Chapter 1. Invisible Touch

June 27th, 2016. 13:56

Shizuka stares out of the window of the airplane, and sighs. She'd been taught Japanese, the old man had at least that much foresight, thank god, but he could've at least set up a godfather, or something.

So much shit happened in the last few months. She was still grieving the death of her parents, but had to move halfway across the world, because apparently her closest living relative was Japanese. Fuck's Sake.

A Speedwagon Foundation agent taps on Shizuka's shoulder, and she removes her headphones, music still playing faintly through them.

"We'll be arriving soon, Miss. We've arranged a pickup at the airport with a friend of Dr. Higashikata. He'll take you to Morioh."

Shizuka nods, and puts her headphones back on, listening to Radiohead's new album while staring out at the broad city below. She'd been briefed on her new home, a small town in S City prefecture, Japan. She'd be moving in with her adult half-brother, a man called Josuke Higashikata.

The plane arrives at a small section of S City's airport dedicated to private enterprises, and Shizuka gets rushed through customs. It didn't take long, there wasn't much she brought with her. Clothes, her laptop, some assorted hygiene products, that type of thing. She didn't own any furniture, and the house, along with the rest of her inheritance was put in a holding account by Joseph, to be given over to Shizuka once she turned 20.

After that, the speedwagon foundation leaves her on her own, walking into the lobby of the airport. Shizuka looks through the crowds, her eyes landing on a blond man, holding a sign with "Ms. Joestar". She walks up to Mikitaka, lowering her headphones.

"You must be Shizuka. My name is Mikitaka. Dr. Higashikata sent me to pick you up. Follow me."

Shizuka nods, and follows Mikitaka out to the parking lot, making some smalltalk along the way.

"Dad told me some stories about Josuke, apparently they stopped a serial killer together."

"Oh yes. Kira Yoshikage. He was a powerful stand user, and serial murderer. Your father and Dr. Higashikata stopped him, with the help of some other allies." Mikitaka replies, taking out his car keys as they approach the car.

"So, you know about stands, then? You a user yourself, or what?" Shizuka quips

"No, I unfortunately don't have such a gift, but Dr. Higashikata has educated me on their nature. For example, I know yours can turn things invisible, and that his can repair things."

Mikitaka opens the car's passenger door for Shizuka, and sits in the driver's seat.

"There's a great restaurant in town ran by a stand user whose power lets him produce the most wonderful food. You'll love it."

Shizuka sits in the passenger seat, putting her headphones back on. The drive to Morioh is as long, as it is boring. Mikitaka doesn't make for very good company, going on and on about how wonderful Morioh is. Shizuka is not buying it, and uses the time to listen to music.

Shizuka arrives to Morioh safely, Mikitaka pulling into the driveway of a nice suburban home

"Dr. Higashikata is working a long shift today, he'll only get home some time after midnight. I'll finish dinner, and you can get acquainted with Josefu while you're at it. He'll most likely be in his room playing a video game, I'd reckon he's back from school by now."

Shizuka nods, and follows Mikitaka into the house. It's nothing special, a very ordinary 2-story suburban house.

"Your room is upstairs, second one on the left. The bathroom is across from it, and the rest you'll find yourself, I'm sure.", Mikitaka says, walking towards the kitchen.

"Got it. Thanks." Shizuka replied, walking upstairs to unpack. Her room isn't very big, much less than what she was used to with the old man. She sighs.

June 27th, 2016. 23:45.

Shizuka had spent most of the day laying in bed, and the little time she spent doing something else was spent talking to Mikitaka and Josefu. Dinner was nice, though Dr. Higashikata wasn't here for it. Something about a late shift. She didn't really pay much attention.

As the house settles into the night, Shizuka takes the pack of cigarettes she'd snuck through customs from her bag. She knows she shouldn't smoke, being just 17 and all, but it was what got her through most days.

She doesn't like using Achtung Baby to deceive family, and sneaks downstairs the old fashioned way. Josefu was up playing some video game or other. A shooter with lots of colours. Needless to say, he didn't notice Shizuka sneaking outside.

Standing on the porch, she takes out her lighter, a black Zippo with her initials engraved on it which she'd gotten from her dad. She lights her cigarette, the release of nicotine finally flooding her system.

Until she saw a car pulling into the driveway. "Fuck. It must be Dr. Higashikata. If he sees me-".

Before Josuke could make it to the door to spot her, she'd disappeared the cigarette with Achtung baby. It still smelled like smoke, that she couldn't do anything about.

Josuke walks up to the porch, wearing a purple turtleneck, his hair styled in a pompadour. "So, you must be Shizuka. Nice to finally meet you, apologies for the wait, I'd been busy at work." He says, sniffing the air.

"Y-yes, Sir. It is nice to meet you. I-" Shizuka replied, shakily.

"You know, you really shouldn't smoke. It's bad for your lungs." Josuke commented, seeing clean through Shizuka's disguise.

"I- How'd you-"

"I know what your stand does. I met you when it first manifested." Josuke says, Crazy Diamond appearing behind him, staring at Shizuka's hand

"It's just, it helps destress, with the passing of dad and all.." Shizuka answers gripping her bicep anxiously

"I understand. When I was your age, the thing that helped me work through stress was sparring with Okuyasu. Want to give it a go?" Josuke extended his hand, in sync with his stand.

"You're on." Shizuka drops the cigarette on the ground, stomping on it, and taking a combat stance. "But beware, Achtung Baby isn't the only trick I've got up my sleeve."
