Chapter XII
Primum gradus
"Akko, do you want to go out with me?"
As soon as she heard that, her mind short-circuited. 'Hannah asking me out' was the only thing echoing in the walls of her skull. 'It's true that we've become very close, and I can't deny that I'm attracted to her, but never, not even in my wildest dreams, did I think this would happen.'
"It's not anything big or flashy, if that's what you're thinking. The only thing I want is to spend time with you," she said, perhaps imagining that Akko wasn't responding due to some doubt about what they were going to do that day.
Akko, however, was still on Mars, her mind had gone from seeing just one phrase to developing different scenarios that were becoming increasingly wild, and all involved the woman in front of her.
"Akko?" Hannah asked with some concern.
"A-Akko?" This time she was getting scared."

'Don't accept,' she heard someone say beside her, but she knew it came from within her.
'What?'
'You heard me, don't play dumb, DO NOT ACCEPT.'
'Why?'
'Why? I think you know very well.'
'We had already talked about this, she's not like Diana.'
'And I had already told you, you still don't know that.'
'That's exactly why I'm not going to reject her, because I'm completely sure that she is different.'
'You will regret it, Atsuko, you'll see...'

"AKKO!"
"AKKO!"
"Please answer..." Hearing that pleading tone, she reacted, and turning around to observe her surroundings, she found a desperate Hannah, while several doors in the hallway were open with curious glances due to the amount of noise they were making.
With embarrassment about to surface, she took the girl by the arm and practically dragged her to her room. "Bam," as she closed the door, she heard Lotte asking if something had happened and she was sure Sucy's gaze was fixed on her.
However, Akko only cared about one thing, and that was to properly respond to the person in front of her. So, turning her back to her two friends, she took the other hand of the girl and, leaning close to her ear as if it were a little secret, she said,
"Yes, I do want to go out with you."
Hannah, who since the last word she said was downcast and disheartened, immediately looked up and connected her gaze with Akko's, and due to the emotion that surely arose from within her, initiated a hug that was obviously returned.
They stayed like that for a few seconds, and when they finished, the English girl, unable to contain her excitement, ran out of the room without saying anything else.
Akko, for her part, stayed dazed looking at the piece of hallway visible through her door and after a while, she sighed and closed it again. Walking towards her desk with zero desire to finish what she was doing, she noticed that her two companions, who initially seemed interested in what had happened, didn't ask her anything.
Sucy, catching the Japanese girl's gaze, turned around and said, "If you're expecting us to ask something, forget it, we're used to it. In fact, I think if I were paid for every time I see you two on top of each other, I'd be rich."
"SUCY," Akko shouted, but the mentioned one ignored her and continued experimenting with different potions.
Lotte, on the other hand, just looked at her and gave her a small smile, continuing with her reading of the day.

Several days had passed since Hannah's proposal, and the time had finally arrived.
She sprang up like a spring at 7 in the morning and immediately ran to the bathroom to get ready. Once she had finished everything there, she came out and attacked her main target: the closet.
Clothes were flying everywhere, and she was sure that an hour had already passed while she modeled different outfits in front of the mirror, but for some reason, nothing convinced her. Everything was either too simple or too bold, and she was entering a crisis.
Her two roommates, on the other hand, were desperate with her, especially Sucy more than Lotte, because the disorder was such that there was underwear even next to her carnivorous plants, and if any of them ended up dying because of the change in diet, Akko would not see another day.
"Akko, could you pick something once and for all," Lotte said in a calm tone, but she already had a small bomb about to explode inside.
"But Lotte, nothing looks good on me," Akko said, grabbing her hair in desperation.
"Decide already, woman. Any moment now Hannah is going to knock on that door and you'll have to go with whatever you're wearing," Sucy said venomously, wishing the English girl would already arrive to take this mess of a girl away.
"Ughhhhh, alright," and scanning her surroundings, she picked up some pieces that were especially set aside and finally said, "I'll go with this outfit." The outfit consisted of tight black pants, a blue shirt, and a red sweater on top, which, combined with her eyes, and white sneakers for comfort.
"How do I look?" she posed for the two only spectators of the moment.
"You look beautiful, Akko," Lotte said.
"Hmm, something casual but elegant, I like it," Sucy responded in approval.
"Hehehe thanks, girls, now umm, Lotte, could you help me a bit with the makeup?" Akko asked her friend.
"Of course, come here," and following her to the bathroom, they brought one of the desk chairs, sat her down on it, and started to work.
"Nervous?" the girl asked while applying some powder.
"Y-yes, a bit," Akko responded while fidgeting with her hands.
"Ummm," Lotte affirmed while diligently continuing her work.
"L-Lotte, can I ask you something?" Now it was Akko who, while watching the process in the mirror, spoke."
"Yes, anything you want," said the orange-haired girl as she searched for a lipstick in the small case she had brought.
"Do you think I'm making a mistake?" As soon as those words left her mouth, Lotte stopped her movements and, with the object she wanted in her hands, turned around and looked at her seriously.
"I think I know what you're referring to, and I can only tell you one thing, no Akko, you're not making a mistake. It's clear from afar the special connection you two have, it's different, so don't doubt and enjoy it."
It was truly strange, everything that had come from her friend, as she had never seen her that way, with that seriousness and confidence. Something that she truly appreciated, as it showed the unconditional support she was giving.
"Ready," Lotte finished her work, looked at her, and smiled.
Curious, Akko got up and, looking in the mirror, was more than satisfied with the work. Turning around, she gave her friend a strong hug and, leaving the bathroom, heard knocks at the door, announcing her date.
Running, she put on her shoes and took the small bag she would carry, checking one last time that nothing was left behind, turned, said goodbye to Sucy, and opened the door, then said,
"Hello Hannah, let's go."
