A little while later saw the Doctor sitting at the table, eating fish fingers and custard. Amelia and Raelyn sat across from him, sharing a tub of ice cream. The Time Lord found that he actually liked the combo of fish fingers and custard. Sweet and savoury. Precisely what he needed. Not that he ever doubted Raelyn for a moment.

The two girls watched as the Time Lord pick up the bowl of custard and drunk the remains of it. When he set the bowl down, they saw the line of custard above his top lip, like a moustache. That made Raelyn giggle. Even Amelia was amused.

"Funny", the ginger remarked as the Doctor wiped away the custard with the back of his hand.

The 10 year old tilted her head, considering him. "You're lonely", she states "a lonely God". The Time Lord's hearts stopped and he stared at her. Amelia cast her friend a curious look, wondering what she meant by that. Granted was used to some of things that Raelyn would randomly say but this…this was by far the strangest remark. "But you never used to be did you? You had a friend. She was…impossible. Your Impossible Girl" she started to smile "The Lonely God and his Impossible Girl. That's who you used to be" she shook her head "sorry. I…just…just ignore me", Raelyn dropped her eyes back to the tub of ice cream, poking at it with her spoon.

The Doctor just continued to look at her somewhat astounded. So that was how she recognised those words he thought, recalling the look of recognition at the hospital on the older Raelyn's face. She'd spoke those very same 'names' as it were several years before. Looks like there was more to learn from his little enigma, was there?

The Time Lord's hearts twists again as his mind flashed back to when he last saw Raelyn. He didn't have any regrets as far as what he'd done as it meant that she was going to live. The only thing he was ashamed of was not earning her forgiveness before he'd regenerated…something he was going to have to rectify as soon as possible. For he wasn't sure how much longer he could have her hate him for the Mars mess.

"What's your name?" the Time Lord enquired, casting a glance at Amelia, wanting to move onto something else to stop his thoughts dwelling on his final days in his previous body.

"Amelia Pond", the Scottish 7 year old replied.

"Oh, that's a brilliant name. Amelia Pond. Like a name in a fairy tale", the Doctor commented "so are we in Scotland or England?"

"England. It's rubbish", Amelia answered, honestly.

"It's not that bad Mia. I find it's all down to the company you keep", Raelyn said, looking pointedly at her.

"Yeah, that's true", she agreed. While she wasn't a big fan of England, being friends with her makes things seem not so bad.

"Where's your mum and dad, then?" the Time Lord asked "Are they upstairs? Thought we'd have woken them by now".

"I don't have a mum and dad", Amelia replied sadly. Raelyn put an arm around her. "Just an aunt".

"I don't even have an aunt", the Doctor confessed.

"You're lucky", the ginger remarked.

"I know", the Doctor said with a grin "So, your aunt, where is she?"

"She's out", Amelia replied.

The Time Lord looked at her somewhat surprised and a little bit shocked. That woman was certainly irresponsible for leaving the two of them alone in the house, especially if this 'bad crack' scared them both. It did make him somewhat angry that his violet eyed enigma had been subjected to this danger…whatever it was for universe knows how long. Well, he wasn't going to stand for it that's for sure! "Some guardian she is", the Doctor muttered "you best show me this crack".

~Bedroom~

The Doctor crossed Amelia's room to the wall with the crack in it "You've had some cowboys in here" he remarked, examining the crack "Not actual cowboys, though that can happen".

"I used to hate apples, so my mum put faces on them", Amelia explained showing him an apple with a smiley on it.

"She sounds good, your mum" the Time Lord took it and put it in his pocket "I'll keep it for later" he turns back to the crack "This wall is solid and the crack doesn't go all the way through it. So here's a thing. Where's the draught coming from?" he takes out his sonic, runs it along the crack and checks the readings "Wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey. You know what the crack is?"

"What?" the ginger asked.

"It's a crack" the Doctor ran his fingers over the crack "But I'll tell you something funny. If you knocked this wall down, the crack would stay put, because the crack isn't in the wall".

"Where is it then?" Amelia questioned.

"It's everywhere", Raelyn murmured refusing point blank to look at the crack, opting to stare at a spot on the carpet "in everything". The whispers had started up again, even louder than before.

"The Lonely God has arrived…"

"You're right", the Time Lord agreed "How did you know?" he asked, looking at her curiously. He knew that as well as her 'feelings', Raelyn also had a knack for knowing things she couldn't possibly know.

"He can protect them from HIM…"

The brunette looked up at him "the voices told me", she mumbled "they never stop telling me things". To start with it was just in Amelia's room but then she started to hear them in other parts of the house. To make matters worse, she had very recently heard them at her own home AND everywhere she went. It wasn't always a constant thing to be fair, though it could that they were just talking too quietly for her to hear at times.

"Prisoner zero…"

"You never mentioned that before", Amelia remarked, looking at her friend with concern.

"I didn't want to worry you with it", Raelyn said. The ginger had enough to worry about with her wayward aunt AND living with that crack 24/7.

"What are the voices saying to you now?" the Doctor asked. The violet eyed girl looked down at the at the carpet again. The Time Lord crouched down, placing his hands on her arms "hey", he said, softly "I know you don't know me very well but you can tell me anything. Are the voices threatening you?" Raelyn shook her head "are they saying to be 'quiet'?"

She shook her head again "No. They want you to know…"

"Know what?" the Doctor gently pressed.

"Prisoner zero has escaped…"

"Prisoner Zero has escaped", Raelyn repeated.

"What does that mean?" Amelia asked.

"It means that on the other side of the wall, there's a prison and they've lost a prisoner", the Doctor nods to the wall, standing up "And you know what that means?"

"What?" the girls chorused.

"You need a better wall" he moved the ginger's desk out of the way "The only way to close the breach is to open it all the way. The forces will invert and it'll snap itself shut. Or…"

"What?" the 7 year old questioned, wondering if she needed to be worried.

"You know when grown-ups tell you everything's going to be fine and you think they're probably lying to make you feel better?" the Doctor asked the girls.

"Yes", Raelyn answered.

"Everything's going to be fine". He held out his hand and the brunette girl took it without hesitation. Amelia grasped her friend's hand tightly too. With his other hand, the Doctor pointed the sonic at the crack and pressed the button. The two girls peered around him as the crack opened up, flooding the room with bright light.

"Prisoner Zero has escaped" the voice repeated. The Time Lord took a step towards the crack, making sure to keep Amelia and Raelyn behind him "Prisoner Zero has escaped".

"Hello?" the Doctor called "Hello?"

A giant blue eye suddenly appeared making them both jump "What's that?" Amelia asked peering out from behind him. Before the Time Lord could answer her, a small ball of light shoots out of the crack, striking him, making him fall back onto the bed.

"Are you alright?" Raelyn questioned, worriedly.

"I'm fine", the Doctor assured her, getting up. That's when he saw that the crack had sealed itself up "There, you see? Told you it would close. Good as new".

"What's that thing? Was that Prisoner Zero?" Amelia pressed.

"No. I think that was Prisoner Zero's guard. Whatever it was, it sent me a message" the Doctor pulled out his psychic paper from his pocket "Psychic paper. Takes a lovely little message. 'Prisoner Zero has escaped'" he read aloud "But why tell us? Unless…"

"Unless what?" Raelyn urged.

"Unless Prisoner Zero escaped through here" the Time Lord looked around the room "But he couldn't have. We'd know". He ran out of the room, looking around the hall confused. "It's difficult. Brand new me. Nothing works yet. But there's something I'm missing…in the corner…of my eye" the Doctor slowly turned towards the door at the end of the hallway. He just about finished turning when he heard a grinding noise along with a warning bell. "No, no, no, no, no, no!" the Doctor shouted running down the stairs, the girls chasing after him.

~Garden~

"I've got to get back in there", the Doctor said, racing towards the box "The engines are phasing. It's going to burn!"

"But…it's just a box! How can a box have engines?" Amelia exclaimed.

"It's not a box" the Time Lord freed the grappling hook and gathers up the rope "It's a time machine".

"What, a real one?" Raelyn asked, in disbelief "You've got a real time machine?"

"Not for much longer if I can't get her stabilised. Five minute hop into the future should do it" the Doctor looped the rope though the door handles.

"Can I come?" the ginger asked.

"And me?" the violet eyed girl piped up.

"Not safe in here. Not yet. Five minutes. Give me five minutes, I'll be right back" the Time Lord hopped up on to the edge of the box and prepared to go inside when Amelia spoke in a sad tone.

"People always say that".

The Doctor jumped down and crouched in front of her so they were almost eye level "Am I people?" he asked "Do I even look like people? Trust me. I'm the Doctor". Amelia smiled and he climbed back onto the police box. He grabbed onto the rope, giving the girls one last look before jumping "Geronimo!" he shouted.

The two girls watched as the doors slam shut and the box disappeared. The moment it was gone, they ran back up to the ginger's bedroom. Amelia quickly packed what she wanted to take into a small suitcase. She looked up at Raelyn when she finished and was surprised to see that the brunette hadn't even made a move to pack what little belongings she had at the house. She was too busy staring at the wall where the crack used to be.

"Rae? You gonna pack? Or are you going to keep staring at the wall?" the 7 year old questioned.

The brunette tore her eyes away from the wall and over to her friend. "I'm going to pack now", she said "you go ahead Mia, I'll be down in a moment". Amelia nodded, picked up her suitcase and hurried out of the room.

As soon as she was gone, Raelyn went over to the wall, tracing the line where the crack used to be. The room was quiet…eerily so now that the voices weren't speaking. She wondered if she would ever hear them again now that the so called 'crack' had been sealed up. She turned to where her blue bag lay and quickly stuffed everything into it, including her sketch pad and her book 101 Places to See, a gift from her aunt, Ellie Oswald. She then picked up her bag, hurried out of the room and across the landing to the stairs. The girl gave the door closest to the stairs a fleeting glance as she passed by it.

She soon joined her best friend out in the back garden. There they sat, huddled together, watching the stars waiting for the Doctor to come back.

And there the pair waited…

And waited…

And waited…
