"What?" Spike couldn't have heard that correctly.
Xander shook his head. "I'm sorry. This is supposed to be a date. I've already messed it up. I don't want to trauma dump on you anymore than I already have."
"Hey." Spike pulled away and placed his cool hands on Xander's hot cheeks. "Nothing is messed up. I'm not going anywhere, you got that?"
Xander closed his eyes and nodded. "Two years ago Darla turned Jesse before the Harvest to help free the Master. While stopping the Harvest I tried to talk to him. I'd only learned about vampires being real a couple days before so I had tried to talk to him but he wouldn't listen to me. He wanted to hurt and kill people. I kept trying to reason with him and then all hell broke loose and a girl ran by and knocked him into the stake I was holding. Before I could blink he was gone."
Spike had never been a fan of Darla's and vice versa. She was always going on and on about the Master and how great he was even though she up and left him for Angelus. He felt bad for Xander but he knew back then he would have done the same thing Darla had done. He had no regrets about the people he had killed. But to see Xander blaming himself broke his useless heart. "It wasn't him, Xander."
"I know but it didn't make it easier back then. There are still hard days. That's when I'll watch the Star Wars movies."
"Are you sure you want to share something so important with me?" Spike didn't want to take away such an important memory.
With a nod of his head Xander replied, "I think Jesse would want me to share it with you."
The doorbell rang causing them to pull away. Xander pressed his lips against Spike's before going to the door. His stomach started to grumble as he opened the door and the smell of pizza hit his nostrils. With quick pleasantries Xander paid for the pizza including a tip he closed the door and turned to face Spike. "I'm starving after acting like such a girl," he joked. He started to head to the kitchen but was forcibly stopped by Spike. He looked at him in surprise.
"Don't do that. Don't diminish your feelings."
The response from Spike left Xander baffled. He really didn't think Spike would be the type of guy who thought sharing your feelings was a good thing. But from the look in his eyes Xander remembered that he really didn't know anything about Spike. Xander was just embarrassed by how he acted. Spike was this tough 'I can literally kill you at anytime kind of guy' and Xander didn't want Spike to see him as a weak human. "Have I misjudged you all this time?"
"Don't let how I am with you fool you. I'm still a murdering bastard who will kill anyone who pisses me off. I like you a lot but let me be clear I'm not changing for you." Spike was tired of changing who he was for others to like him. He wanted to be him even though he was still trying to figure out just who that was. "I can promise that I will never hurt you or try to end the word."
Xander kissed Spike. When he pulled away he said, "in this shitty world that's really all I can ask for."
Spike pressed his forehead against Xander's looking into his eyes. Xander felt like he was about to go cross eyed. "One day when you are ready you can tell me what happened between leaving Sunnydale and how you ended up in New Orleans." Xander opened his mouth but Spike stopped him. "I'm not going to hound you about it, I just want you to know that I am here for you if you ever want to talk about it. Your life has been hard and I want to help carry some of that weight. How ever much you are willing to give."
"Are you sure your soulless?" Xander pulled back and placed his hand on Spike's chest. He couldn't feel a heart beat. Spike looked affront. "It's just you are probably one of the nicest people I've ever met. Which is still weird considering you tried to kill me at parent/teacher night." Xander had no intention of ever talking about his time on the streets.
"I'll let you in on a little secret about that. I had no intention of killing you."
Xander scoffed. "You're such a liar. You were not going to let me walk out of there."
"Oh, you were definitely not going to be able walk out. It takes days for newly turned vampires to wake." Spike gently stroked his finger against Xander's pulse on his neck. "At the time it would have been the worst thing to do to the slayer. Now knowing you and what you went through with Jesse I'm glad that my plan didn't work."
"I... really don't know how to feel about that," Xander replied honestly. He had never thought that there was a chance of him being turned which he now realized was dumb to think with how many times he put his life on the line fighting vampires.
Spike continued to stroke Xander's neck. "Let's eat the pizza before it gets cold and watch these movies."
Xander couldn't stop the smile that was plastered on his face. "Let's do it!"
Star Wars: A New Hope which was some how the first movie but also the fourth wasn't too bad in Spike's opinion. He did find it a little far fetched that Luke and Hans were able to find the one penetrable spot on the entire Death Star and why it even existed. For the story Spike figured. But the explosion of the Death Star was pretty cool. He was never disappointed with an explosion scene in a movie.
Xander whipped around to look at Spike, concern coloured his face. "So... what did you think?" Before Spike could say anything Xander interrupted, "and be completely honest."
"I thought it was pretty good. The lightsaber effects were cool." Spike was being completely honest. While sci-fi wasn't his normal cup of tea he did actually enjoy it. "Let's keep going, yeah?"
Xander was up and off the couch pulling the DVD out of the player and replacing it with The Empire Strikes Back. He twirled back around with a bounce. The iconic music started to play.
This was the Xander from Sunnydale that Spike had met. This puppy like boy. He shouldn't have had to grow up so fast. "Maybe sci-fi isn't so bad. After these movies do you have any recommendations?"
There was more bouncing. "Are you kidding? Aliens, Predators, Dune... oh! Have you seen Jurassic Park?" Xander was so excited.
"Jurassic Park is the dinosaur movie, right?" Spike asked. He received an enthusiastic nod. "I haven't but I know people get slaughtered so I'm in."
Xander jumped onto Spike's lap. "You are the best!" He dove in for a kiss. The kiss turned into a quick make out session. When he pulled away he said, "I don't think there is anything hotter than a hot guy wanting to watch sci-fi with me."
"If I knew that me watching nerd stuff would get you randy I would have suggested this weeks ago." Spike took that moment to place his hands on Xander's ass and give it a good squeeze causing Xander to squeak.
"Hands! Hands in new places!" Xander squealed batting Spike's hands away while he somehow managed not to fall on the floor.
Spike finally took pity on Xander and picked him placing him onto the couch. Xander punched Spike in the arm with not a lot of oomph behind it. "Jerk." He grabbed a throw pillow smacked it down on Spike's thighs and thumped his head onto it.
"Watch the manly bits, luv!" Spike squawked. His hand on instinct went to Xander's head and started to cart his fingers through the dark locks.
Xander sighed in content and rubbed his head against the pillow. "Best date I've ever had." Past dates usually including something trying to kill him so really the bar wasn't that high but it was still nice.
"Next date we actually go out," Spike announced.
It was exciting to think of going out with Spike. For people to see them out together. "Sounds great."
