Festival of Masks
Lincoln, Clyde, and Kieran make their way up Reveler's Road to get to the Festival of Masks at Kitakami Hall.
"You guys are going to love this festival!" said Kieran.
"I can't wait to get there and enjoy it!" said Lincoln.
"Me, too." said Clyde.
"I want to see all the stuff that's at the festival, too." said Lola.
"Yeah!" shouted Lana.
"I wish we were all there with you, bro." said Luna.
"I want to be with Linky at that festival also." said Iono. "It could be like a date."
"Maybe Lincoln could get some souvenirs there and mail them to us." suggested Lynn Sr.
"That's a wonderful idea." said Rita.
"I'll look around so you can all see what they have there." said Lincoln.
As the three boys continue up the hill, they see two firefly-like Pokemon flying around together; one was purple with curly yellow and black antennae on its head, a thick red collar around its neck, yellow stripes around its belly, purple wings, and a flashing light orb on its rear.
"What's that?" asked Lincoln as he points his Rotom Phone at the Pokemon.
"Volbeat, the Firefly Pokemon. It lives around clean ponds. At night, its rear lights up. It converses with others by flashing its light." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.
The other firefly Pokemon was light blue with purple curls on its head that looked like hair, small yellow antennae on its head, black body with purple rings around the leg and arm joints, and light purple wings. Lincoln points his Rotom Phone at it.
"Illumise, the Firefly Pokemon. Illumise uses its sweet scent to guide Volbeat, having them form over 200 patterns in the night sky." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.
"They're like a couple!" said Lori with delight. "Lincoln, can you catch them for me? I can give the Volbeat to Bobby, and keep the Illumise for myself; they'll be symbols of our love."
"But I don't want to break them up." said Lincoln.
"I promise that I'll let them out together the instant they get to our house." said Lori. With some hesitation, Lincoln agrees and lets out his Chimchar, getting Volbeat and Illumise's attention.
"I'll help." said Clyde as he releases his Litleo.
"Sorry we have to do this you two; but Lori really wants you both." said Lincoln. "Chimchar, use Ember on Volbeat!" Chimchar releases a spray of embers from his mouth, hitting the Volbeat, dealing super effective damage.
"Litleo, use Ember on Illumise!" said Clyde. Litleo releases embers from his mouth and they hit Illumise, dealing super effective damage. Volbeat flies at Chimchar and rams him while Illumise does the same to Litleo. Both firefly Pokemon fly at the boys Pokemon at quick speed, ramming them.
"Chimchar, use Scratch!" said Lincoln. Chimchar jumps at Volbeat and strikes it with his claws, knocking it to the ground.
"Litleo, use Headbutt!" said Clyde. Litleo charges at Illumise and rams his head into it, damaging it, as well as making it flinch. "Now use Tackle!" Litleo rams into Illumise, knocking it to the ground. Lincoln takes out two empty Heal Balls and throws them at both Pokemon, hitting them, and sucking them in; they wiggle around until they both clicked.
"Yes! I caught Volbeat and Illumise!" cheered Lincoln. "Thanks for the assistance, Clyde."
"Sure thing, buddy." replied Clyde. Both Heal Balls vanishes and are both transported to storage. Lincoln looks up both Pokemon's information on his Rotom Phone.
"Lori; Volbeats are only male; the one I caught knows Tackle, Double Team, Confuse Ray, and Quick Attack." said Lincoln. "He has the Illuminate ability which prevents his accuracy from being lowered. As for Illumise, they're only female, and the one I caught knows Tackle, Play Nice, Sweet Scent, Charm, and Quick Attack; she has the Oblivious ability which prevents her from being attracted, intimidated, or taunted." He uses his Rotom Phone to transport both Volbeat and Illumise to the Loud residence.
"I just sent the Pokemon home, Lori." said Lincoln. "Just hurry and let them out so they can be with each other."
"Thanks, Lincoln; you're the best brother ever." said Lori before she runs upstairs to Lisa's room.
"Good job, you two." Clyde says to Litleo and Chimchar who nod in response. Lincoln and Clyde return their Pokemon to their pokeballs.
"Sorry to keep you waiting, Kieran." said Lincoln.
"No problem." said Kieran.
"Let's run the rest of the way." said Clyde. "We know how impatient your sister can be."
"Good idea." said Kieran.
"Let that hussy wait!" said Iono.
"My sisters told me I shouldn't keep a lady waiting." said Lincoln.
"That's right, Linky." said Leni.
The three run the rest of the way to Kitakami Hall; but while they were doing so, the mysterious being that was watching them at the Dreaded Den was coming down from Oni Mountain, wearing a larger version of Kieran's mask that had shiny jewels on it.
At the top of the steps leading to Kitakami Hall, Lincoln and Clyde were looking around at all the stands that were set up, along with all the people enjoying themselves while wearing masks.
"This looks so cool!" said Lincoln.
"You bet it does!" said Clyde.
"This is the Festival of Masks!" said Kieran. "Today's just the first day. It'll keep going for a while."
"Man, I REALLY wish I was there." said Lana. As they look around, Carmine spots them and storms over.
"What took you three so long?!" asked Carmine.
"Sorry." said Lincoln. "We just saw a couple Pokemon that one of my sisters wanted me to catch."
"Well, it's nice of you to do that for your sister, cutie." said Carmine with a smile, making Lincoln blush, and Iono growl.
"At least we're here now." said Clyde.
"And I'll bet you don't have any festivals this big over in Paldea or wherever, right?" asked Carmine.
"Not that I know of." said Lincoln.
"And we're not originally from Paldea." said Clyde.
"You're not?" Kieran replied.
"Yeah, we're from another country." said Lincoln.
"Oh." said Kieran.
"Kitakami's just as good as any of your big, shiny cities." said Carmine.
"We never said it wasn't." said Lincoln.
"It's okay, Lincoln; just ignore her." said Kieran.
"How about a selfie together so you can all remember this amazing night forever?" suggested Carmine.
"That sounds like a good idea." said Lincoln
"Gimme your Roto-Stick for a sec." said Carmine. Lincoln does so and the four squeeze together for a picture.
"OW! You're stepping on my toe, Sis!" said Kieran.
"Oh, stop complaining!" Carmine responds. "This'll only take a second!"
"How's this?" asked Lincoln as he gets in closer.
"That's just fine." said Carmine. "Now, say Chansey!" As soon as they all do; just like at the second signboard, Carmine kisses Lincoln on the cheek again, making him blush.
"I TOLD YOU BEFORE; NO ONE KISSES LINKY BUT ME!" shouts Iono. Carmine just sticks her tongue out at her again, making Iono growl.
"Now that's what I call a nice festival vibe!" said Carmine. "The Festival of Masks is held so we can all honor the Loyal Three, the heroes of Kitakami!"
"Yeah, Kieran told us that already." said Clyde.
"Oh." said Carmine.
"Hehehe." Kieran chuckles.
"What? What are you laughin at?!" Carmine asked her brother.
"N-Nothin'! I was just thinkin' it was funny that, like... you don't know anything about the ogre." said Kieran.
"I'll bet there's a lot that she doesn't know; like that Linky is mine!" says Iono, making Carmine growl.
"What?! I know the legends of Kitakami better than anybody!" shouts Carmine. "Pretty gutsy of you to laugh at your big sis!"
"S-Sorry!" Kieran says as he recoils.
"Kiki's still a little baby, so of course he thinks some kind of terrible monster's cool." said Carmine. "He likes the ogre more than the Loyal Three."
"I like the ogre, too!" said Lana.
"Whatever." said Carmine.
"Let's enjoy the festival!" said Lincoln as they all run off to check out all the stands. Lincoln and Clyde soon find a mask stand and they each buy a mask; Lincoln also buys several masks for his sisters.
"This is so awesome!" said Clyde as he puts on a mask that was the same one that Carmine was wearing while Lincoln puts on one that looks like a green dog face. They also enjoyed all the food that was sold there, such as the fried noodles, shaved ice, ice cream, and candy apples.
"That food looks so good!" said Lynn Jr.
"I wish I could taste the desserts." said Lola with a pout.
"I would like to sample some of those foods myself." said Lynn Sr.
"Maybe we can go to Kitakami for the festival next year." suggested Rita.
"Did you know there's a Pokemon that looks like a candy apple here in Kitakami?" asked Kieran.
"Wow!" said Lana.
"Cool." said Lincoln. The three then run off further into Kitakami Hall towards the shrine located there. As they enter the plaza, they get the attention of someone who's working a stand while wearing an ogre mask.
"Step right up for a game of Ogre Oustin'!" said the stand worker. "So, would any of you like to have a go?"
"What's Ogre Oustin'?" asked Lincoln.
"Two of you are those kids who came from Paldea." said the stand worker. "I can't very well take money from a guest! Have a go on the house!"
"How do you play?" asked Lincoln.
"You ride a Pokemon and pop a certain number of colored balloons and bring the berries inside to four bowls within the given time limit." said the stand worker. "But be careful; Pokemon will try to eat them."
"That sounds simple." said Lincoln.
"S-So you're gonna try it, Lincoln?" asked Kieran.
"Sure." said Lincoln. "I've been told to try new things once in a while."
"That's right, son." said Lynn Sr.
"I-I'll cheer you on from a... safe distance." said Kieran.
"You're up for a run of Ogre Oustin' huh?" asked Carmine from nearby, making the boys look to see her walking over to them. "I did one just now. It was pretty easy... for me, that is. My score was 6,390! Think you can do better?"
"It will be my first time, so I don't know for certain, but I'll do the best I can." said Lincoln.
"That's the spirit." said Carmine. "And if you're not better at it than me at Ogre Oustin', you're still a cutie."
"Watch it!" said Iono.
"Go get her, Lincoln!" said Kieran. Lincoln trades his Charcadet for his Cyclizar and rides him out onto the Ogre Oustin' field. He looks around and takes note of all the balloon locations and plans his route.
"Begin!" said the stand worker. Thanks to Lincoln's planning, and experience playing video games, he was able to do really well; scoring over 9,000 points.
He returns to the stand worker who was amazed by Lincoln's performance.
"That was some fine dashing about!" said the stand worker. "You even broke the current record!" After Lincoln gets some prizes, he swaps his Cyclizar back for his Charcadet and turns towards Carmine who could only stare in shock.
"I, Carmine; Mossui's reigning champion of Ogre Ballon busting...has been defeated?!" exclaimed Carmine. "Be grateful that your so cute, Lincoln; otherwise, I'd be very mad!" Lincoln blushes in response.
"Yeah! My bro beat your score, Carmine!" said Lynn Jr.
"In your face!" said Lana.
"That's my Linky!" shouts Iono.
"Great work, son." said Lynn Sr.
"Aaaagh! I hate losing!" exclaimed Carmine.
"So does Lynn." said Luan.
"Yeah; she'll come up with some dumb excuse when she does." said Lori, making Lynn Jr look away.
"I wanna have another go to get even, but I'm all out of pocket money." said Carmine.
"Oh, that's too bad." said Lola, mockingly. Carmine turned towards Kieran.
"Kiki! You go and beat Lincoln for me!" said Carmine.
"N-No." replied Kieran.
"What's that?! You're taking the side of an outsider over your own sister?!" exclaimed Carmine. "That makes me so annoyed I think I'm gonna black out!"
"Go ahead and do so, you hussy!" said Iono. "It would keep you away from my Linky!"
"I think it's getting late, son." said Lynn Sr.
"Yeah, the girls should be getting to bed now." said Rita.
"But I wanna see more of the festival!" said Lana.
"Me, too!" said Luan before she and the rest of the Loud sisters yawn.
"Don't worry." said Lincoln. "I'll record everything you miss, and I'll show you tomorrow."
"Thanks, Linky." said Leni as she and her sisters go upstairs to get ready for bed.
"And make sure to record everything for my subscribers, Linky." said Iono.
"I'll record everything for you as well." said Lincoln.
"Thanks; good night, cutie." said Iono before she blows Lincoln a kiss, making him blush.
As Lincoln and Clyde continue to enjoy the festival, the being from the Dreaded Den was doing so also.
