The Vytal Festival Approaches

Weeks of anticipation finally led to the beginning of the Vytal Festival preparations. The city buzzed with excitement—celebrations, tournaments, and festivities in full swing. But not for everyone.

Dennis had a problem.

He was broke.

Being unable to take on jobs had left him completely out of money, and without money, he couldn't repair or replenish his equipment. Lien, unfortunately, didn't grow on trees—despite his best efforts to manifest it.

A sudden shriek echoed through the hallways.

Dennis groaned, rubbing his temples as the screaming from Team RWBY's dorm intensified. As much as he wanted to ignore whatever was going on in there, the lack of funds took priority. With a sigh, he left his room and made his way to the Headmaster's office.

Team RWBY's Dorm

"No! You want to know why I despise the White Fang? It's because they are a bunch of liars, thieves, and murderers!" Weiss screamed, her voice laced with fury.

"Maybe we were just tired of being pushed around!" Blake shot back, her breath heavy with frustration.

Silence fell.

The weight of Blake's words hung in the air, freezing everyone in place. Then—without another word—Blake bolted.

Weiss turned to her teammates, eyes blazing. "A member of the White Fang! Right underneath our noses!"

Ruby hesitated, her voice softer. "We have to find her, please, guys."

Docks – Nightfall

Blake and Sun moved through the shadows, their eyes scanning the crates and warehouses of the docks. The dust robberies had been growing bolder, and tonight, Blake intended to find out why.

Then she saw him.

Roman Torchwick.

Her composure snapped.

Without waiting for Sun, she ripped off her bow and dashed forward, grabbing Torchwick by the collar.

"Brothers of the White Fang!" Blake's voice rang out, filled with anger and betrayal. "Why are you aiding this scum?!"

Torchwick barely reacted, angling his cane ever so slightly—then fired.

The blast struck Blake's feet, sending her flying. And with that, all hell broke loose.

Ozpin's Office

Dennis stood before Ozpin's desk, arms crossed, looking distinctly unimpressed. "Sir, I've run into a problem. I'm broke. And since our agreement prevents me from assassinating people, I can't repair or replenish my weapons or gadgets."

Ozpin leaned back slightly, considering. "I apologize for my short-sightedness." He opened a drawer and slid a small card across the desk. "Go into Vale and find a store called 'A Fleeting Memory.' Hand them this, and they will take care of your weaponry needs."

Dennis picked up the card, inspecting it. "And if I need something now?"

Ozpin reached into the drawer again and pulled out a pair of kunai, spinning them between his fingers before passing them over.

Dennis examined them, twirling them expertly before giving Ozpin a curious look.

"From what I've seen, I know you prefer daggers. These belonged to another student—someone who had circumstances similar to yours. I believe he would want you to have them."

Dennis smirked, giving them another spin. "Thank you. I think I like them already."

With that, he turned and walked out, heading for the Bullhead to Vale.

Docks – Chaos Unfolds

Explosions rocked the docks. Smoke and fire filled the air as Blake clashed with Torchwick. She was losing.

A sharp kick to the stomach sent her hurtling backward into a stack of dust containers. Gasping for breath, she barely had time to react before Torchwick raised his cane and fired a blast directly at her—

Only for her form to vanish in a blur of shadows.

Torchwick grunted, scanning the area.

Sun, meanwhile, fended off a swarm of White Fang grunts, his strikes fast and relentless. He pivoted, launching a spinning kick at Torchwick—only for the criminal to block with ease.

Blow after blow, Sun attacked, but Torchwick met each strike, parrying with effortless precision. Then, growing tired of the exchange, he struck Sun hard in the sternum, stunning him before blasting him backward into a group of White Fang grunts.

Torchwick sighed, placing a cigar between his lips. "This is, by far, the worst heist." He exhaled. "Keep loading the dust."

A Fleeting Memory

The small, dimly lit shop smelled of gunpowder and oil. Behind the counter stood a thin, spindly old man, adjusting a pair of wire-rimmed glasses as Dennis entered.

"Good evening. Welcome to 'Fleeting Memory.'"

Dennis gave a short nod. "I need to place an order."

He slid a sheet of paper across the counter. The old man, Brim, adjusted his glasses again, scanning the list.

"This is very specialist work. It won't be cheap, and it will take time."

Dennis handed him the card from Ozpin. "As long as I get it, I don't care."

Brim inspected the card, his eyes widening slightly before nodding. "I'll get to work immediately. Come back next month." He scribbled something down and handed Dennis a slip of paper. "Here's my contact information."

Before Dennis could respond, a distant explosion rocked the city.

His head snapped toward the door.

"I'll be back," he muttered, already sprinting outside.

Vale

Dennis pulls out a black fob and presses it, a beeping sound occurs before a sleek grey sports car pulls up next to him. Getting in, he drives to the source of the explosion ending up near the outskirts of the docks where he catches Blake hiding amongst the destruction along with team RWBY and a random orange haired girl.

Taking a look at his Kunai he sees a message engraved on the blades

'Kage – Help People'

"Fuck me" Dennis sighs as he steps out the car and into the battle

Docks

To put it straight, Blake and Sun were getting their asses kicked by Roman and it didn't even look like he was trying. They were both sent back to the ground with Melodic Cudgel pointed in their faces until a strange dagger came flying at Roman which was blocked by him. Roman looks around only to be kicked in the face by Dennis and sent skidding back.

Dennis picks up the other half of Kage and twirls the kunai round his fingers. He turns to face Blake and Sun.

"You guys should go." Says Dennis

"And leave you here by yourself" Blake replies worried

"Well you're not of any help right now considering your aura is basically shattered and he beat both your asses-"

Dennis deflects a sneak attack from Roman and dodges back, glaring at Roman

"Go now" Dennis shouts

Blake and Sun run as Dennis smiles and is then quickly surrounded by White Fang members

"Roman I suggest you run preferably before I kill all these guys, and I guarantee you leave with dust and your life" Dennis warns

"Your different from those other kids so I'll heed your advice but take this" Roman replies

He throws a paper airplane with a date and location along with scroll info before breaking into glass and disappearing.

Dennis looks to the White Fang members slowly closing in on him

"Now for you guys"

Dennis is a blur as he dashes to the first member and stabs his kunai straight into his gut and throwing the other Kunai into the eye of another Faunus. Dennis takes his kunai out of the first Faunus and delivers a vicious roundhouse to another. He continues his assault on the other Faunus until he is surrounded by dead or severely injured White Fang members on the floor.

He spots a bullhead flying away and furrows his eyebrows. He then turns his head to see Team RWBY looking at him in horror amongst the burning docks and Blake looking at him furiously.

He pulls his other Kunai out of the eye of a dead Faunus as Blake paces towards him

"Did you have to kill them" she screams in righteous fury

"They're terrorists, am I supposed to let them get off free" Dennis responds apathetically

"Is that why you told me to run, so you can stack your body count you sick fuck"

Dennis glares at her as Ruby interjects

"Guys, calm down" she shouts but looks at Dennis disturbed

"She is right though, did you really have to kill them" Ruby says scared

"I saved your lives! the least I could get is a thank you" Dennis growls as he leaves the docks and walks back to his car

"What an asshole! Where did he even come from? He wasn't at initiation was he" asked Yang

"No he wasn't" pondered Weiss

"Guys, I'm s-" says Blake nervously

Weiss lifts her hand to stop her

"Stop! Do you have any idea of how long we've been searching for you? Twelve hours. That means I've had twelve hours to think about this. And in that twelve hours, I've decided...I don't care." Weiss says

"But I wa-" Blake stammers

"I don't want to hear it. I only want to know the next time that something this big comes up, you come to your teammates" Weiss asks

"Of Course," replied Blake

The girls return to Beacon Academy via Bullhead without Dennis

Vale

Dennis sits in his car motionless, contemplating what he did wrong. "I saved their lives didn't I. The White Fang are fucking terrorists last time I checked". He sighs deeply

Setting the gear to drive, he drives to get a Bullhead back to Beacon
