A/N: Hey everyone! Hope you are doing well! Here to drop this chapter off!
Sorry about not updating :( I've been busy with life and chores that been holding me back from writing.
But ignoring all of that, hope you enjoy this chapter! Really excited to release part 2!
Irene was glad she had mastered multi-tasking. It made her busy life easier to manage. Afterall, she was the mother of six children. Three teenagers, two young boys and a little baby girl. Not forgetting to mention their four cats.
Everyday was a brand new adventure and she wouldn't have it any other way. But some days were less than enjoyable. Like when Natsu had blown a giant hole through the house… during a storm!
Shuttering, she pushed back that awful memory and focused on the tasks at hand.
Irene was in her rocking chair, slowly moving back and forth. In her arm, rested her infant daughter Wendy. In the other, she read her book with one hand. Her bathrobe was open and pulled to one side.
The little girl happily nursed as Irene read her book. She expertly flipped the page with her finger as she adjusted the girl in her arm.
Many would look down in disgust at the thought of nursing an infant that wasn't born from that person. But as a matter of fact, Irene did not care one bit. In fact, she dared anyone to say something straight to her face.
Wendy is quite the gluttonous baby if Irene said so herself. She will eat for about thirty or so minutes before comfortably falling asleep in her bosom.
It was a serene moment. The firewood crackled as it burned, leaving the room feeling toasty. It felt quite wonderful since it was an especially cold winter evening.
The little girl softly suckled as she's lulled to sleep by the soft rocking motion. Her pretty little eyes drooped as she struggled to stay awake to finish her meal.
Irene's ear twitched when she heard a gentle knock on her door.
knock knock*
"Come in. It's okay."
The door creaked open and a small blue cat peered from behind the door.
"Happy! What a nice surprise!"
The little blue cat entered and closed the door behind him.
Irene patted her lap and Happy flew to her, landing and curling up against her.
Irene often wondered about Exceeds. Did they age differently? Life-spans and did they have something similar to 'dog years'? Happy hatched at the house six years ago from a little egg Natsu had found in the forest.
He was six years old and did have that mentality of an adorable child. No matter, Irene loved Happy like one of her own, just like everyone else.
"Miss Irene?"
Irene looked over from her page. "Yes?"
Happy points at the little girl nursing. "Why does Wendy always put her mouth right there?"
Irene smiled and snapped her book shut, placing it on the table next to them.
"Well you see, Happy. Wendy is a baby who needs to eat. But infants can only drink milk until they are old enough to start eating solid foods."
"Oooh…did Natsu do that with me when I was a baby?"
Irene giggled and patted little neko's head.
"Not exactly. Natsu did feed you milk but from a bottle. You would actually eat about five or six times a day now that I think about it."
The Exceed laughed and rested his head against Irene's tummy.
It was quiet except for Wendy's light suckling.
"Miss Irene? Can you tell me the story about how you met Natsu pwease?" asked Happy with hopeful eyes.
Irene smiled and stroked the little Exceed's head, earning a soft purr.
Oh that was quite the story to be honest. It was a long and difficult journey when Natsu was adopted.
"Of course Happy. But it's a bit of a long story. Are you up for the task?"
"Aye sir!"
Irene grinned. "Excellent. Well, it all started when I-"
