"Mama?"

"Yes dear?" hummed Irene as the two walked along the stone path that led to the nearby city of Hadge.

"Why do we always travel to so many places?"

Irene chuckled. "Well you see. Mama is an investigator in charge of making sure everything is orderly and safe."

Erza stayed quiet as they reached the town's front gates. The banner of a rabbit eating a golden carrot waved proudly in the wind.

Irene presented her identification and the two were quickly welcomed into the city.

The city itself was wonderful. Its luxurious buildings and green luscious flowers and trees along with a friendly population made it a must visit for those vacationing the continent.

To Erza, it reminded her of Crocus, the capital city of Fiore. Except this city was only half Crocus's size.

Along the way to the inn, Erza stared in awe at the many different shops. Some sold books, adventure gear, clothes, food, and toys.

But the one that caught Erza's picky eye was a cafe bakery. Irene could help but giggle when she noticed Erza wasn't by her side anymore. Instead her daughter's face was glued to the display window where the sweets resided. Particularly her gaze was fixated at the freshly made strawberry shortcake.

Since they had arrived a couple hours early, Irene figured it would be appropriate to buy some lunch.

"How about some lunch, dear?"

Erza looked at her mom and excitedly nodded her head. Much like a puppy when it receives a treat.

Smiling, Irene took Erza's hand and led her into the shop. She had to admit, this was one of the cutest shops she'd have ever been in.

The atmosphere was light and peaceful. The delicious aroma of coffee wafted in the air. It was quiet except for the light chattering and clink of silverware.

A young waitress spotted them and walked over. "Hello" she smiled. "Welcome to Kate's Cafe."

Irene smiled back. "Yes, a table for two please."

"Of course! Follow me!"

The two followed the young woman to their table. They climbed up the stairs that lead to the second floor towards a nice booth in the corner that had an excellent view of the city.

"Here we are."

They sat down and the waitress handed them the menu.

"If you'd like, the children's menu is on the back."

Erza turned the menu over and read over the kids menu.

"I'll be back shortly to take your orders." chirped the woman.

The two thanked her before she went downstairs again, leaving the two alone. Irene took a moment to read the menu. Everything sounded delicious.

Chicken Rice Veggie Soup

Turkey Club Sandwich

Chicken Salad with dressing

Hamburger with fries

Cream of Mushroom Soup

Deserts

Chocolate Funnel Cake

Double Fudge Brownies

Strawberry Shortcake

Red Velvet Cake

Homemade Peach Pie

Since Irene hadn't any breakfast she decided to go with a turkey club sandwich, a cup of wine and red velvet cake for dessert. She looked up at Erza, who was lost in deep thought.

"Erza sweetie?"

The girl looked up. "Yes mama?"

"What would you like to eat?"

Erza grinned and held up the menu to point at the item she chose.

"I want a hamburger with fries and strawberry cake please!"

Irene chuckled and reached across the table to pinch Erza's soft cheeks.

"Mama…" Erza whined softly. "My cheeks are going to fall off."

Irene laughed and the waitress returned with their drinks. A glass of wine and cup of juice. They ordered their lunch and were told it would be out in 10-15 minutes.

Erza was given a small coloring book and crayons so she spent the time playing. Irene just sipped her wine and watched Erza. She was happy she could provide her daughter with a better childhood than the one she herself experienced.

Time quickly passed and their lunch was brought to them. The two thanked the waitress and ate.

Irene kept giggling because the burger Erza had ordered was too big. Her face would be covered in ketchup and mayo after every bite.

"Look mama!" said Erza as she held up a small drawing. "It's me and you!" Erza beamed with a ketchup stain on her upper lip.

Irene felt her heart surge with love and pride. She took the drawing and held it close. The mother always saved the drawings. She loved hanging them in her office to cherish.

When they had finished their meal, the waitress brought them their dessert. The woman could help but find the mother and daughter's reaction of receiving their cakes utterly adorable. They were like two peas in a pod.

They left the shopping after saying goodbye and headed for their hotel.

Irene could tell that with a full belly, Erza had gotten sleepy. Stopping, she picked up her little girl and carried her all the way to the hotel.

Having reserved the room a week earlier, Irene presented her badge and they led her to the suite on the top floor.

Thanking the lady, she kicked the door closed. The suite was amazing. It had 3 rooms. The living room, bedroom, and bathroom. Its theme was modern which Irene wasn't opposed to but certainly wasn't her taste. She preferred a more classy yet comfy style.

Irene made her way to the bedroom. As she tried to place the girl down, Erza clung to her. The mother giggled.

Erza wasn't going to let her go so Irene laid down. The girl snuggled into her and Irene could swear she saw Erza smirk.

Irene stared at Erza's peaceful expression. Her chubby cheeks and precious little face grinning as she muttered something about cake.

Slowly Irene's eyes drooped as well. It seems lunch was a bit heavier than she thought. Since her meeting wasn't until later tonight, a little nap wouldn't hurt anyone.

The two fell slumbered away peacefully. Their dreams were sweet and happy.

Well, that was until Irene woke up later and realized she was an hour late to her meeting.

Yep…good times never last :)
