Me: Let me tell you about it.
So I did.
"Telling Mr. Freeman about everything that had happened to me last summer and over the year was hard but felt so good at the end. After I had finished I felt light as a feather.
Mr. Freeman: Well Melinda, you sure are a strong girl, most adult women don't recover from what happened to them. Anyway, I'm sorry all that happened to you and I hope you have a good summer. See you next year.
I don't tell him that I'll be in summer school until early July but I end up saying thank you.
Mr. Freeman: you know I'm teaching a class about painting nature over the summer. Do you want the info?
Me: Sure thing
That night at dinner, I pour out my heart to mom and dad. I tell them everything from the rape at the party to everything that happened to me this past year. They ran over to hug me and I feel like we're a family for the first time in a while. I finally thanked them for the Christmas presents. Mom insisted on sending me to a therapist. I don't mind though I think therapy will be good.
The next day after my first three final exams I see a therapist Dr. Caroline Likhtbaum. She dresses way too sexy but she seems nice. Like she's bringing sunshine to her patients. In fact her name Likhtbaum Likht means light in Yiddish she tells me. (She's Jewish).
We also see a lawyer Dr. Suarez who specializes in victim's representation. He's nice. He says I'll need to testify in court when my parents decided they want to press charges against Andy. He plans to speak to Nicole and the lacrosse team to see if they are all willing to help.
The day after, are my last final exams which are for Algebra and English. On my way back to my locker to collect my stuff I find a note taped to it. It was from Heather.
Note: Mel, I'm so sorry that happened to you! I totally forgive you for not helping me decorate for the Prom! You should have told me what happened! Maybe I could have helped you, you know. Call me!
Love Heather.
Whoa, she forgives me? Who said I was sorry? I read the note over and over. I want to write her back and say: you are the worst, have fun being miserable bitch. I don't though. I decide to be kind. I crumple the note and throw it away.
Outside the school I run into David and his friends.
David: Hey Mel, I heard what happened between you and that guy Stevens. I'm sorry. I should have realized something was wrong when we dissected the frog.
Me: Evans and don't worry David it's not your fault and you don't need to be sorry about anything. In fact, you were one of the few people who helped me make it through this year alive.
David (blushing cutely): thanks Mel, you still want to hang out over the summer?
Me: well I have summer school, therapy and I have to testify in court against Andy but we can hang out on the weekend.
David: sounds nice
When I get home, there is a message from Dr. Suarez who says that Nicole and the Lacrosse team are willing to testify against Andy in court.
