Just some info before you read if you want some backstory. You can skip the Bold text.
Hmmm where do I start? Some of you might recognize this old name from a few years ago on . For those new and all the Sonic/Shadow readers, I wrote a self-insert fanfic called "GreannRose" back in high school because I was going through a rough break up at the time. I have since taken down that old fic, it's outdated, kind of unoriginal and was just a copy of the show RWBY, with some added characters and cutesy moments between Ruby and Bléu (my self Insert) I might re-upload the old fic just to see how well it holds up, but I have no real desire to.
I claimed that I was gonna finish it, then the show began to pick up after the creator died, the community grew more and more toxic, and the show was simply releasing too fast and I couldn't keep up. At least that's my perspective on it.
For the sonic fans.
This will be a bit of a rewrite to the Sonic Forces with my own RWBY OC filled in as the avatar character (shocker, i know). One of the many complaints I always hear about Forces is the plot, which I find crazy Because I thought it was really cool! It lays the foreground for the IDW comics and I thought many of the elements in that game boosted the storytelling of the Sonic world itself. And obviously, I do have my own issues with it of course, that's why I'm writing this! Infinite? Rewritten. Classic Sonic? Stamped over like Mike Wazowski.
I will not make any promise that this story will get finished. I will write at my own pace.
One final warning: This story might have some darker themes than what you would see in a typical Sonic story. Won't be anything TOO gruesome, but there are a few things from the RWBY world that might leak in from time to time.
The following events take place 1 month before the events of Sonic Forces during the Shadow Episode.
Shadow the Hedgehog. The world's ultimate lifeform was investigating a once-quiet city called Sunset Heights. Detected there was a large group of Eggman's forces, yet it was outside of his usual circle of where he focused his troops. The rotund doctor was up to something, and Shadow was contracted to get to the bottom of it.
The darkly colored Hedgehog had been on his own since he was reawakened by Rouge the Bat when they fought Metal Overlord. He recovered his memories shortly after and defeated Black Doom twice over. He was a loner, often lending his services to the government, G.U.N. when they needed him.
He ran through the streets of Sunset Heights, destroying any robots that stood in his way. He was meant to meet up with his ally, E-123 Omega. But then the Walking Arsenal started acting strange over the comm radios, speaking of Shadow being a target.
"Omega, what happened? What's going on over there?" *The Hedgehog asked. This was strange. Was Omega hacked and been given the directive to kill Shadow? Rouge was still safe back at G.U.N. this wasn't making any sense. Rouge mentioned that there was a rumor about Eggman developing a new super weapon. Was this it?
Shadow moved through the city, finally exiting it and delving deeper into the cluster of Eggman robots that were on the edge of Green Hill Zone. "Omega, respond. Where's your location?" But there was no answer. Shadow was starting to get worried; Omega is almost on par with himself. He couldn't have gotten destroyed, could he?
"So, you must be Shadow the Hedgehog, right?" A confident feminine voice suddenly appeared behind Shadow, causing him to turn around and see a black and red fox. She wore what looked like half of a mask, covering her left eye, the rest of her face in full view. She wore a skin-tight red suit that had some sort of life-support function. a fragmented gem rested on her chest, glowing and shifting between red and black.
"That oversized tin can was nothing compared to the powers that I possess now. The fat man said that it was the most powerful robot in the world! Ha!"
Shadow got into an offensive position. He didn't recognize this woman, but it was clear that he had some idea of who he was. He has no idea what to expect from this opponent, outside that she might have had some augmentation from the doctor himself. "Tell me what you did to Omega…" he said, inching closer, watching her every move.
"Weaklings like that don't matter. All that matters is power. I'll make sure to show you that mine is greater than yours… Some lab rat calling himself the Ultimate Lifeform should finally be the perfect test to test out the full capabilities of all these new powers." She gravitated upwards. Her words grew restless as she desired to let loose.
"I don't know how you know me, but I think it's about time I shut you up." The black and red hog teleported in front of the unknown fox and went for a roundhouse kick, only for it to phase through her.
"No, you have no reason to know me either." Her voice echoed around Shadow before she materialized a few feet away. "I'm in a good mood today, so I guess I'll tell you my name before you die. My name is Cinder…" She had a wicked smile on her face as her eyes ignited with fire around them. She used an unfamiliar fire based magic to summon several balls of fire at the Ultimate Hedgehog.
Dodging them was easy for Shadow, but the prancing pyro was far from finished; she summoned a fiery sword and swung at the hedgehog. Deflecting the swipes with his air shoes, sparks flew past both of the fighters. Shadow jumped back and threw a few chaos spears, but the mysterious black and red fox sliced the energy to pieces. Whatever this thing was, it seemed to be on par with the black hedgehog, maybe even stronger.
The two science experiments clashed for a bit longer. Cinder was ferocious with her magic flames. Shadow didn't meet with Blaze for very long, but he knew that even her fire magic wasn't on this level. The psychotic Maiden managed to grab a hold of Shadow's right air shoe in the midst of a kick, using her magic, and it began to melt his shoe. Almost instinctively, the Ultimate Lifeform used his signature move.
"Chaos Control!"
He stopped time and pulled his foot away. His shoe was damaged, not good. He frowned and used his freedom of movement in the halted time to get a free punch into her face. When time resumed, she was sent flying. "My my… that must have been that fancy Chaos Control I heard you're so fond of." Cinder caught herself midair and floated with her flame magic, gently landing herself on the ground.
Sparks fizzled out of Shadow's air shoe. Now that time has resumed, it melted way more than he initially thought. These shoes were as durable as HE was. One can only imagine what would happen if Cinder managed to get a hold of him. "Damn," he muttered to himself. He's going to have to bust up some of his hidden abilities.
"But I think it's about time that I end your life before you can use it again."
With those words spoken, Shadow's eyes glowed with a red energy that amplified his power. His hand shot forward, and he launched his Doom Spear, sending several Chaos Spears at once to pelt Cinder. "What?!" She summons her sword again and slashes a few of them away, but there's too many, and they're coming in too fast. Some of the Doom Spears land and inflict some damage.
Fortunately for the Maiden, her secret weapon was still up her sleeve. She grinds backward from the force of the spears and gives a devilish grin. Shadow threw another Chaos Spear, but it passed through Cinder as she exploded into countless small red cubes.
Reality began to distort around the black hedgehog. Black creatures with white masks began to rise around him. The beautiful scenery of Green Hill Zone began to distort and curve. The monsters moved in to attack, Shadow frowned and began using his martial arts to destroy them. He was restricted because of his broken shoe, but these wolf-like monsters were barely stronger than the average egg pawn. The real issue was how many there were. They kept coming out of nowhere, Shadow had to move.
The hedgehog used a short teleport to avoid getting surrounded. He started running like a certain blue Hedgehog. It was an odd sensation, but Shadow was more than capable of running with his own two feet, even if it was slower without his air skates. Moving around the Green Hill Zone, Shadow destroyed more and more monsters that blocked his path. It was odd, these things looked like animals, but they were dark in color, they drooled like mindless beasts and Shadow could feel the killing intent from each one. If he was anybody else, it would send shivers down his spine.
He heard a loud roar behind him. His eyes widened when he turned around to see an enormous Dragon, bigger than the Biolizard. The Wyvern cast a shadow over Green Hill Zone, it flew over the land, beneath it began leaking black sludge onto the hills below. All sorts of dark creatures emerged from the pitch-black puddles of darkness.
The creatures below began to wreak havoc on the wildlife below. These dark animals began attacking the nearby flickies and other small mobini. They grabbed and tore into the innocent animals before eating them. Shadow's eyes widened at the cruelty that he witnessed, Eggman was never like this. He jumped into the fray and killed as many of the creatures as he could, grabbing the attention of as many of them as he could so the animals that hadn't been eaten yet could get away. Fortunately, the cruel monsters lost interest in the small critters almost immediately once Shadow stopped them. His anger beckons them to their death as he slaughtered them before they could do any more damage.
Undeterred, Shadow finished the last of the smaller monsters that were in the area. Looking back up at the Wyvern, he knew that he wouldn't be able to win without his skates, not against this. At least… that would have been true until a few months ago. The Ultimate Lifeform called upon his hidden abilities and sprouted his Doom Wing. His eyes glowed just like the creatures around him and he was filled with his unlocked potential.
"Rhaaah!" Shadow flew up into the sky and punched the dragon from Hell in the face. This winged demon was too big of a risk to let fly free. He flew around a tail swipe from the dragon, the monster was surprisingly slow.
Shadow zipped around the dragon and peppered it with several Chaos Spears, avoiding the white parts that seemed to be armored. The beast roared out and bit down on its target, catching Shadow in its mouth. The Ultimate Hedgehog stopped the dragon's chomp and stood in its teeth, struggling, but prevailing. Shadow was stronger. He kicked its jaw open and retracted his wings, tucking and rolling into its mouth. "Chaos BLAST!"
The shadowy dragon's eyes widened as it swallowed the hedgehog, red light broke out in rays all over its body before its head exploded from the raw chaos energy that filled its unassuming body.
Shadow emerged from the ashes of the deteriorating dragon. He took note of how the smoke began fading out, in a glitching manner. He then saw that all the creatures had stopped attacking the wildlife. Despite the sudden calmness, Shadow was infuriated. He made a promise to Maria to protect all life, and he failed. Even if they were just small animals, Shadow slipped.
Shadow landed back on a hill, he had to stay focused on the mission at hand. Tapping on his communicator, he stood firm. "This is where Omega was destroyed… but there's no sign of him."
Rouge's voice echoed around Shadow. With a giggle, she responds. "Sure seems that way. Probably because it never really happened!"
"What?" Shadow went wide-eyed as he could tell something was off. No… He had to trust his memories, before the space around him distorted, he knew that he got information that Omega was destroyed. Cinder must be using her strange powers to mess with his head.
Shadow then heard Omega's robotic voice. "A-Affirmative… I have never known d-de-d-defeat!" The walking arsenal's voice grew louder, more exasperated. "I am not defeated. I am not weak. I am not weak. I am not weak. I AM NOT WEAK… I AM NOT WEAK… I AM NOT WEAK." Shadow shook his head and pushed out the echoes of the fake Omega's words, turning off his communicator. The hedgehog wouldn't let Cinder play mind games with him.
A slow clap was heard around in the distorted space, "Bravo, Ultimate Lifeform! The Doctor didn't mention anything about you being able to fly! But now, I can see that you're almost out of power. So…" The murderous Maiden appeared again in a tornado of flames and red cubes, a bow and arrow in hand, aimed at Shadow. "You're easy pickings."
The worn down Hedgehog frowned, and without a second thought, removed his inhibitor rings. "CHAOS…"
"No!" Cinder fired, knowing that only bad things happen when he takes those rings off.
"CONTROL!"
Time should have stopped, but with the strange space distortion happening around them from Cinder's secret ability, paired with the chaotic energy of Shadow's maximum powered Chaos Control, a massive explosion occurred. Shadow and Cinder were both enveloped by a bright light. The hill they stood on vanished in an instant.
"py… r… ha" A girl's voice was heard, screaming. Distraught.
Both of the fighters were launched backwards, miles away. While he was still midair, Shadow shook himself awake. Opening his eyes, he found himself in mid-air, above the nearby ocean that connected to the Green Hill Zone. He looked around and went wide-eyed when he saw another person in free fall. A hedgehog? They didn't look conscious, Shadow couldn't just let this bystander drown. The dark hero grabbed his inhibitor rings and quickly put them back on. He dived down into the water and summoned his Doom Surf. The Dark Arms manta ray quickly formed beneath Shadow's feet and carried him across the water. He jumped into the air and caught the falling hedgehog. Shadow hit the water surfing and made his way to safety. Finding some dark shade to keep hidden, he laid the unknown hedgehog on the ground.
He looked at the young hedgehog and noticed that she was a girl. "Hm…" he took note of her appearance. She wore baggy clothes, a torn and ruined blue hoodie, and some black leggings. Fairly simple clothes, but it's odd, they don't fit her. The most interesting part, her quills were the same shade as Sonic's, and fades to green halfway down the end. On her hands were two claw-like weapons, similar to Omega's hands, wrapping around her wrists in chains, they were broken and had a few odd crystals sticking out.
Shadow checks her pulse and nods when he's reassured that she's alive. He stands up and turns, walking away and looking out to the ocean, turning to his communicator again, contacting Rouge, but she pipes up first. "Shadow? Shadow! Finally the connection's back. What in the world happened? We got readings of a huge explosion! Are you alive?"
"I'm fine." Shadow peeks his head out to look at the hill he was on. His eyes widened when he saw that the structure was just gone. Smoke floated upwards as he saw the crater. "The Doctor has a new super weapon, she's got some deadly fire magic and reality warping abilities."
"She? That's not like old Eggman to make a girl version of you, come back to HQ, the commander is asking for a full report."
"Right. I'll be there soon." He turned off the communicator and got ready to leave, but then he heard the girl behind him groaning. Shadow looked back, seeing her wake up.
"Ugh… my head." The mystery hedgehog sat up and looked around. "What the… where.. am…" her eyes fell on her savior, her eyes widened and she jumped to her feet. She screams and backs up against the wall. "Crap! Get back." She lifts her hands and looks like she tries to attack, but her weapons are clearly broken and fall to the ground. "Crap, crap!" She looks panicked and braces for whatever this dark looking creature is planning. "Get away, Grimm!"
"Calm down, I'm not going to hurt you." Now that Shadow was looking at her, this hedgehog was odd. Those weapons weren't like anything on this planet. Shadow stood firm, and spoke calmly. There was something strange about this girl.
"Wh-what?" *She rubbed her eyes and looked at Shadow again. "oh… sorry." She took a deep sigh of relief. "I thought you were a Grimm… What… are you…?" Looking down at her oversized hands, she jumped. "Wh-what? What happened to me?" she scrambled to a body of water to look at her reflection. "What the hell?!" she began to panic and stumble over her words, getting louder and louder.
Shadow frowned and yanked her back. "Quiet, get out of the open!" The young hedgehog calmed down and looked at the black hedgehog. She took a deep breath and removed Shadow's hand from her mouth. "Okay… let's get out of here… but please don't leave me here… let me grab my weapons… and I'll do what you say."
Surprised by her sudden change of attitude, Shadow nodded. "Fine… stay close." Green Hill Zone was littered with plenty of bots and black monsters. As the two hedgehogs stealthed their way through the hills, The Ultimate Lifeform thought back to what the blue and green Hedgehog called him. 'Grimm?' Maybe that's what these dark animals are called. Questions for later, the mystery hog was surprisingly agile, capable of keeping up with Shadow. He kept an eye and ear out, it didn't seem like the monsters were randomly attacking anymore, they were searching for him.
Once they were in the clear and exited the Zone, the blue and green hedgehog fell to the ground and was breathing heavily. "Okay. First things first… where the hell am I? What did I turn into? What happened to Ruby? Oh… oh god… Pyrrha…" tears suddenly appeared on her face, suddenly remembering the loss of her friend.
"..." Shadow observed carefully, it looks like this girl was going through hell, he knows what that's like. Thinking back to when Rouge woke him up after he was in a coma, he let this poor girl process for a moment. "You're outside of the Green Hill Zone… and you look like a hedgehog to me."
She looked down at her body, frowning at her chest area. "and of course I lose my boobs… great… you said I was a hedgehog right? I'll… take your word on it… Man… did I get Issekai'd? Oh god, did I really die?" The girl sniffled and wiped away some tears. "I can't believe I got killed by my girlfriend on accident and got sent to another world." The girl looked up at her savior once again, realizing that she started rambling again, she got up and bowed politely. "I'm sorry… My name's Bléu. What's yours?"
"Shadow… you called me a Grimm. Is that what those black creatures back there are called?" This girl is just as talkative as Sonic. Looking onwards, Shadow started walking away.
Bléu's brow furrowed as she walked alongside him, catching up to the black and red hog. "Yeah… I'm sorry, you have the same color palette as them, and those red eyes… Keep your emotions in check, they sense negative emotions…" Bléu looked out and explored her new surroundings. "I'm guessing I'm not on Remnant anymore?"
"No. Judging by your reactions, I'm guessing you used to be a more human-like species?" Shadow now knew that this girl had to be a valuable source of information. Just then, his air shoe sparked again. "Damn!" He stomped out the fire beneath him.
"Yes… that's exactly what I am… are there humans here too?" She noticed his damaged shoe. "I can fix those if you want!"
"... I'll take you to G.U.N. they're the biggest military on the planet." he motioned for her to follow him.
"Not much of a talker… makes sense given your name."
"Hmph." The two hedgehogs continued to the government headquarters.
Hours later; at a secret Eggman Base
"You let him use Chaos Control! I said not to underestimate that hog!" An peculiar egg-shaped scientist shouted at Cinder. Doctor Eggman was livid at this failure by the blood red fox.
"There's no way he survived a blast that large. Calm down." Cinder rolled her eyes and looked at her nails.
"That blasted hedgehog survived a fall from orbit! If you survived that blast, then there's no question that he did as well." Eggman sat in his chair, rubbing the bridge of his nose, clearly upset by this setback. He spun around in his chair and tapped a few keys on his computer, pulling up the recording of Shadow and Cinder's fight, "That blast wasn't just an explosion, you see that? That structure was completely teleported to another location, there's no debris."
"What are you saying Doctor?" Cinder frowned, looking at the recording.
"I'm saying the power of Shadow's Chaos Control and the Phantom Ruby created a singularity which created a portal to another world! It's possible that this portal is what brought you to this world."
"That's impossible. I've already been here for months!" The Maiden spat, aggravated at the doctor's yapping.
Eggman shook his head. continuing his explanation, "Anything can happen with space-time portals created like this. Your Phantom Ruby still isn't perfected, and Shadow used a lot of chaos energy to stop you from killing him. That made the portal unstable, and you were sent back in time. It's quite possible that this explosion-"
Cinder listened to the doctor as she watched the recording. "Wait… pause." She pushed Eggman out of the way and noticed something strange when Shadow and Cinder were knocked away. "I see one too many hedgehogs. There was no one else on that hill, was that me from two months ago?"
"Erk!" Eggman toppled over and yelled as he scrambled to his feet. "No… you would have already been sent back in time at that point."
"Then who. The hell. Is that?!" Cinder had an idea of who it was, and it fueled her rage. Her eyes flared up and the room got hotter.
"It's likely someone that was in the same vicinity as you… before you were sent here." With that confirmation, Cinder turned around and walked out. "And where do you think you're going?"
"To kill that silver-eyed meddler!" The room got even hotter, Cinder was livid and determined to have her revenge.
Eggman stormed after her. "Not after that blunder you're not! I still need to perfect the Phantom Ruby!"
Cinder turned around and summoned her flame sword again, raising it to Eggman's chin. "You can't stop me. That brat needs to die for what she d-"
Eggman pressed a button on his hand and the suit that Cinder was wearing began shocking her. The Maiden shouted out in pain as she fell to the floor, writhing in pain. "Now now dear Cinder… I hope you didn't forget our little arrangement. I saved your life, fitted you with my latest and greatest project, and you do what I say."
"When… did you…"
"I designed your suit. You think I would just let a super powered creature such as yourself run around without a collar?" He wagged his finger disapprovingly. "No, I've controlled plenty of god-like beings in my time. With less precautions, mind you. You make the same mistake enough times, you start to learn your limits… And you." Eggman leaned in close, "I can handle you." The shocking stopped and Eggman walked away. "Head to your quarters… and I'll let you know when I've perfected it…" The Doctor's cold words cut through Cinder's resolve like a hot knife through butter, Cinder realized the collar around her neck. She gasped and coughed a bit, catching her breath. She shouted and unleashed her rage, destroying the computer behind her with a fireball. This was the second time she was tricked into insubordination. The red fox stormed out of the room, racking her brain at how her life turned out like this.

I wanted to start writing my own stories again, role-playing with other people just doesn't hit the same way as making your own story where you can control everything!
