Lissa watched as her crewmates pulled the mysterious man onto their ship. His clothes were torn, and he was covered in blood. It was hard to believe he was even alive. She knew he would wish for death when he woke up. After all, the crew she was on didn't save people out of goodwill, they saved them to sell them to traders.
As she watched them take the unconscious man inside to chain him up, she didn't spare even a second glance at the wreckage in the ocean. For Lissa, she just didn't care what happened to him or any man. She hardly even cared what happened to herself anymore.
"What's that?" Raldie asked from her position by the railing of the boat.
Amneza paused in her writing to see what the girl was referring to. Brushing her mint green hair from her face, she found that the water was floating with debris. "A shipwreck. We should change direction, so we don't run into more debris."
"There's a body in the water," Roy, Raldie's twin brother joined them.
The two girls looked in the direction he pointed to see a large man floating, holding onto some of the debris.
"Poor human drowned," Raldie commented. Though her voice held no actual pity. Not abnormal for the young girl, after all, she loathed humans. "This is why we're superior."
"We would also drown without our skins," Amneza told her, standing on the railing. "And he's not dead. He's pale but still has color. He's just unconscious. Roy turn the ship to starboard," she ordered before diving into the water, placing her hood on her head as she did so.
The moment she cut into the water her form changed from that of a woman, to that of a seal-human hybrid. She was fast, reaching the man in no time. It was impressive that he was alive honestly. He had clearly been in a battle and lost.
Luckily for him she was used to rescuing people in water. Even ones several times her size. Using the debris to continue holding the man, she pushed him gently to her ship. "Throw down a rope," she popped out of the water to tell the twins.
Raldie looked at her defiantly. Not unexpected to be honest. Roy thankfully was much more well-behaved. He threw a rope which she tied around his mid-section. Then she launched herself back onto the boat, transforming back into her human form mid-air.
The real issue would be pulling the man onto the ship. They had her strength, and Roy's. Raldie would never help a human. "Pull him. I might be able to lift if you're pulling," Roy suggested. Amneza looked at him confused, but obliged nevertheless.
She pulled the rope as Roy moved his arms and body. As he did, slowly, she could feel push of the rope. She continued to slowly pull, while Roy apparently pushed. Eventually they managed to get the man on the ship. As soon as they did, Roy fell onto the deck, exhausted.
"You okay?" Amneza asked him.
"Yeah. Just need to rest," he answered her between breaths of air.
Nodding she checked on the man, tending to his wounds. It was a bit later when he finally woke up. "You're awake. Sorry the boat isn't very large, so I couldn't take you inside."
The man looked down at her, processing what she said. His gaze went around the small boat, taking in information about his location and status. "Was there anyone else alive?"
"We save your life and you don't even thank us?" Raldie scoffed.
"Raldie!" Amneza scolded her before turning back to the man. "Judging by the debris, you floated away from the original wreck. There were no other bodies around. A storm happened in the area relatively recently. I'm Amneza. What's your name?"
"Jean Bart. Thank you for helping me."
Amneza nodded her head. "We can take you to the next island with us. Might not be where you were headed originally, but at least you won't be floating in the ocean anymore."
"That is greatly appreciated. Thank you."
"Let me get you something to eat. By the way, what crew are you from?" she asked as she turned to head inside the cabin.
"The Heart Pirates."
Amneza stopped, her hand on the door. "Where was the original shipwreck?"
"Off the shores of Winner Island."
They weren't close to Winner Island. "I see." She entered the cabin, attempting to push down the feelings that were boiling within her.
Ikkaku opened her eyes to the smell of something cooking. She grunted slightly at the pain radiating through her body. Slowly sitting up she saw she was in a cave with a fire roasting some fish. Someone had bandaged her up with scraps of clothing. Looking across the way she could see a familiar person.
"Shachi?"
He looked up, his face haunted. "You're the only one I could rescue after the storm." She remembered the storm. After their defeat at the hands of Blackbeard, a storm came through. The crew had been unable to handle it. "Hopefully Bepo got away with the captain."
She couldn't say a word. The Heart Pirates were in shambles. Separated with who knew how many of them dead. "Here eat," Shachi handed her a fish. "We need to regain our energy."
Ikkaku didn't take the fish. She also wanted to push away Shachi. Of everyone she could have been stuck with. Did he even understand their situation? He was too calm. Their crew was over, and he was acting like it was no big deal.
"Ikkaku-"
"Don't talk to me." She was stuck with the last person she ever wanted to be stuck with in the crew.
Law slowly opened his eyes to see a hospital ceiling above him. He turned his head to look around, finding Bepo asleep in a chair. "Bepo," he said calmly.
The mink woke up, blearily looking at Law. After a moment he realized Law was awake, immediately bursting into tears. "Captain!" he hugged Law despite their injuries.
"Bepo that hurts."
"I'm sorry captain!" He let go of Law.
"The crew. Where are they?" He watched Bepo look down at the floor.
"I've kept a look out, but I haven't seen any of them. I'm sorry captain."
"I see." Law laid back on the bed, looking up at the ceiling. He felt an iciness inside, and not a single tear to come.
