Five-year-old Mirabel Madrigal walked on the sidewalks of New York, sadly kicking a stone.
After her gift ceremony failed and her door faded, her Abuela Alma decided to kick her out of her home in Colombia, to her it was bad, but when she sailed to America, it was going to be an adventure for her.
As Mirabel kicked the stone on the sidewalk as she walked, she bumped into a blonde girl around thirteen years old as they both fall and Mirabel scraped her knees and hands.
"I'm so sorry! Are you okay, sweetie?" She asked Mirabel.
Mirabel got up and answered, "Yeah."
"I'm Sam Sparks, what's your name?" Sam asked her.
"Mirabel Madrigal," Mirabel answered.
They shake hands and Sam picked Mirabel up.
"What are you doing out here all alone in the city?" Sam asked the child.
Mirabel shuddered and answered, "I got kicked out of my home."
"You what?!" Sam exclaimed, feeling bad for her.
"All because I didn't get a gift," Mirabel finished.
"Gift?" Sam asked.
Mirabel nodded and answered, "Magical gift, I come from South America in a village called Encanto where every part of my family at five years old receive a gift and their very own room, but I didn't and my abuela kicked me out and I came here."
Sam patted Mirabel's head and said, "Oh, honey, you don't deserve to be kicked out, why don't you stay with me? I can be your guardian angel."
"Really?" Mirabel piped up.
"Yep, like your mother figure," Sam replied.
Mirabel smiled and nodded at her.
"Follow me," Sam said as she led Mirabel to her apartment.
