The forest was dark and ominous. The only visibility coming from the moon and the dragon's fire above. Hiccup ran as hard as he could, only one thing entering his mind. Toothless. Desperation clawed at his heart as every breath he took felt like his lungs were on fire. Almost there! He was almost to the cove. The Gods however, seemed to have forsaken him as he tripped on a branch and fell, scraping his knee in the process. Turning he looked up just in time to see the Nightmare towering over him. It's flames engulfing everything around it. It was as if time had stopped. Hiccup could only stare as it descended upon him. Then, a scream.

It was loud, desperate sounding and soon cut short by the Nightmare's claws. Grabbing his throat, it pinned him down screeching his face. This was it. He thought to himself. This is how I die.

Hiccup closed his eyes, waiting for death to take him.

A whistle. High pitch and familiar.

The dragon looked upwards. Eyes wide and fully alert.

Silence emerged with only the sound of a faint whistle in the wind.

Hiccup opened his eyes.

Boom!

A purple ball of flame came crashing into the Nightmare throwing it back and knocking it unconscious.

Quickly the darkness moved. Making it's way towards Hiccup desperately.

Toothless.

Humming, the dragon bounded towards Hiccup, gently nuzzling him.

Crooning as he lifted him up onto his back.

After checking its surroundings, the dragon began to make its way back towards the Cove.

Once there, Toothless layed Hiccup down and surrounded him, covering him with his wings protectively.

It had been a few hours since the raids ended and also since the boy had fallen into a peaceful slumber.

Looking up, Toothless stared at the starry sky then back and the boy under his wings, puffing air at his face.

Hiccup rustled slightly, nuzzling closer towards Toothless' warmth.

Hiccup was safe and Toothless vowed to make sure that it would stay that way.

Laying his head down, Toothless couldn't help but wonder what the future had in store for them.

Whatever it was, he thought that in the moment, it was nice to breathe and just be together in their peaceful little sanctuary.
