Welcome back to Elemental Crisis Book III. Last time, after Martian Manhunter shorted out General Luthor's Warsuit, the traitorous Dark Knight revealed his ace in the hole, an injector filled with the Doomsday Virus. Using it on himself turned General Luthor into a hulking monstrosity that seemed to be unstoppable. But that's when Superman stepped up, strangely confident. And sure enough when General Luthor tried to attack, Superman finally mastered the Element of Wind, revealing he'd realized the reason it wasn't working for him. He was deliberately holding back his strength, like he does with all his other powers due to the whole "world made of cardboard" thing. Things seem to be wrapping up now. What's going to happen next? Read on to discover...
(Our scene resumes as we left it, with Superman and his newly mastered Element of Wind battling the Doomsday Virus enhanced General Luthor while everybody else tries to handle Myriad and the army of drones. While the vast majority of the team is battling the drones, Supergirl has her focus on Myriad, trying to get her out of General Luthor's control)
Supergirl: There's got to be a way to help you!
Myriad: At this rate? There is. Just kill me.
Supergirl: (Secretly hoping there's part of that version of Alex Danvers still in there) I won't trade lives.
Myriad: You said the same thing on my world. And it got you killed. Looks like history will repeat itself.
(With that, Myriad pulls out her Kryptonite sword and goes in to strike Supergirl with it, but something flashes behind Supergirl's eyes in that moment and she blocks the descending sword, the impact pushing her into the ground, leaving Myriad confused)
Myriad: What? This doesn't make sense. How do you have your strength?! This entire blade is made of KRYPTONITE!
Supergirl: (Looking up at Myriad with eyes aglow with the Element of Earth) There's more than one kind of strength...
(As Myriad finally realizes what is happening, Supergirl uses her new strength of Earth to throw off the Kryptonite sword, before holding Myriad in what looks like a bear hug)
Myriad: What are you doing?!
Supergirl: Trying to help you!
(With that, Supergirl summons the Element of Earth from deep within her, sending its energy rocketing through Myriad, the green light catching the attention of everybody like they were Jay Gatsby staring across the bay.)
Martian Manhunter: (Unsure of what's happening) Kara?
(But when the light dissipates, Myriad and Supergirl are both still standing, but the army of drones circulating around the skies hold their positions, not firing on anything, as both Supergirl and Myriad hit the ground)
Myriad: That... hurt.
Supergirl: Note to self, never doing that again.
Myriad: But somehow, only my feet hurt from that. I don't even want to know what logic rendered the only pain in my feet of all places.
Cynder: What the heck was that?
Spyro: (Knowing enough theory of the Earth Element to take a guess) I'm not sure, but if it's what I thought it was, it was miraculous.
(At this point, General Luthor is the only one who's realized what Supergirl just did, and is pissed)
General Luthor: You little... I WON'T HAVE YOU STEAL MY VICTORY!
(General Luthor leaps at Supergirl, who forms an Earth barrier to keep the Doomsday Virus enhanced madman off of her. But just as General Luthor appears about to break through, Myriad grabs the Kryptonite sword and stabs him in the chest, much to his own surprise)
General Luthor: What the...?
Myriad: I don't know how that was possible, but whatever Kara Zor-El did has freed me from your control.
(With that, Myriad snaps her fingers and all the drones turn their attention to General Luthor)
Myriad: Your game is up, traitor.
General Luthor: You think you can stop me?! I AM INVINCIBLE!
(But at this exact moment, a familiar dark cloud manifests as Malefor enters the scene)
Malefor: I doubt that very highly, Luthor.
(Malefor levitates General Luthor off the ground using his Aether powers and stares him down)
Malefor: I do not tolerate treason. As you shall soon learn.
(At this point, the heroes on scene prepare to unleash their power on Malefor while he's distracted, but he notices them. Just as he's about to strike at them though, Myriad stops him)
Malefor: What is this? Don't tell me you're turning traitor too, Myriad!
Myriad: Of course not, Lord Malefor. I just believe a little amnesty is due. If it weren't for Kara Zor-El, I would still be in that traitor's command.
Malefor: (Looking down at Supergirl, who has just dispelled her Earth barrier) You honestly chose to save one of my Dark Knights?
Supergirl: I don't trade lives if I can avoid it.
Malefor: A naive sentiment. (Looking back to General Luthor with a sneer) But since I have other things to deal with right now, it is one that has granted you some reprieve. To balance the scales. Come, Myriad.
(And with that, Malefor disappears with Myriad and General Luthor in tow, as everybody takes a second to analyze what just happened, ending our scene for today)
And that looks like a good place to end for now. Next time, the finale of Book III of the Elemental Crisis. And now it looks like all three of our new Element bearers have mastered their new powers. As to what Supergirl just did specifically, there's nothing in the games that indicates what she just did was possible, but it's something that I think makes sense with Earth. What it is exactly, we'll reveal next time. There was too much going on in the original plan for this chapter, so I'm moving parts of it to the next one. So, how does the halfway point of this saga wrap up? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
