Back in Great Lakes City, the Casagrandes' Apartment seems to have fallen into a state of depression. It had been a long while since anyone got word from Carlota or those who went to find her. There had been an eerie feeling surrounding the family who did their regular things without the same enthusiasm they once had, and the family members dressed in black.
Even Carl, who he and Carlota don't really get along very well, was starting to feel the effects of loss. He gave himself a look in the mirror, trying to admire himself, but only found the same depression that everyone else was feeling.
Carl:"Man, what is up with me? It's only been a few weeks...right?"
And that is when he felt a hand over his shoulder, belonging to his brother, CJ. The Casagrande with the childlike whimsy was always one to notice things before others, even when members of his family are hurting the most. Even when he didn't seem to want it, CJ knew Carl needed it.
Carl:"What are you doing, man?"
CJ:"I know you miss Carlota. We all do. No need to hide it."
Carl:"Miss her? Me miss her? Ha! When have we ever missed each other? She doesn't even like me."
CJ:"She cares in her own way. I have hopes that she won't stop until she's home."
Carl had a feeling that CJ was right, but he could never admit it. The one who was taking the loss of Carlota the worst was Rosa, as she was cooking so depressingly and lifelessly. Every meal she cooked so far was one of Carlota's favorites, since she could not stop thinking of her granddaughter.
Hector went over to his loving wife to give her as much comfort as he could give her. Though, he knew the only way to get out of this funk was that if their family was whole again.
Hector:"Rosa, mi amor, por favor intenta tener fe en nuestra familia. I know that Frida and the kids are doing everything they can to find her."
Rosa:"Oh, but how much longer shall we wait? I just want us to all be together again."
Hector:"I know. But that is why our family must be strong and determined. We will be together again before you know it."
And he was right. Just as Rosa was starting to feel better, they heard something coming from outside the apartment.
Ronnie Anne:"(at a distance) We're home!"
And that is when everyone else starts rushing over to the living room. First, they see Frida with Bobby and Lincoln, but then they see a familiar face that they've been wanting to see for a while.
Carlota:"...Uh, hey everyone."
And that is when she was practically tackled by her family, wrapped in a loving, yet crushing hug. Lincoln, Bobby, and Frida watched this awkwardly, but happily. Everyone seemed happy to see her again, crying tears of joy as their family was once more whole.
Carlota:"Yep! It's good to be home!"
Carlos:"Please, don't ever do something like that again."
Carlota:"(sarcastically) You mean survive a plane crash, get trapped in a weird jungle, and fight a vicious tribal cult? Okay, I'll try to avoid that next time."
Frida:"Hopefully, there won't be any chance of that happening ever again."
Carlota:"Oh, and I brought some friends over."
That is when she decided to introduce her family to Jane, Malika, Tricia, Kimberly, Dani, Wilma, and Angelica. Carl and CJ blushed at the sight of the pretty girls, but CJ and Carl noticed something else.
Carl:"Why is the door full of flesh?"
They all looked to see what he meant, and indeed there was seemingly a mass of flesh trying to push its way through the doorway. It was Fumi, and behind her was Ronnie Anne, trying to push her through with both hands.
Fumi:"We'll be in just a minute."
Ronnie Anne:"Rrrrgh! Maybe a bit longer."
Carlota:"We can help. (to her family) Oh yeah, speed round (points to friends), family, these are my new friends, new friends, these are my family. Now, please help me get them through the door."
And with that, Frida and Kimberly helped with Fumi giving Carlota her hand so that she could make the pulling easier. It took a long minute, but they were able to pop Fumi through...unfortunately, she landed on top of the ones pulling her, with Ronnie Anne landing on top of her.
Ronnie Anne:"Ugh. We should've just let everyone come out instead of going in. Is everyone okay?"
Carlota:"(muffled) Considering I'm squished under one of my new friends, I'm just happy to be home."
She peaks her head out under Fumi, as do the rest of the girls. Everyone was a little take back that a big girl like Fumi was almost able to take up the whole apartment.
Carl:"Ooooh! She is so huge! She has got to be like the biggest sumo wrestler I've ever seen!"
Fumi:"I'll take that as a compliment."
Malika:"You got a nice place here."
Angelica:"Yeah. It sure as heck beats living in a jungle."
Carlota:"Boy, I'll say! And don't worry, girls. I know you all have your own lives and families to get back to, and we're gonna help you along with that."
Kimberly:"Well, we appreciate that, Carlota. But how exactly are you gonna help us?"
Carlos:"I can make some phone calls."
Maria:"As can I."
Carlota:"And until now, why not make yourselves comfortable? I want to get ready for us to go out on the town!"
Angelica:"A night in the city?! I haven't had one of those in forever!"
Wilma:"I'm in."
Dani:"Sounds fun!"
Malika:"We're all in too."
Fumi:"Count me in as well."
A little while later, they were outside their apartment building...well, most of them were. Fumi was being pulled out of the doorway by Carlota and Kimberly. It took about 30 seconds, and she popped right out. Ronnie Anne and Lincoln were also there as they now prepared for their day out, with Carlota having gotten her new friends some normal clothes now.
(This wasn't clear before, but before they made it back to Great Lake City, the girls were given some regular plain clothes by Homeland Security.)
Kimberly wore a dark purple tight jacket with a white tank top underneath, black pants, and white shoes with red stripes; her white hair was now cut, reaching her elbows with cornrows. Jane wore a tight blue shirt with a navy blue vest, matching navy blue cargo pants with black boots, and her hair now in a bob cut. Malika wore a similar dress to that of Carlota's signature look, which was green with blue tye dye, along with Dark green stockings and brown shoes. Angelica now wore a large brown jacket, Blue tights, green heels, and a dark purple beret. Carlota thought of giving Wilma a rather stereotypical Scottish look: a white button blouse with a generic kilt, matching white knee socks, black shoes, and a Harris tweed hat that matched her kilt. Dani wore a Yellow polo shirt, grey jeans, and white sneakers. Last but not least, Fumi wore a tight, neon-pink hoodie that was a bit too small and showed off her gut, as well as only covering her chest; she also wore blue for the pants, white for the sandals, and her hair was now done in two small pigtails.
Looking at all their new looks, Carlota admired their styles.
Carlota:"You're all looking good girls."
Fumi:"Thanks. You know, I'm surprised you were able to find pants my size."
Carlota:"You're welcome. You just gotta know the best designers."
Carl:"(peers from doorway) She means herself ya know."
Carlota:"Hmm, no. I mean Leni."
Cuts to Leni sitting be a table, working on designer clothing. Specifically, a set of extra large clothing with a sign that says "Clothes for extra large people." As she was doing so, she gave the reader a wink.
Lincoln:"How'd you get my sister to make that kind of clothing?"
Carlota:"I asked, and she was all for it. (to the girls) Alright, so are you all ready for the tour?"
Girls:"(in unison) YES!"
Malika:"Where are we going first?"
Ronnie Anne:"One of my favorite places to visit."
Specifically, the park. However, the girls were not too fond of it since they already spent years in that cursed jungle.
Wilma:"I don't know about this. We've seen enough wilderness for a lifetime."
Carlota:"I can assure you that this park is much better than the jungle. Besides...the jungle doesn't have food stands."
She gestures to a hot dog stand that was rolling by and the girls' eyes light up at the sight of it, Fumi most of all enchanted by the sight of it.
Carlota:"I know it's been a while since you've all had normal food. You could get some if you like."
And that's when they all charged and tackled the entire cart, making the vendor crawl away. Lincoln, Ronnie Anne, and Carlotta watched with widened eyes as the girls crowded around the hot dog stand, trying to get as many hot dogs as they each could. Fumi, of course, was getting the most out of them while the three stood idly by and just couldn't look away.
Lincoln:"Gee, they must really miss civilized food."
Carlota:"Especially Fumi."
A little moment after that, Lincoln, Ronnie Anne, Fumi, Carlota, and Kimberly were sitting on a park bench, exclusively in that order, the bench bending under Fumi's weight while the others sat on the grass. The 4 were slightly squished by Fumi's girth, but Ronnie Anne didn't mind since she found Fumi rather cozy.
Ronnie Anne:"You're really warm."
Fumi:"Thanks."
Jane:"You know, this park really is nice."
Carlota:"Well, living in the city does have its perks."
Both she and Ronnie Anne did a fist bump from that comment.
Tricia:"Oh, we all know about the benefits of living in the city. And we want to rediscover them all."
Carlota:"Well, that's what I'm here for. Who wants this tour to really begin?"
And they all raise their hands.
Ronnie Anne:"I'm liking this idea more and more."
And with that, they started off their tour by checking out one of the city's fabled Observation Towers. 'Course, it...took a little while for them to get up there, since there was only one elevator up, and there were about 11 of them. It took three trips, Lincoln, Ronnie Anne, Carlota, and Kimberly first, Malika, Jane, Tricia, and Angelica second, and Wilma, Dani, and Fumi for the last trip. Dani and Wilma were a bit smushed up next to Fumi, with the Latina by her left, the Scottish girl on the right, and the two of them feeling uncomfortable with the sumo wrestler taking up most of the space in the middle...
Dani:"Boy, I hope the cable doesn't snap."
Fumi:"(annoyed) Shut up."
The last trip took a little longer than the first two. But they all made it to the top regardless and the girls got a magnificent view of the city.
Carlota:"How are you girls liking it so far?"
Angelica:"Well, we've never really seen Great Lake City until now."
Tricia:"Pretty sure that was obvious."
Kimberly:"Well, there's still so much to explore. So, let's have at it."
Getting a map of the city at their disposal, the group continues on their tour with a good old-fashioned montage. First, they start with the zoo, where they see zebras, monkeys, and even giraffes happily, and the girls are partly reminded of their time in the jungle since they never really get to see normal animals like these up close. Then, they head to the art gallery where they see a lot of masterpieces, taking a few pictures among them, with Fumi reminiscent of her wrestling days when she saw a depiction of sumo fighters, and a landscape painting of a wilderness continued to remind the girls of the time in the jungle.
However, one thing led to another with one of them touching something on display, causing it to topple over and fall against other things, which in turn fall like dominos. They were forced to get out of there before security was called.
Then after that, they headed off to the arcade where they cheer on Lincoln and Ronnie Anne on a dance arcade game, and Dani and Wilma duking it out against Malika and Jane in laser tag. Everyone was having fun on an arcade game, except for Carlota, who laid back on this since games weren't really her thing, but they respected that.
Though, when Kimberly was playing a game called Caveman Ninja: Joe & Mac, Lincoln and Ronnie Anne could see that she was losing on purpose. Probably because it brought along a bad memory of the cult from the jungle. They left her to it until they finished up in the arcade.
And then, finally, they get a slice at the pizza joint they did not know the name of. They had two tables, with Lincoln and Ronnie Anne sitting beside Jane, Angelica, Wilma, and Dani while Carlota sat alongside Fumi, Kimberly, Malika, and Tricia. Fumi needed three chairs to use for sitting as Carlotta was going over what they would be ordering.
Carlota:"Fumi, I know a gal like you would probably have a big appetite, so I'm gonna see to getting you the order you need."
Fumi:"In that case...would you get me 4 pizzas, please?"
Carlota went wide-eyed from that order but then found it understandable.
Kimberly:"Well...it's not like the rest of us have any money at the moment."
Carlota:"I...guess I'll just take care of paying."
All the while, the girls at the other table were talking to Lincoln and Ronnie Anne about some of the things they had to do to survive in the jungle. Specifically, what their first time hunting was like.
Wilma:"And we waited hours for that boar to come by and it almost got away and we...tripped over ourselves a few times, but we finally had it, skewered it in one go."
Lincoln:"Wow..."
Ronnie Anne:"Hmm..."
Carlota smiled at seeing her cousin and her friend have a good time with her new friend as their food arrived. Six pizzas, 2 pizzas for the other table, 4 for Fumi, and some breadsticks. Everyone was soon enjoying their meal, Carlota especially, now milking the chance to relax and enjoy herself the right way after her entire adventure. But there were still some things on her mind.
Carlota:"So...what are you all gonna do, now that you're free?"
All the girls looked at each other, thinking about this before answering...
Malika:"...I got some family down in Tennessee. They'll hook me up with a nice quiet desk job."
Tricia:"I'm thinking of becoming a yoga instructor. All the time in the jungle really made me want to become more flexible. Not sure where I'm gonna live though."
Carlota:"How about we get you set up someplace here?"
Tricia:"That'd be nice. Way better than where I used to live."
Malika:"Where did you-?"
Tricia:"Don't ask."
Kimberly:"I want to see my family again..."
That is when she pulls out a picture of her parents. Her mother was Caucasian with chin-length white hair dreadlocks, the same as Kimberly's, and she wore a beige sweater, red blouse, moss green skirt, and purple slippers. Her father was a black man navy blue flannel shirt over a white tank top and well-worn blue jeans with shiny dark brown shoes.
Kimberly:"Last I saw them, they were waving goodbye from the marina we lived near. I'm not even sure if they're still there anymore, or if they missed me."
Carlota:"I'm sure they are waiting for you to come home. Have faith."
That did make Kimberly feel a little better. She can't wait to see them again.
Fumi:"I think it's back to wrestling for me. I got myself a title to regain, and 44 opponents waiting for some rematches and comebacks."
Carlota:"44 opponents?"
Fumi:"Yeah. I was able to do 42 matches before I lost and never made it to another when I got stuck in that jungle."
Carlota:"...That's pretty awesome."
Fumi:"Yep. That's how I am."
Jane:"I'm thinking of joining up with the Marines of the U.S. Military. All the time in the jungle really got my confidence going, that I would want to go back out there."
Carlota:"Good for you, Jane! Just try and be careful, okay?"
Dani:"I'm gonna head back to New Mexico to see my papi and little bro."
She pulls out a picture of her semi-tan father with greying hair, wearing a light blue polo shirt, and grey jeans with brown shoes, and her little brother who looked around CJ's age in the picture, had short black hair and was wearing a dark purple turtleneck shirt, and jet black pants. His name was written underneath his picture, "Kairo".
Dani:"They've probably been missing me. And I want to get back to my job as a machinist."
Angelica:"You were a machinist?"
Dani:"Funny, isn't it?"
Wilma:"I guess it's back to the Highlands to me."
Lincoln:"You're going to Scotland? My family has a castle there!"
Wilma:"I thought you looked familiar...Duke."
Angelica:"Something I want to get into is gymnastics. I want to pursue a chance of going to the Olympics."
Ronnie Anne:"I'm sure you'll be great at that."
Carlota:"And I'll try to guarantee that you all make it home and live out your dreams."
They all felt at ease, knowing that Carlota could definitely help out with their problems. Fumi even gave her a pat on the back, which was a little too hard, making Carlota feel pushed forward and shake the table. But she laughed and shrugged it off.
After getting a bite to eat, they headed back to the Apartment, where the girls were about to go their separate ways...but not before getting another bite to eat.
Carlota:"Anybody in for a snack? My grandmother makes seconds, and it's often a bit much for us."
Fumi:"I always have room for more."
Wilma:"Sure. It's been a while since I've had a homemade meal."
Dani:The smell reminds me of my own mother's cooking."
Ronnie Anne:"How's that?"
Dani:"It's a good thing. It smells delicious."
Lincoln:"So, what are you girls gonna do before moving out of the state? You gonna stick around this apartment building?"
Ronnie Anne:"I don't think they can, Lincoln. There's no vacancy."
Kimberly:"Plus...(points to Fumi) Some of us take up too much space. We'll be moving into some other buildings around town before we go on our ways."
Carlota:"Well, I'll be sure to keep in touch with you guys."
They were all happy to hear that and they got into a group hug.
Lincoln:"You girls gonna need help with settling in?"
Kimberly:"Oh, not really. We don't have much at the moment, anyway. We'll see you around, Carlota."
And that's when they all started to leave, one by one. Fumi was the last, and as the inevitable would have it, she got stuck in the doorframe, trying to move her legs and walk while stuck through the doorway.
Fumi:"A little help?"
Rolling her eyes, Carlota hoped this would eventually stop as she helped Fumi one last time, pushing with her hands against the big girl's brick wall of a behind before she eventually popped out and stumbled back onto her feet. With seeing her new friends finally go on their way, Carlota took a breather, knowing that this adventure was finally over.
Carlota:"(giggles) I'm gonna miss them."
Ronnie Anne:"Well, it's like you said, Carlota, you'll keep in touch with them."
Carlota:"Yeah..."
Lincoln:"Are they gonna be okay?"
Carlota:"They survived a supernatural jungle. I think they'll be fine. Speaking of which, ever since I got back, I haven't really got a chance to relax. Wanna help me with that and bring it in?"
The two kids smiled and gave Carlota their own group hug, full of love and comfort.
Ronnie Anne:"(whispers) That's my Carlota."
