Chapter XIX

Introductio

Everything happened very quickly. After that call with Hannah, Akko set about packing a small suitcase with various changes of clothes, as well as, obviously, her essential toiletries. Afterward, she told everything to Lotte, who had not yet left, and she was just as surprised. However, after a while, she didn't give it much importance and continued reading.

'Surely the visit to her parents was all a lie,' Akko thought as she continued checking her suitcase. In the last few hours before leaving for Blytonbury, she tidied up her bed, straightened up her desk a bit, and rushed out of Luna Nova.

The journey to London was quite fast, there were no setbacks, and the only thing consuming her were nerves and the excitement of seeing Hannah again. Upon arriving at the station and meeting the girl, she gave her a strong hug and they headed straight to the parking lot for the car. That was where she met the person responsible for everything that was happening at that moment. Sarah, Hannah's older sister, was a tall girl with black hair and a face very similar to her girlfriend's, only a bit more refined in some aspects. Perhaps she took more after her mother, while Hannah did not. However, to say she wasn't beautiful would be disrespectful in every sense of the word.

From there, the start of the friendship was a bit tumultuous, though it softened as the journey to Hannah's home took place. When they parked the car, the second surprise of the day occurred: Hannah's house, as expected, was impressive. It wasn't the typical mansion one might expect to see since it was in an urban area. However, from the door to the respective floors that could be seen from outside with their typical European architecture, it was clear the status of the people who lived in these neighborhoods.

Entering the home following her girlfriend the whole time, Akko took in all the details she could see around her. However, upon entering what seemed to be the kitchen, that was when everything started to take a turn that would lead her to the situation she found herself in at that moment.

She was sitting in the dining room next to Hannah. Across from them was Hannah's brother, Oliver, who was a spitting image of Hannah's father: a tall man with black hair, a robust but not exaggerated body, and, let's say, an attractive face. He was simply his teenage version. Oliver had a Switch in his hands, while to his right was Sarah, who was similarly distracted by her cellphone. To his left was the youngest family member, who continued to focus on her drawing while mercilessly devouring a small bowl of cookies. At the head of the dining table sat Hannah's mother, who with a serious face, watched them constantly. On the other side of the table was Hannah's father, who had his hands over his face.

As what seemed like a few minutes passed, the adults finally prepared to speak.

"Do you know what you're doing, young lady?" Akko heard the older woman say while Hannah, under the table, squeezed her hand tightly.

"Hannah, is this serious?" now said James, who had stopped covering his face with his hands and looked at them with a confused expression.

"Mom, dad... I..." Hannah choked up as tears began to appear in her eyes.

"I told you, James, I told you repeatedly not to send her to an all-girls school," the woman now directed her anger towards her husband.

"Don't start with that, Elizabeth. Where else was she supposed to go? Is there even a co-ed school of witchcraft?" the man replied with equal fervor.

Meanwhile, Akko, who didn't know how she was enduring this environment, looked to her side where her girlfriend, unlike her, could no longer contain her tears and while small sobs came from her mouth, she contained them by biting her lips.

Seeing this, Akko could not hold back any longer. Hannah was everything to her. Every damn second that she had dedicated to getting out of that depression, every breath she took by her side to give her a new purpose and move forward, all that was given to her by the girl beside her, no one else. And, filling herself with courage, she opened her mouth and said, "Mrs. Elizabeth and Mr. James, may I speak?"

The two people, who were already escalating to shouting, turned to look at the Japanese girl at the same time. Realizing the state of their daughter, they both immediately fell silent and, taking a breath, waited for the girl to speak.

Akko, taking up the baton of the conversation, began to speak. "I know that due to this confession and your immediate reaction, the support you will give us in the future, to Hannah and me, has already been made clear. However, there is something I want to say before I leave your home," and after a short pause, she continued. "Your daughter Hannah England means everything to me. She is the reason I probably still function as a normal human being today. She was the light that illuminated me in the darkness of my mind, she was the one who gave me a new purpose in my life. With or without your approval, I can swear that I will do everything possible to make her happy, because I love her. With nothing more to say, I apologize for the intrusion."

And with that, she turned to look again at Hannah, who was watching her, perplexed. She gave her one last squeeze of the hand, accompanied by a kiss on the cheek, then stood up and began to walk toward the door.

As she left the main dining room and was approaching what was the entrance of the home, she heard fast footsteps approaching from behind and someone took her by the arm. Turning around, she saw it was Hannah, who with determination in her eyes, said, "I'm going with you."

Akko's eyes widened, and as she heard more footsteps coming from the dining room corridor, she quickly turned around and ran out of the place together with Hannah.
