became a symbol of justice herself in the eyes of many. Tragedy struck this fairy though, and she descended into darkness, in order to purge the injustice of the world. This is her story.' Read Hestia softly.

Bell was intermittently closing his eyes as he listened. Hestia's storytelling was different than his grandfather, Bell noted. While his grandfather maintained a more playful tone, with lots of rises, Hestia's tone was more measured and sombre. The story had started happy enough, but it became clear that there was something coming up ahead. Hestia's voice seemed to slow a bit, as she read of the fairy losing all of her comrades and losing herself into rage, falling into darkness. The story ended on a hopeful note, of a lone woman reaching out a hand to the fallen fairy, giving her a chance to start anew. Hestia closed the book, before looking back at the author section.

In memory of a heroine of justice who lost herself. May she find her way again one day.

Hestia frowned, looking at the signature of the author.

Frigg.

Hestia noted a hint of light penetrating through the roof of the basement, causing her to sigh. She should get some sleep while she could. Hestia set the book down and stroked Bell's hair softly, before lying down beside him, falling asleep shortly after.

-line break-

Bell woke the next morning and noticed his Goddess asleep beside him. Tucking some more blankets around her, Bell quickly got up and headed out to the Hostess of Fertility.

'Good morning Bell!' Greeted Syr as soon as Bell walked through the door, causing him to smile.

'Morning Syr.' Greeted Bell in return.

'You just missed Miss Ais yesterday, she was looking for you.' Informed Syr, causing Bell to smile.

'Miss Ais is back? That's great.' Cheered Bell, causing Syr to pout.

'You never sound that excited to see me Bell, you'll make me jealous.' Teased Syr, only for Bell to smile softly.

'I'm always excited to see you, Syr. I was just talking with Goddess yesterday though since we updated my status. I was hoping to get Ryuu or Miss Ais to train me a bit since my endurance is so low in comparison.' Explained Bell, causing Syr to narrow her eyes.

'Bell, you're not a secret masochist, are you?' Asked Syr leadingly, causing Bell to blush.

'N-No, why have both you and Goddess asked me that?' Pouted Bell, causing Syr to giggle.

'Well Bell, since two different people are asking, maybe there is something to it.' Pressed Syr.

'Well it is safer to be hurt by my friends up here than by monsters down there.' Rationalised Bell, getting a nod from Syr.

'That's fair I suppose. I just don't want you to get hurt at all if you can help it.' Admitted Syr, causing Bell to smile as he walked over to Syr and gave her a hug.

'I know, but you said I am your hero, a hero gets hurt, so I need to keep getting stronger.' Whispered Bell, causing Syr to giggle.

'You sound so manly today, Bell. Poor Chloe will be in tears.' Joked Syr, hugging Bell back, before the pair leaned back.

'We should start getting ready then, I'll need to prepare something if Miss Ais is back. Where is Ryuu though?' Asked Bell.

'Sick of me already?' Teased Syr, causing Bell to pout.

'I'm just teasing, Ryuu is out buying supplies with Chloe today.' Explained Syr, before breaking the embrace.

'I better go make something for all of us then, have you had breakfast yet, Syr?' Asked Bell, causing the girl to shake her head.

'Then maybe I can make us some pancakes today.' Offered Bell, before making his way to the kitchen.

While Bell busied himself, Syr continued setting up, greeting Mia as she arrived. Anya and Lunoire came down the stairs shortly after Mia had arrived, with a sleepy May joining them a few minutes later. Just as Syr went to sweep the front of the store, she saw Ais and Riveria standing outside.

'Well, good morning Miss Ais and Miss Riveria, you are here early.' Appraised Syr.

'Someone was very eager for breakfast.' Explained Riveria, sending Ais a glare, causing the girl to blush slightly.

'Well, Bell is getting breakfast ready, so why don't you join us while we continue setting up?' Suggested Syr.

Riveria looked to politely decline, only for Ais to nod and enter the establishment, causing her to sigh.

'Oh Bell, we have special customers for you.' Called Syr, causing the boy to come out of the kitchen.

'Miss Ais! Ah, and Miss Riveria too, would you like something to eat for breakfast? I did say I would treat you to a meal.' Greeted Bell.

Ais nodded and took a seat at the bar, with Riveria shaking her head in amusement, before following suit. A few minutes later, Bell placed down a pitcher of orange juice and a pot of tea, before bringing out a few plates filled with pancakes and various fruits to compliment them, as well as some jam and butter. Bell placed three plates down, one in front of Ais, Riveria, and Syr, before placing one in front of him. Ais quickly put a generous serving of butter on her pancake along with some honey, before cutting in to it, gratefully accepting a glass of orange juice from Bell.

Riveria watched on in disbelief at seeing the normally stoic and doll-like Ais, tear into her pancakes with ferocity. True, it had been a few days since they had a proper meal during their Dungeon crawl, having stayed slightly longer than expected due to Ais' persistence, but that didn't explain the sheer hunger Ais was displaying. Riveria put a small amount of butter on her pancakes and topped it with some strawberry jam, before taking a piece. Riveria now had some idea as to why Ais was so vicious. The pancake was delicious. Light and fluffy. It had clearly been prepared with care and cooked excellently. It would not be unfair to say that it was easy to make pancakes, but it would surely be difficult to make them this perfectly. Shape, texture, colour. Everything was perfect.

'I never thought I would see the day where Ais would want to eat something other than potato snacks, but even I can understand now.' Commented Riveria, causing Ais to pout.

'Haha, well I'm glad you approve of my cooking. I imagine someone like yourself must be used to all kinds of amazing things.' Replied Bell modestly, causing Riveria to smile.

'I see. I understand now why Ais was so excited to see you last night. Your cooking is splendid.' Continued Riveria, missing how Ais' cheeks reddened.

'Well, I agree Bell's food is spectacular, but maybe there was another reason Ais wanted to see Bell.' Teased Syr, causing Ais to blush even more.

'Oh yes, I agree. I don't suppose Miss Lion would be around anywhere; I was hoping to speak with her if possible.' Said Riveria.

'Ryuu is out shopping for supplies, I'm sorry, but I'm not sure when she will be back, Miss Riveria.' Replied Syr.

'Ah, that is a shame. Well, I will leave you to it then, I think Ais had more she wanted to discuss. I shall return home for now.' Commented Riveria, before leaving, giving Bell a nod as she left.

The jade haired Elf did indeed leave, but she did not return home as she had said, instead, making her way to the market district. She wanted to speak with Ryuu, and she would see to it that she would have an opportunity to do so. She knew that Elf would try to hide away from her, but she doubted she would be expecting to be tracked down in public. Chloe and Ryuu had just turned the corner and spotted Riveria standing in the middle of their path. Ryuu froze again, her instinct to run warring with her desire to not be disrespectful.

'Hello, Miss Lion, do you mind if I accompany you back to the Hostess of Fertility. I was hoping to speak with you.' Greeted Riveria.

'O-Of course.' Agreed Ryuu.

'Why don't I go on ahead then? I'm sure our mascot is there by now.' Offered Chloe, leaving before Ryuu could protest, leaving the two Elves alone.

'How have you been, Miss Ryuu?' Asked Riveria.

'I have been well, Lady Riveria.' Replied Ryuu, causing Riveria to sigh.

'Please don't do that. I will return to the Hostess of Fertility with you.' Advised Riveria, before turning and starting to walk away slowly.

Ryuu followed and came to stand one step behind her, only for Riveria to lag behind, so they now walked side by side.

'What can you tell me about Bell Cranel?' Asked Riveria.

'He is a good person. I will not say anything more than that.' Intoned Ryuu quietly.

'I see. Enough for you to risk yourself?' Asked Riveria.

'Very much so.' Answered Ryuu firmly, causing Riveria to hum.

'I see.' Commented Riveria.

The two walked in silence after that until they reached the restaurant.

'Please come to me if you wish to speak. If you plan to treat me like a princess rather than a friend, I need to look after my subjects, although I hope you can see me as a friend one day. You deserve at least that much with what you achieved.' Spoke Riveria softly, causing Ryuu to look away.

'If I should dirty the Alf Princess, I would never be able to live with myself.' Whispered Ryuu, before entering the restaurant, Riveria sighing as she followed.

'Ah, Ryuu, you're back, I saved you some pancakes.' Greeted Bell, the first to spot Ryuu.

It was only for a moment, but Riveria saw the Elf's eyes lighten, her face softening slightly, before returning to a neutral expression. Riveria looked to Ais and Syr, before looking to Bell.

"Was Loki serious…" Thought Riveria, narrowing her eyes slightly, seeing how happy the three were being near Bell.

"I will need to look into this." Resolved Riveria.

'I am ready to go now, Riveria.' Declared Ais, standing from the stool she was seated on.

'All done with your news?' Asked Riveria, only for Ais to blush.

'News?' Asked Bell in confusion, causing Riveria to raise an eyebrow.

'I will tell you later today.' Muttered Ais, before moving to Riveria and dragging her out of the restaurant, much to Riveria's amusement.

'Oh? Lose your nerve?' Asked Riveria.

'It wasn't the right time.' Answered Ais, confusing Riveria.

'What do you mean?' Asked Riveria.

'Bell is worried about something.' Remarked Ais softly, causing Riveria to look at her in amusement.

"So not only triggering emotions, but the boy can also make Ais read other people's emotions. Truly fascinating." Thought Riveria, as the two returned to Twilight Manor.

-line break-

Ais had been working up her nerve all day since leaving. She had taken her sword along with her and done some light training on the walls of Orario, trying to get used to her new speed. She wasn't sure how she was going to broach the topic with Bell, both very excited to tell him the good news, but also, concerned. Would he be upset that she had levelled up as well? Was she stealing his accomplishment by levelling up so soon after he did?

Ais shook her head. Bell wasn't like that.

Ais smiled again, before frowning.

'Yes, Bell isn't like that, but he doesn't seem like himself.' Muttered Ais quietly, watching a small bird soar through the sky with exhilarating speed, before disappearing behind a few buildings.

'Ah, Miss Ais, sorry for being late, I wanted to make sure I didn't leave many dishes behind before leaving.' Apologised Bell, appearing on the walls behind Ais.

Ais smiled. There is no way Bell would be upset with her, but she wanted to hear about his issues first.

'What is wrong?' Asked Ais, sitting down with her back against the wall, patting the spot next to her.

Bell sighed before moving to sit beside Ais.

'I froze in the Dungeon the other day. It was another Minotaur.' Admitted Bell.

'So you were scared.' Commented Ais simply, to which Bell nodded.

Ais leaned her head backwards, looking up at the sky.

'It's okay to be scared and even okay to run, but if you see another Minotaur, will you freeze again?' Asked Ais.

'I'm not sure, that's what worries me. I was able to snap out of after a bit… but I was still really on edge.' Answered Bell, bringing his knees up to his chest, wrapping his arms around them.

'There are two options. The first, you take your time training and getting stronger and eventually you will realise you are stronger than you were before.' Started Ais, causing Bell to look at her, her gaze still skyward.

'What's the other option?' Asked Bell.

'You face another Minotaur. Then another, and another, and another, until you are no longer scared of them.' Finished Ais, causing Bell to wince.

'I'll admit, I'd probably prefer the first option.' Admitted Bell, causing Ais to nod.

'Which is fine, the second option is quicker, not necessarily better. I would be happy to help you until you feel ready, but we will need to keep things a secret. Riveria has some idea… but now we will be training every day with no set time to stop, so it will be even harder for her to not say anything about it if someone asks.' Explained Ais.

'Are you sure it is okay? To risk getting into trouble for me?' Asked Bell, causing Ais to smile.

Yes, Bell would be happy for her, it was foolish to ever think otherwise.

'I am not doing this only for you. Training you helps me as well. Seeing how you use your knives has given me some unorthodox ideas.' Whispered Ais, causing Bell to laugh.

'You learned something from me?' Asked Bell in amused disbelief.

'Well, I never would have thought to try and fight Udaeus with my left hand. If that's the case, I may not have become level six.' Continued Ais, only for Bell to sit up straight.

'You levelled up? Congratulations Miss Ais!' Exclaimed Bell, smiling brightly.

'Thank you.' Replied Ais, quietly enjoying basking in Bell's happiness for her.

He really was too kind to be an adventurer. That is why she would help him. No one else would.

'So why don't we start our training again now?' Suggested Ais, before standing up.

'Okay, but we shouldn't take too long, Syr and I made some lunch together, so I brought some along for you.' Agreed Bell, placing a box down beside him, before standing to his feet.

Bell drew his knives and Ais noted they were different. Bell took his stance and Ais picked up her sheathe, preparing to attack. Bell rushed at her with surprising speed and Ais raised her sheathe to block. His power had increased too. Ais pushed him back and spun a slow back kick towards him, only for him to leap back. His reactions had also improved.

Ais then charged towards him. Then his body hit the floor.

Ais blinked. She had moved too fast and hit him too hard. He was out cold.

"Just when I thought I was getting the hang of holding back." Whined Ais internally, the miniature version of herself panicking.

"I need to speak with Riveria again." Thought Ais in dismay, before sitting beside Bell, placing the small box he had brought with him on her lap and opening it up.

It was split into two sections, fresh rice on one, grilled meat and stir-fried vegetables on the other. Ais took a small piece and smiled. It was delicious as expected.

Back at the Hostess of Fertility, another person was enjoying Bell's cooking, but this time it was Ryuu.

'So what do you think? Good right?' Asked Syr eagerly.

'It is.' Admitted Ryuu, causing Syr to beam.

'Bell taught me a new way to make it.' Explained Syr.

Anya felt a bead of sweat go down her neck, before deciding to taste the food as well. Ryuu was brave. Braver than her. It was lucky that Bell had probably done everything this time instead of Syr. Anya breathed out in relief when she didn't feel any sharp pain in her stomach and continued to eat the stir-fry.

'Ah, that reminds me, that cutie did tell me I need to bring Tsubaki by for dinner today. Apparently his new knife is really good.' Added Chloe, eating some grilled fish beside Ryuu.

Ryuu looked over to Lunoire, only to see her nod. It seemed like Bell's gloves were now ready as well.

'Who is Tsubaki?' Asked Syr curiously, causing Anya and Chloe to flinch.

'Just a blacksmith… she isn't a fan of cute boys like Chloe, and she definitely isn't getting Bell to call her Big Sis.' Spluttered Anya, only for Chloe to whack her tail, causing her to yelp.

'Oh my, I guess I will need to see this Tsubaki myself then.' Commented Syr.

Bell woke to see Ais eating the last of her lunch.

'Was I out long?' Asked Bell groggily, rubbing his right eye.

'Half an hour. Not too long.' Informed Ais, causing Bell to sit up.

'Can you tell me about your trip to the Dungeon then? I don't think it is a good idea to train right after eating and I'm still a bit dizzy.' Requested Bell.

Ais nodded with a small smile, before weighing up how much to tell him. Ais wasn't sure how much she wanted to say, but she trusted Bell. He would never do anything to harm her. He was very naïve though and could be used. Ais decided she would tell him almost everything… everything but one key detail.

'Well, we first made our way down to Rivira on the eighteenth floor.' Started Ais, only for Bell's eyes to widen.

'Just like that? Did you have any Salamander Wool?' Asked Bell, causing Ais to pause.

'Uh… we don't really use it. The Hellhounds are too slow to catch us.' Admitted Ais, only for Bell to laugh softly.

'I forgot how amazing you are, of course you wouldn't need to worry about monsters on the middle floors.' Muttered Bell softly.

Mini-Ais panicked, not sure what to do, so actual Ais settled for what Riveria had done for her in the past, placing her hand over Bell's.

'You are still growing and learning. You don't need to rush. You will become stronger.' Repeated Ais, causing Bell to smile.

'Thanks… I guess I lost sight of my goal for a second there, you're right.' Agreed Bell, giving Ais a smile which she returned.

'In Rivira, we were helping investigate a murder.' Continued Ais, only for Bell to interrupt again.

'Someone was murdered? Like by a person, not a monster?' Asked Bell.

Ais had to pause at this question. Were they a person and not a monster? It was hard to say.

'Yes. Hashana Dorlia, we found his corpse at an inn in Rivira.' Explained Ais, only to see Bell's shocked expression.

'Mister Hashana is dead?' Asked Bell, causing Ais to blink in surprise.

'Did you know him?' Asked Ais curiously, to which Bell nodded.

'He was the first adventurer I met when I came to Orario. He told me how to become an adventurer and where the Guild was so I could register… actually, that was the first day I saw you as well. I thought you were a real princess.' Recalled Bell, causing Ais to look off to the side.

"Princess? Me?" Thought Ais, looking down at her hands thoughtfully.

'Riveria is an actual princess, mine is just a title.' Muttered Ais after a minute.

'So did you find out what happened to Mister Hashana then? Was it really a person and not a monster?' Asked Bell.

Ais was grateful for the topic change but also didn't know how to respond to that accurately.

'It seemed to be a person, but it was not someone recognisable to us.' Decided Ais, finding a middle ground.

Bell seemed to frown at this but nodded, causing Ais to move on.

'We came back up after that and we saw you in the Dungeon… then we let the Guild know what happened and went back down, going to the White Palace. We stayed down there for a few days to collect magic stones and drop items. After that, I stayed behind with Riveria so I could face the Monster Rex Udaeus.' Continued Ais.

'So you fought it alone?' Asked Bell, his mouth open in surprise, only for Ais to nod bashfully.

'That's amazing.' Whispered Bell, before he scrunched up his face thoughtfully.

'Weren't you tired though? All those days in the White Palace, did you even have a chance to sleep?' Asked Bell, causing Ais to realise how tired she was.

Ais gave a small yawn and covered her mouth.

'It is important to learn how to take a nap in the Dungeon. Even just five minutes can make a huge difference. Why don't we do some nap training today?' Suggested Ais.

'Uh, are you feeling sleepy, Miss Ais?' Asked Bell, causing Ais to look off to the side as she blushed.

'It is training.' Reiterated Ais, causing Bell to smile awkwardly.

'Okay then, I guess.' Agreed Bell, before both of them made themselves comfortable and tried to fall asleep.
