Recap: "Apparently I have visitors, maybe I'll see you around pooch." She smirked before running off back towards her cottage, it was then that I noticed that she was barefoot again.
"Who the hell is she?" I thought watching the strange woman enter her cottage shutting the door behind her.
Kimara
I felt the vibrations when I was sitting outside, I raced inside grabbing a sweater that was lying on the back of the couch and threw it on just as a knock sounded on the front door. I paused taking a deep breath before slowly pulling the front door open, revealing a tall woman native American woman with long straight black hair falling down her back. She smiled at me once I had the door open wider, and that's when I noticed the scars along the side of her face, which did nothing to take away from the beauty she clearly had.
"Hello…" I said slowly, seeing the large copper skinned man standing a bit behind her at the bottom of the porch steps, his arms crossed watching the woman and the area.
"Hi! My name is Emily Uley, I live on the reservation with my husband Sam, who's standing behind me like a guard." I couldn't help the smile on my face when said husband narrowed his eyes at her, but it held no malice. "I heard that someone had finally moved in here, and I wanted to introduce myself, we only live about fifteen minutes walking from here through the woods."
I continued to smile at Emily, feeling at ease with her and not getting any warnings from her husband who just continued to watch our interaction, though he did give me a small smile when my gaze flicked to him.
"It's a pleasure to meet you Emily and Sam. I'm Kimara Caelestia, it's very kind of you to stop by, I just moved in a few days ago, would you like to come in?" I explained, opening the door wider and motioning for them to come inside. Emily brightened, nodding her head, and looking back at Sam, who nodded and made his way up the steps to the door. I noticed how tall he actually was and had to take a step back.
"Nice to meet you Kimara, thank you for inviting us in." Sam said smiling while he followed Emily.
"No problem." I closed the door behind him and had them follow me into the kitchen, motioning for them to sit at the stools surrounding the center island. "I'm still getting used to everything, but this place has been amazing so far. You two are the first people I've met." I opened the fridge and pulled out some water bottles and a couple bottles of beer, placed them on the island. I watched Emily take the water and Sam take the beer, like I did.
"Thank you." They said at the same time, drawing a smirk from me.
"Well, that's great that you like it so far and we can help with meeting people. We are actually having a bonfire tonight and wanted to invite you. It starts at eight, but its very relaxed, just friends and family." Emily bit her bottom lip, watching and waiting for me to reply once I was done drinking from my drink.
I swallowed and looked down at my feet, I wasn't sure if that was a good idea, I wasn't actually trying to meet anyone here, but as I looked back to Emily I couldn't find it in myself to say no. "Sure… I could swing by for a bit."
"Great!" she shouted happily, standing from the stool. "We'll see you there, here's directions, there's a worn trail that goes south just follow that until you see a yellow house surrounded by flowers." I watched as Emily wrote out and drew a horrible looking map on a napkin before looking back at me. "We'll be out of your hair, see you in a bit, and don't bring anything, we have it all covered."
I watched as the whirlwind that was Emily and Sam Uley smiled and left my house, leaving me very confused about what I just agreed to go to tonight.
Paul
I paced in front of Sam and Emily's house, and after I realized it was them that were at the cottage I raced back here to wait. I felt myself getting agitated the longer I waited, I was so focused on pacing I missed Jared and Kim walking up the driveway.
"Yo, what's with you?" Jared asked drawing my attention to him, and when he heard my growl he quickly pulled Kim behind him. "Chill man, what the fuck is your issue." He growled still shielding Kim behind him.
"PAUL!" Sam shouted as he and Emily cleared the trees in the direction of the cottage. "Calm down, you need to control yourself or I'll have Emily retract the invitation she just made."
I contained the snarl that was building in my chest at his threat, until his words processed, and I paused, staring at him and Emily who had a proud smile on her face while she passed Sam, to grab Kim's hand, who looked confused as hell, and pulled her into the house.
"Invitation?" I asked stupidly, tilting my head at him like an idiot.
"Yes, dumb ass, invitation. Her name is Kimara Caelestia by the way, you're welcome." He told me sarcastically crossing his arms.
"Can someone tell me what the fuck is happening? I get here with Kim and Paul is shaking and pacing like he's about to phase, and suddenly he's fine after you mention an invitation and a name. What happened after I went home last night." Sam and I both turned to Jared who had was glaring at us with clenched fists.
I had completely forgotten that the only one who knew what happened was Sam, and rolled my eyes, not bothering to answer him, knowing that Sam would.
"Apparently, at the end of your patrol last night, good ole Paul here, found his imprint." Sam explained to him and after a few moments of silence Jared started laughing so hard he doubled over.
"Fuck off man!" I growled, stepping towards him, but was stopped by Sam grabbing my arm.
"Oh man, finally! I was hoping I would see this day." Jared muttered, straightening and walking towards the house. He slapped my shoulder as he passed, stilling laughing and shaking his head. I sighed before turning back to Sam, who also had an annoying smirk on his face.
"Kimara? Her name is Kimara?" I repeated her name and felt the shiver that ran through my body.
"Yes, now can we please go inside, and I will tell you the rest." I followed Sam into the house, and we made our way to the kitchen.
Jared was sitting at the table already eating some of the food that Emily had made, and Kim was helping her start to pack everything into baskets for tonight. Sam made his way to Emily and kissed her scarred cheek.
"Paul, she seems wonderful, though nervous at the same time." Emily started to say as she closed another basket of food before looking at me, smiling. "She agreed to come tonight to the bonfire and should be here at eight. I drew her a map."
Once Emily finished speaking, I processed her last words and looked at Jared who had wide eyes and Sam who had a pinched look on his face, I know he loves her, but Emily can't draw a map to save her life.
"What? Why are the three of you looking like that?" Emily asked, placing her hands on her hips and narrowing her eyes.
"Nothing sweetheart. We are just getting hungry, and you know how we get." Sam placated her, wrapping his arms around her waist, making her giggle. I rolled my eyes and sat at the table, grabbing a sandwich, because I was actually hungry, taking glances at the clock on the wall, trying to make it go faster.
"Wow, you got it bad." Jared muttered with his mouth full of food, I threw a scrunched-up napkin at him, which he dodged unfortunately.
"Enough, the both of you." Kim told us, laughing and coming to sit next to Jared.
"Let's keep Pual busy, why don't you boys go and get the fire going in the back yard and pull out the chairs. Kim and I will finish up in here." Emily pointed to the back door, knowing better than to not listen the three of us left her and Kim in the kitchen.
Kimara
I decided right then that if I was ever lost and needed help finding a way out, the very last person I would call would be Emily, I would ask a blind person before her. What should have been a fifteen-minute walk, has now been close to twenty. Someone really needed to teach her how to draw directions. I sighed as I looked around the now dark woods narrowing my eyes.
"Great…. Just great." I said to myself, looking at the trees. "Any help here would be really appreciated you know."
"Sure, I'd be happy to help." I screamed, spinning towards the deep male voice and staring at a drop-dead gorgeous specimen of a man, he was at least six feet tall, and built, wearing jeans, a fitted black long-sleeved shirt with the sleeves pushed up his arms and his hands in his pockets. Clearly, there is something in the water here. He watched me with a raised eyebrow as I took him in.
"Where did you come from?" I asked once I gathered my composure and gasped when he smiled at my question.
"I came from Sam and Emilys. Emily mentioned to us that she drew you a map to get there, and we all had a feeling that you would probably need some help. I'm Paul Lahote by the way." The man, Paul, reached his right hand out to me as he finished talking.
I sighed and placed my hand in his, breathing in quickly at the shock I felt once our skin touched, and processing how warm his skin felt. My eyes looked up to meet his and held his gaze.
"I'm Kimara Caelestia, and I was just thinking how a blind person would have been more helpful." I told him, pulling my hand back from his and smiling when he laughed.
"Nice to meet you Kimara. I'll walk you there, it's not much farther actually." Paul told me, placing his hand on my lower back and guiding me in the correct way. Paul seemed to hesitate but still kept his hand lightly on my back as we walked, I turned my head trying to hide the blush I felt forming on my face.
"Thank you, I was worried I'd be lost all night and become a meal for a bear." I joked, looking up at Paul's face grinning.
"Bears? Shouldn't you be more worried about wolves?" he asked me, catching me off guard and causing me to trip over my own two feet. Thankfully, Paul caught me before I could face-plant in the dirt. "You okay?" he asked helping me steady myself.
"Oh yea, sorry. I guess I forgot how to use my feet." I quickly said clearing my throat, as we started walking again. There is something seriously wrong with me. I shook my head trying to clear it and caught Paul watching me curiously. "Don't mind me. You mentioned wolves?"
Paul smirked and kept us walking, though a bit more carefully I noticed. He gave me one nod, which caused a prickle of recognition at the back of my mind, though I ignored it.
"Honestly, I'm not too worried about wolves, I find them fascinating." I finished explaining, amused at the expression on his face, it was a cross between awed and shocked, as if that was the last thing he expected me to say.
"FINALLY!" A voice shouted as we finally made our way out of the tree line.
Paul and I both turned towards the voice, and I saw the group of people sitting around a bonfire smiling at us. I felt Paul put his hand back on my lower back maneuvering us towards the group. Emily stood up and quickly gave me a hug once we were closer, catching me off guard.
"You came, come meet everyone." She pulled me away from Paul who was watching me as I went with Emily. "You remember Sam," she pointed to Sam who was sitting on a log holding a beer, he nodded his head at me in greeting.
"That's Jared, his wife Kim." I looked at the next couple, Jared was apparently drinking the same water as Paul and Sam, he smiled at me and the woman sitting in his lap waved shyly, before tucking her brown hair behind her ear. I smiled at them both before Emily turned me again.
"That's Quil and Claire, and that's Leah and Tommy." The last two couples were seated the same way as Jared and Kim, and they all greeted me at once.
"Nice to meet you all, thank you for having me, I'm Kimara, I just moved into the empty cottage." I introduced myself, as Emily sat me on an empty log before making her way back to Sam. I felt someone sitting next to me and turned to see Paul there holding two beers grinning, he reached out and handed me one before taking a sip of his.
"Thanks." I told him shyly pushing my hair behind my shoulders, feeling self-conscious, and thinking that I should have tied it back.
Paul
I started picking at the label of the beer bottle to keep my hands occupied, I kept stealing glances at Kimara who was currently laughing at something Emily and Kim were telling her. Her face was bright as she smiled and talked with them. Every so often I'd see her glance at me quickly before blushing and pulling her hair over her shoulder.
Even though she was wearing a jacket, she still had her arms wrapped around herself. Deciding, I slid closer to her, letting my body heat sweep through her cloths. I grinned when I felt her lean into me slightly, never breaking the conversation, she was having, though when I slid my arm around her resting my hand on her hip, she did briefly tense before relaxing into me again.
"Kimara, I love your hair, I wish I had curly hair." I heard Kim say to her, pouting slightly as she swayed in Jared's lap, she always was a bit of a light weight.
"That's because you don't have to deal with it Kim." She replied to her, clearly trying not to laugh at how tipsy Kim was.
"I think I should get her home." Jared told everyone, slowly getting Kim to stand as she protested, saying she was fine. Once he was up he whispered in her ear, earning a laugh from her.
They told everyone good night and Kim made sure to remind Kimara to call her tomorrow for the lunch they are apparently having with Emily.
"I should probably start making my way back also." Kimara told us, starting to stand, watching me as I stood with her.
"I'll walk you, that way you can make your way to and from correctly." She laughed quietly, looking at Emily who had passed out on Sam's lap.
"Thank you for having me Sam, please tell Emily the Sam, and that I'll see her tomorrow." I nodded to Sam, who said good night before laying Emily against the log and dousing the fire as we walked towards the trees.
"Thanks for walking me back Paul, I'm not sure I would have found my way." She told me as we walked.
"I'm happy to, besides, gives me extra time with just you." I said, loving how she blushed, and it was visible even with her tanned skin. "Did you have a good time tonight?" I asked changing the subject.
"I did, everyone is great and very nice, its refreshing." She replied, sighing almost sadly.
The way she said that made me want to find anyone who wasn't kind and rip them apart, I took a deep breath trying to stop the shaking I felt in my arm, when she rested her hand against me.
"You okay?" She asked, concerned, and watching me.
"Yea, of course, just having trouble processing that anyone could be anything but nice to you." Evidently that was the right thing to say because it made her relax and roll her eyes at me.
"Someone is clearly a flirt; I'll have to remember that." She laughed when I quickly turned my head to look at her with a raised eyebrow, before she looped her arm through mine and held on to me as we walked.
Unfortunately, the walk went by too quickly, I knew I should have taken more turns, but than she wouldn't know the direct path and I refused to do anything that could put her in danger. We stood in her backyard, watching each other.
"Thanks again Paul, hopefully I'll see you again soon." Kimara said softly, looking down at her feet. I reached out and tipped her chin up with my fingers, bringing her eyes back to mine.
"You will definitely be seeing me again soon Kimara." I told her, leaning down and placing a kiss on her cheek, lingering and breathing her scent in deeply. "Goodnight." I whispered in her ear, smiling feeling her body shiver from my breath on her ear.
I straightened and rubbed her cheek softly, slowly backing away from her but still holding her gaze.
"Good night Paul." She whispered, watching me until I disappeared into the trees.
