"It's nice to see you again Chuck." said the man who exited from his hiding place.
"Bryce?" asked a shocked Chuck. "You are Clint O'Malley?"
"Yes" said Bryce.
"How…? How you are alive? I saw you die!" said Chuck
"Chuck I know you have a lot of questions and you are going to get the answers, but for now let's focus on the mission because we don't have a lot of time." said Bryce
"Ok. Shaw gave this. I think he wanted me to use it on Panzer." said Chuck as he showed Bryce a pen.
"KGB tranq pen?" asked Bryce
Chuck nodded a yes.
"It's smart but Panzer is not the only Ring agent on the plane. And as a bonus Panzer has a device that monitors his pulse. If his pulse goes down too much for a long period of time he will get shocked." said Bryce
"Ok so the pen isn't an option. What then?" asked Chuck.
"You are going to seduce the agent planted by Shaw. The girl that sat next to you. I can't risk for Shaw knowing that I'm alive so you need to use the pen on her. After that I will deal with Panzer and Weaver." said Bryce
Chuck sighted "I guess that I can do. But I'm not happy that I can't complete my solo mission."
"Chuck… do you really want to have solo missions? I mean I always saw you as more of a team player."
Chuck shrugged and left the room.
In another plane that just took off from LAX, Sarah was watching the view from her window. She was going to Paris to meet with Orion and most likely Chuck as well. She didn't knew what to think. Beckman said that she and Chuck were taking order from Orion now. Both the General and Shaw couldn't give them orders. What was AEGIS? How was Orion involved? And why was Chuck's father requesting her for whatever AEGIS was? Was this Orion's attempt to help Chuck get back in her good graces? Why didn't Orion trust Shaw? Well that actually didn't matter because she as well didn't trust Shaw, and after this latest tricked Shaw did, Sarah was waiting for a reason to hit Shaw because she wouldn't pull any of her punches. She may be pissed at Chuck for what happened in Prague, but she still loved him. More than anything she was mad at herself, if she just told Chuck what she felt before he uploaded the Intersect 2.0.
At the local FBI Bureau in LA, Dawn and Lester were in the interogations room.
"Hear me out officer." said Lester
"First I am a Special Agent. Second, you should wait for a lawyer." said Dawn
"What's the problem Spencer? If the guy makes it easy for us then why resist?" said man who just entered the room.
"Nathan, if he gets a smart lawyer he could say that we intimidated him into talking without his lawyer present. And do not forget I am in charge here, not you!" said Dawn
"You? In charge? No ofense, officer but let the actual man in charge talk. He is the smart one here." said Lester
Dawn turned towards Lester. Her look could put fear into anyone. Then she turned towards Nathan and said "Have fun!". Dawn left the room.
"Now agent…" said Lester as he wanted to know Nathan last name.
"Agent Montana" said Nathan
"Ok agent Montana. I want to know why do you guys think I stole someone's identity, because let me tell you I didn't!" said Lester.
"Really? Can you explain this then?" said Nathan as he put on the table that separeted them a photo with ID with Lester's photo and the name Emmet Millbarge.
Lester looked at the photo shocked. He left out a loud scream "WHAT?!" after he was sure he wasn't dreaming.
Outside the FBI office, Dawn was talking at the phone.
"What do you mean? You are sure?" asked Dawn.
"Yes Agent Spencer. We are sure!" said a man on the phone.
The call ended. Dawn was silently cursing in her mind.
God! Why I always have the worst luck possible.she thought
At Westside Medical, Ellie just got out of a meeting with social services. She met with Devon in the cafeteria.
"Devon I need to talk to you about something." said Ellie
"Sure! What's the problem honey?" said Devon
"Remember the girl who brought out the boy who got shot?"
"Yeah. Poor kid. The news of her brother's death must've been hard for her and her parents." said Devon
"Devon she doesn't have parents. Her mother left her and her father died in a fire. She's an orphan. She only had her brother." said Ellie
"That is horrible!" said Devon.
"I was thinking that we could adopt her. I spoke with Social Services and they are open to let her stay with us and if we still want to adopt her they are going to make the papers pretty easy. I mean we have a decent salary, a support system and well everything we need to adopt her" said Ellie excited of the idea.
Devon could see Ellie wanted this. She saw herself in the girl. But what Ellie didn't knew was the fact that her brother was spy. Devon saw first hand how dangerous Chuck's life was. And while Chuck tried to keep both Devon and Ellie safe, his plan wasn't 100% foolproof. If Ellie and Devon adopted the girl, then there was one more person that Chuck needed to keep safe. But could Devon say "no" to Ellie. And what if she asked for his reason of saying "no"?
"I don't know, honey. We have a complicated schedule." said Devon
"She's a teenager, Devon!" said Ellie
Devon saw there was no way out. "Ok" he said.
Back on the plane, Chuck used the pen Shaw gave him to tranq Hannah. It was pretty easy as she never thought Chuck would spike her drink. After that Bryce, came to the first class and sat next to Panzer. While Panzer wasn't looking Bryce spiked his drink. After a few seconds Hugo Panzer was out cold.
Bryce too his plane ticket and made a sign to Chuck.
They both returned to the cargo room where Chuck asked "I thought we couldn't spike his drink with the pen because he would wake up?"
"That's why I used poison." said Bryce
"What?" said Chuck
"I used one of Serena's poison vials. You may think there's always another way, but sometimes it's kill or be killed. That's the spy world, Chuck!" said Bryce.
"What happened to Serena?" asked Chuck hoping that the answer wasn't similar to Panzer's current state.
"She's dead. I broke her neck. And for your knowledge Panzer is still alive, but that poison is so strong that his little gadget won't wake him up. When the plane lands in Paris he would get the cure. Now put this on!" said Bryce as he gave Chuck a parachute.
"We are jumping from the plane? Why?" asked Chuck
"So Shaw men can't follow us!" said Bryce as he put his own parachute and took a briefcase that Panzer had it in cargo.
Chuck followed Bryce after he also put his parachute. They both went towards door at the end of the plane. Bryce opened the door and room sealed off from the rest of the plane. Both Chuck and Bryce jumped. Chuck flashed and now he knew how to use the parachute.
Sarah's plane landed at a private airport in a small town in France. The town was near Paris. As she exited the plane she saw Stephen Bartowski.
"It's nice to see you again Agent Walker." said Stephen
"Call me Sarah. It may be better if nobody knows I am CIA" saird Sarah
"Besides the pilot who brought you here, who's AEGIS as well, there's nobody but us." said Stephen
"The pilot is a spy?" asked Sarah surprised.
"Yes, he works for DGSI." said Stephen
"DGSI? I thought AEGIS was formed from CIA agents." said Sarah
"It's complicated and I will explain everything when Chuck is here as well. He should be here soon." said Stephen
In LA, Shaw was speaking on the phone with Hannah.
"What do you mean you don't know were he is?" asked Shaw.
"He spiked my drink. I woke up and the plane landed. Panzer was poisoned but he got the cure. Arrested by the CIA. It wasn't Bartowski through. Apparently there was another agent on the plane who helped him. Both Bartowski and the other agent jumped from the plane. The other agent used the name Clint O'Malley, but it's an alias." said Hannah
"What about Weaver?" asked Shaw
"Dead. Broken neck." answered Hannah.
"Clearly that was the hand of this Clint guy. Clearly, Bartowski made you." said Shaw
"What do I do?" asked Hannah.
"You come to LA. You will join our team. If you can't get close to Bartowski, then there's always someone else." said Shaw as he ended the call.
His plan wasn't working and Shaw hated it. Things needed to be reajusted. No plan is perfect but he was sent in LA to recruit the human Intersect to the Inner Circle and he was failing. That wasn't an option. He planed to separete Walker from Bartowski. But AEGIS interfered. What was AEGIS? That he didn't knew. But what he knew was that now both Walker and Bartowski reported to whatever AEGIS was. It was also clear they had more political power than the Inner Circle. It was clear someone else working for AEGIS helped Bartowski on the plane. Shaw needed answers, fast. He needed to regain control. But how? Well not everything goes as planned in the spy world. You always need a plan B, and Shaw was already starting putting things into motion.
"Hello, Morgan Grimes!" said Shaw to himself as he sat in his apartment reading Bartowski's file.
Stephen and Sarah sat in the private airport waiting. A car arrived at the entrance of the airport. Chuck was the first stepping out of the car.
"Sarah?" asked Chuck
Sarah just went and hugged him. Chuck clearly ready to say something else but after Sarah hugged him he just went silent.
"I'm glad you are ok." said Sarah.
"Yeah I think I am having doubts about how ready I am to be a spy." said Chuck.
Hearing that Sarah couldn't help but smile for a second. There may still be a chance to save Chuck from the spy world. She may still have a chance to keep her Chuck.
"Wait I am not getting any hugs?" said Bryce as he stepped out of the car with a briefcase.
"Bryce?How…?" said Sarah. She didn't have any words.
"Yeah that's actually a good question. I feel like Casey was right about his comment of you being a cockroach. You always come back." said Chuck to Bryce
"Well Charles I think both you and Sarah need answers so let's start at the beginning." said Stephen. "When I left you and Ellie, I left to protect you. I deleted everything about myself from the gouverment database. They hunted me. But I stayed one step ahead. I created AI predictble program. I hacked into the CIA and NSA databases and connected the program. After that everytime they got too close I dissapeared again. But then The Ring was formed in 2004. CIA thought they weren't a threat. They underestimate them. The Ring was smart. They easily infiltrated the CIA. By 2006 they had multiple cells, and one of their most impressive cells being Fulcrum. Their scietific division. They put Ted Roark, one of scientists that worked with me at the Intersect Project.
One of the things you may don't know about the Intersect is that it had multiple version, Beta the first version of the Intersect was mess. Then there was Gamma aka the Omaha Project version. That is the version of the Intersect I have. It wasn't perfect but worked. Then I have heard that the gouverment started looking for possible Intersect users. The thing about The Gamma Intersect was the fact that it only worked in some specific brains. If uploaded in someone who couldn't handle The Intersect, well Gamma drove the person crazy. You were the perfect candidate for Gamma. I contacted Agent Larkin and convinced him to help me taking you off from the CIA radar. After you dissapeard from their radar, Omaha Project was officialy closed. What I didn't knew was that the gouverment continued working on the Intersect. They created the Alpha version or 1.0, the version you had. Fulcrum learned about the Intersect and they tried to recruit Bryce to their ranks and use him to steal the Intersect." said Stephen.
"But I double crossed them. I contacted Stephen. He helped me to destroy the Alpha version. But unaware to him I created a copy and sent it to you. Then you know the rest." said Bryce
"After Bryce returned from the dead, he contacted me. Told me what was going on. I wasn't happy that the Intersect got to you, Charles. I never wanted you or Eleanor in this life. So me and Bryce started working toghether. Then I heard the gouverment had nearly finished another Intersect and they planned to kill you after they activated it." said Stephen
"What?" said Chuck
"I never heard anything about that" said Sarah surprised.
"And it wasn't that much of a surprise. Casey was the one with the orders. Lucky for us Fulcrum stole the Cipher." said Bryce
"But we recovered the Cipher." said Chuck
"Yeah we know that as well. But by that time I was in LA. Casey was in your house ready to shot you, before Sarah came with the news that the Intersect got destroyed. Fulcrum made us favor for once. If that didn't happened I would've shot Casey and took you to your father." said Bryce
"Ok what about Von Heys?" asked Chuck
"That was us. We sent Von Heys the Intersect glasses with an knew Fulcrum started developing their Intersect and planned to use it to brainwash people. The Fulcrum Intersect was similar to Gamma, so only Chuck could've survive it. The update was something to stop their Intersect from brainwashing Chuck. The mission was supposed to be simple. Get the Intersect glasses and trick you into using it. But somehow Fulcrum got wind of the glasses. Then Von Heys betrayed us and you know everything. I also needed to keep you and Sarah from acting on your feelings for each other. I was aware of them so it wouldn't took Beckman long before she had 49B. And I admit it I was jelous." said Bryce
"We then heard about your mission with Cole Baker. Until then, me and Bryce were the only ones fighting Fulcrum directly. Well there was your team but you get the idea. After Agent Baker left US, I had Bryce recruiting him. And we didn't stopped there. We started recruiting from every agency. We formed the AEGIS network. After that we had the whole Intersect 2.0 incident. Bryce survived but me and him talked with Beckman. Told her about our network of spies. We brought things to The President. It was decided to fake Bryce's death. AEGIS was supposed to operate from the shadow and attack The Ring. Your team was supposed to go after The Ring as well. I wasn't happy with Chuck becoming a spy but I didn't have word into the matter. At least your team was working pretty well and got results against The Ring. Then Shaw came… Shaw is part of a group of CIA agents named The Inner Circle. They are not really a threat. But their moral compass is well broken as hell. Shaw was already after The Ring because he thinks they killed his wife. So they sent Shaw to your team so he can recruit the Intersect to their group." said Stephen
"It was clear they won't succed but Shaw's plan would've put Chuck in danger. He already planned his Red Test." said Bryce
Sarah looked shocked when Bryce mentioned the Red Test.
"What's a Red Test?" asked Chuck
"It's the finale step of becoming a field agent. It's an assasination mission. You get a a mark, a location and a time. You kill him or her and you passed, you don't and you fail. Most people who fail die." said Bryce
"That sounds like a bad TV show idea." said Chuck
"Not everyone has to take a Red Test. Only agents they think have potential. ANd the Intersect puts you on that list." said Bryce
"It's why I didn't want you to become a spy" said Sarah
"In any case we had to recruit you two to AEGIS. That way Sarah will be in charge of your training, son. And we can avoid the Test." said Stephen
"Wait, what? But Shaw is still the Special in charge of team Intersect." said Sarah
"AEGIS has a lot of political power. Or you forgot we report to The President of US, Special Agent Walker?" said Bryce with smile
"And the other countries who have spies working for AEGIS?" asked Chuck, while Sarah remained silent after Bryce comment.
"It's more of a allience Charles. US, France and UK. It's why we have this airport all for ourself." said Stephen
"Take this" said Bryce while giving Sarah and Chuck two phones.
"We already have phones." said Chuck
"Not like those. Encrypted phones created by me. That's how we stay in contact." said Stephen.
"Both phones have our numbers saved. I am Phoenix and Stephen is saved as Orion." said Bryce
"The codename suits you." said Chuck smiling at Bryce.
"Also take this." saved Stephen as he gave Sarah and CHuck two hotel key cards and two aiplane tickets for flight from Charles de Gaulle Airport to LAX.
After that Bryce and Stephen left both Chuck and Sarah.
"What now?" asked Chuck looking at Sarah.
"We try to not attract attention to us. We go to the Hotel your father told us, stay there and tomorrow we go back in LA." said Sarah.
At the Buy More, Morgan just finished his shift. He went outside of the store, ready to go home when saw Dawn.
"Hey." said Dawn
"I have to say Dawn, I didn't expect you becoming a Fed. It's so cool! And fact you made us favor by arresting Lester…" said Morgan but Dawn interrupted him
"We let Patel free. He was innocent. Look at these photos please." said Dawn as she showed Morgan photos with fake ID and credit cards on the name Emmet Millbarge. The ID had the photos of Buy More employes. "Someone is trying to set-up every Burbank Buy More employee and I need your help to learn who." said Dawn
Outside of the Westside hospital Ellie was calling Chuck.
"Hey El, what's up?" answerd Chuck
"Where are you? I have something to tell you." said Ellie
"I'm not in town. A job for Buy More Corporate. What's going on?" said Chuck
"I adopted a teenage girl. She's an orphan. And her brother died and I didn't want her to go in the system." said Ellie
"That… That's great. I am happy for you and Devon." said Chuck who clearly didn't know how to respond to the news.
Author notes: As you noticed this chapter is longer than the usual chapters for this story. That's because I decided to focus more on this story. I plan to have longer chapters, but that will mean that I won't update this story as often. With that said don't forget to give me some reviews. Next two chapters are an original story. I plan on having Jill Roberts showing up. And well see you next time.
