Waking up in Newtopia

Marcy Wu was awoken by a groan while also feeling smooth tiles under her form and the bright sunshine stinging her eyes. Making herself on her feet, she soon found herself lost in what greeted her:

It was a grand city straight out of 'Vagabondian Chronicles' and 'Creatures and Caverns'; beautiful and smooth buildings of gold, ivory and marble, with coral decorating almost all of said buildings. Some of the structures looked like toadstools, and there was a mix of conservatories and a beacon of sorts atop the tallest structure in the city, which she presumed was the castle of the large fellow in gold she saw in the town center.

'It worked! The Calamity box worked!' Marcy inwardly cheered, relief of her not having to move and leave Anne and Sasha…Wait a minute: WHERE WERE ANNE AND SASHA!?

Marcy looked all over, hoping to see a trace of her friends. She had no such luck on that, instead only finding the hooded boy of the trio who had offered to buy the box from them. He didn't seem to see her, his attention focused on what looked like a broken belt,

"No…No, no, no! Not here!" He begged as he tried to put the belt back together, not seeing his skin take on a new hue and…Wait. Was that?

He had a tail. A long tail with a fin on the end, whacking against the floor. And he only had two fingers on each hand along with his thumbs.

Marcy's eyes widened in shock as she slowly moved towards him, only for him to trurn away, tuning out everything

"Um…Hi." She tried to call out. "You…you okay?"

The boy didn't hear her, his tail starting to slow and straighten up.

"That one goes there, that wire fits back no e on, come on! The one time I leave my repair kit at the hotel!"

Seeing as he wasn't responding to her and was clearly in distress, Marcy began to walk away, soon losing herself again in the beauty of this city….

"MISS! WATCH YOUR…!"

It was only then that Marcy looked down and saw she was about to fall down a flight of stairs.

'Oh, this is going to hurt…' The Taiwanese girl inwardly grimaced.

BAMF!

Marcy then realized that while she was still falling, something had wrapped around her, trying to cushion her from the…

CRASH!

…stairs.

"OH!"

CRASH!

"OW!"

CRACK!

"EEP!

BAMF!

That sound again…and the hints of smoke?

SLAM!

"OUCH!"

BAMF!

CRACK!

"SHYYYYYYYYYYYYY!"

BAMF!

CRUCNH!

"OOOH, I ACTUALY FELT THAT ONE SPECIFICALLY!" Her savior managed as they briefly went flying in the air

BAMF!

Finally, the falling and sound stopped and Marcy found herself let go as she saw the inhabutants of the city; human sized newts, frogs and toads, all gathered around her and…

"GREAT GOOGLY MOOGLY DAY IN THE MORNING THAT SMARTS!" The boy hissed as he tried to fight through the pain, only to realize something: "Wait a tic; Lucas and Danny aren't here…I can actually swear!"

He then took a deep breath and then roared

"DIRTY PAPA….!"

Whatever the boy said was thankfully censored by the shattering of several pots, a pipe organ and several birds flying away from wherever they were roosted, squawking the whole time. Sadly, he was still heard throughout the city, with many stopping midstep with horrified gasps or shocked looks on their faces.

"By Olms!" A pink scaled Newt warrior gasped as she and her beloved finished tea at the castle.

"I haven't heard profanity of that volume since Sal's sandwich shop closed." Said girlfriend finished.

Ten minutes later!

Thankfully, the Newts had free public health care, so Marcy and her companion found themselves rushed to a hospital. Aside from some scratches and the shock of either having a near death experience or whatever the boy said, Marcy was in peak condition.

The boy who'd saved her on the other hand?

"Please! Please! Just let me go!" he begged, his hood still covering his face, even with the rest of him now in a hospital gown and his left leg and tail in casts. "I didn't mean to come here, just…!"

Marcy finished her juice and snuck on over to see what she could do, if anything. She didn't know this boy very well, but she could tell a few things off the bat: He was nervous around doctors, missed the two he was with…and despite it all, the moment she was in trouble, had moved to save her.

And yes, there was also the fact he seemed to have some kind of teleportation power, but for once, Marcy was more concerned about the person, not the power.

"We don't mean you any harm." The doctors said. "But we detected something in your head; something that we can remove without…"

The boy finally stopped thrashing.

"Y-you can?" He asked, hopefully, a smile clear under his hood.

"Of course, its simple. We just need to…"

He hid deeper into his hood and covered his face.

"It's the only way!" One of the nurses, trying to sound understanding but getting annoyed, said.

And that was the last straw. Marcy walked on in.

"What's happening?" She asked. "I did overhear a lot, but never hurts."

A newt produced an X-ray revealing that inside the boy's brain, there was a crystal of some kind. Obviously, they wanted to remove it and the boy wanted that to happen, but….

Marcy took a deep breath and sat beside the boy

"Thank you."

He looked at her.

"For saving me back there." She clarified, her smile never fading. "I…I don't know much about mutants or human sized amphibians, but…they seem to want to help you. I'm sure they'll…seda…put you to sle….knock you ou…Ya know what I'm saying and I;m sorry, but there's no other way to say it."

The boy tensed again.

"Please, just…help them help you." She asked.

"You don't understand! I'm heinous!" The boy begged, his voice cracking as if he was on the edge of sobbing.

"Actually, with the tail and your hue you're rather dashing for a….whatever you and Miss Wu are." The doctor said.

"Doctor, he's barely 13." A nurse retorted.

"I am TRYING to help him!"

The boy relaxed a bit at that, shocked.

"R-really?"

Only his brothers, mother and the older students had ever told him that.

"Look, you saved my life back there." Marcy said, getting his attention. "and whatever they want to get out is something you hate, so…please lower the hood? If nothing else, much as I love the rouge asethic, I would like to see the face of the guy who saved me."

"…You really won't like what you see." The boy warned her. But Marcy just motioned for him to show her, so in resignation, the boy lowered his hood and hung his head as he waited for the screams, jeers and tears:

He had greenish skin and hair with elf like ears and golden eyes, with a hint of blue that appeared in what looked like a pattern of sorts around him.

….

,

,.,

Where were the screams, jeers and tears?

He opened his eyes to see the doctors, while shocked…more intrigued than anything else. And the girl

She was awestruck.

"Wow." She smiled. "Wow. You know? Green is my favorite color."

That…was not what he had been expecting.

"…Pretty girl say what?"

"What?" Marcy asked, having missed what Tony said.

"What?!" The mutant boy hurriedly replied. Off to the side, the hospital staff chuckled chuckled.

"Well, thank you for your help, Marcy." The doctor smiled as he and the others readied to sedate the boy. "You're welcome to stay until the surgery; it shouldn't take too long."

Marcy took him up on that offer and stayed by the boy's side.

"Frost." The boy said, getting the doctor's attention. "Tony Frost. My name."

"Nice to meet you, Tony. I'm Marcy Wu."

And with a handshake and smile, Tony was hooked.

CALAMITY FACTOR

Elswehere in Amphibia, the leader of the latest arrivals sensed another of his mind control cryustals being destroyed.

"…Ah well, I still have Lancelot." He smirked.

To be continued…

And thus the second episode of this story comes to a mostly happy end! A little short (not as much as the next one), but I do hope I've planted the seeds for a cute dynamic/story between Marcy and Tony.

Originally was going to include the meeting with a certain Keith David voiced character, but its taking longer than I liked so I decided to move it to the next Tony and Marcy chapter.

Tony is the brother of whom I've had the most fun with writing and whose story I've already developed the most (Thanks in part to Marcy's Journal but also a certain Arthurian legend). The son of, as some of you probably guessed, fan favorite Nightcrawler, Tony is meant to reflect on how his messiah-figure of a father probably initially struggled to get the happy, forgiving elf we know and love, while also mirroring his 'mother's' growth into a true legend.

And as his last line suggests, Tony will soon be growing up and coming into his own.

As for the lovable Marcy herself, finding herself with someone is sure to cause some changes to her character arc, am I right? And yes, I did take inspiration from X-Men Evolution for Tony's reveal scene.

Next up, the Essex report on Tony and then the final brother and Sasha!

Read and review, hope to see you soon!
