Not to toot my own horn… but I will. This chapter is peak, absolute cinema.
Review:
Some1call4MR-E: I mean… I made Ruby date a super Omega Avenger Level threat gooner, so I think she can handle swearing (heck, she might swear more than Bléu when they do those "intimate poses" that Penny was talking about). As for Cream, she's not in Forces, so she won't be included anyway. And as for Tails… He's a big boy, I'm not gonna hold his hand. Speaking of which, I've always read that Tails is basically on par with Eggman as an intellectual, this is what I choose to go off of.
A Greater Power
Bléu had just finished doing her wibbly wobbly shit on her new weapons. The Wispons were no more as Viel Klaue could now hold Wisps inside. "Alright, you two. you can each take one." The mechanic said as she presented her claw/buster weapons to her new Burst and Lightning Wisp friends.
"P $ 8 2 V W!" " $ J 2 !" The Wisps chirped and flew around the Bléunette, causing her to giggle. They phased into her upgraded Viel Klaue causing her weapons to glow with their respective colors.
"Hmmm…" Bléu studied the Wisps as they spoke, trying to figure out what they were saying. Shrugging, the girl hedgehog began testing her new weapons and shot her clawshot out a few times.
Sonic saw that she was ready to go and narrowed his eyes. "I've been meaning to ask you. Have you ever met a guy named Link? Tall guy, brownish blonde hair, fights with a wicked cool sword and shield, about as courageous as a person can be?"
Bléu looks up and thinks back to her memories. "No, not anyone by that name. The only tall blonde swordsman I know is a fumbling loser who cheated his way into a school that could kill him at any point."
"Yikes, that bad?" Sonic said as they started running through the factory that they got back to destroying.
"His only saving grace is that everyone finds him endearing and he has enough Aura to just tank most good hits." Bléu sighed as she thought about Jaune.
"Sounds like you're not a fan."
"Of stupid people? No, not in particular…" Bléu used her flamethrower to melt a group of robots.
Trying to steer Bléu into a more positive mood, he smirked, "Probably shouldn't hang around ol' Knucklehead for too long then." Sonic chuckled.
[I can still hear you!] Knuckles did not chuckle.
"Why bring up blonde swordsmen anyway?" Bléu said as she swung from her clawshot.
Sonic jumped over her head and smashed a Buzz Bomber. "Your weapon. When you use the claw form, it looks exactly like something he would use as a tool. Only you use them as your main weapon."
"Weird… I've never met anyone named Link. Maybe he just had the same great idea. I designed these myself." She said as she landed on her feet.
Sonic landed right next to her. "And I'm assuming you also don't know Mega Man? He's got a gun for a hand that looks like your weapon's other form."
Bléu changed Viel Klaue to its buster cannon form and frowned. "Dang, and here I thought I was being unique. I made a lot of different weapons back home to figure out what worked for me alone. As far as I'm aware, I'm the first person to invent these, at least in my dimension."
"Hey, sorry! Don't wanna send you into another existential crisis." Sonic raised his hands in defense.
Bléu shook her head. "Nope, too tired to do that again. Let's just finish up and go home."
"Wanna do the Double Boost again?"
"Bet."
Back at Eggman's 100th secret base, Shadow and Vector just beat Almighty The Jackal. Shadow now had two Chaos Emeralds collected.
Tails flew out of the secret base and quickly met up with Shadow and Vector. "Didjya get it?" The crocodile approached and sweatdropped.
Tails flashed a smile as he pulled out a data drive. Plugging it into one of his devices, a display popped up. "Eggman never stood a chance." He said, trying to act cool to hide his fear of the three-day warning.
"I'm sure I'll have better odds."
Back at the pyramid, Bléu and Sonic did another Double Boost to finish up destroying the factory. After they demolished the fake pyramid, the blue girl stretched. "Ugh. Even the adrenaline isn't helping. As soon as we get back, I'm going to sleep for like… At least three days."
[And you guys are sure you didn't find anything about Eggman's new weapon?] Amy said through the intercom.
"I checked all the computers as we passed and smashed them. Nothing about Cinder or her new weapon… But, oddly enough, I think I know more about her new power than her old one."
[What's that Rookie?] Knuckles asked.
"When she first attacked, she used Grimm. They're dark monsters fueled by hatred. But I don't think they were real, none of the Grimm interacted with the buildings or other inanimate objects, just people. I wonder, is it possible that it's based on perception? Maybe even cognition?"
[Uhh]
[I think she's saying that the enemies we've been re-fighting are fakes that only exist for us, right?] Amy tried wrapping her head around this.
Bléu nodded and hummed in agreement. "Most likely. When a Grimm dies in my world, they turn into ash and fade away into nothingness. Whenever I've killed one here, they get all glitchy and make a weird sound."
"That's what happened when I beat Zavok. Whatever this weird power is, it's strong enough to affect robotic minds too, because Zavok was controlling robots left and right like he did back on the Lost Hex."
"Controlling robots? Like my Semblance?"
"Yeah but… stronger and without needing to touch stuff."
"Lame, I need to practice my Semblance more…" The blue and green hedgehog pouted as she crossed her arms.
[Hey, what? Someone is breaching this comm channel!] Knuckles shouted.
[H-he-h-Hello?]
Sonic immediately recognized his best bud's voice. "Tails! Boy, am I glad to hear your-"
[SONIC! It's the red fox woman! Cinder! She's here in the Mystic Jungle! She's fighting Shadow… and winning!]
Sonic's eyes widened. "I'm on my way! Just need to make a little detour first." The blue hedgehog blasted off, leaving Bléu in the dust.
Letting out a huge sigh, the younger blue hedgehog was left behind by yet another super fast hog breaking the sound barrier. [Rookie, come back to base. You need to get some rest.]
"Shadow's with them, right?"
[Yeah, but…]
"Where is Mystic Jungle? We can kill Cinder right now." Bléu frowned as she started running in the direction that Sonic went.
Amy spoke up. [Bléu… we try not to kill people willy nilly here. Just come back and we-]
"Her actions killed hundreds of people! It would have been thousands if I hadn't stopped the Atlas robots! She's already killed in this world! She killed one of my friends! Sonic and Shadow might not even be enough!"
Just then, Sonic dashed into the Resistance Base. "Knuckles!" The red-haired echidna nodded, tossing the red, blue, and green Chaos Emeralds to the blue blur.
"Oh, we got the one out of Omega?"
"Sure did. Go kick some ass, Sonic." With a smirk, Sonic nodded and boosted out of the base to the Jungle.
Amy punched Knuckles. "Cream is RIGHT there!" The pink hedgehog frowned as she pointed over to Cream and her mom who were playing.
"Right, sorry Vanilla." Knuckles apologized to the scowling mother. Fortunately, Cream seemed to be too distracted playing with Gemerl.
"Oh, she hears worse at home." Vanilla waves it off (A/n: And they never show up again.)
Amy took over the microphone. "Bléu, just come back to the base. Sonic picked up the Emeralds, and knowing Shadow, he probably has one or two on him anyway. They'll be able to beat Cinder now, please just trust them."
After a few moments of pause, a sigh was heard through the intercom. [Fine.]
Sonic made it to the Jungle and ran through the hordes of robots. Eggman had ships dropping bombs like confetti. Groaning, Sonic knew he had to handle these first. Eggman's forces were fighting the Resistance Forces, so getting rid of those airships would greatly turn the battle in their favor.
"This is the end! We're doomed!" A soldier dropped to his knees as his squadron was surrounded.
Sonic did a quick boost around the Squadron and looked back. "C'mon guys, you can't give up now, I just got here!" He said with a smirk before revving up a Spin Dash and launching off into the air from a nearby ramp, using the ramp as a ramp.
Everyone's eyes went wide before the Squad leader got back on his feet. "You saw him, the Blue Blur is back! We can win!" He raised his fist and the other soldiers cheered behind.
Sonic flew through the air and landed on each dropship, busting up the machines that were dropping bombs. He couldn't destroy them all at once with so many people and wildlife below, but he could prevent them from dropping more bombs. Dashing between each airship, Sonic finished and dropped back down to the ground, running to where Tails and Cinder were.
Cinder… was livid. She had gained all this power, she was able to easily defeat the so-called 'Fastest Thing Alive' and 'The Ultimate Lifeform' by herself. Her Maiden power was unmatched, her Phantom Ruby just made everyone inconsequential.
SO WHY IS SHE HAVING SO MUCH TROUBLE WITH THIS DAMN BADGER?!
Her opponent was all over the place. Sticks' chaotic Florida Man powers were in full effect as she managed to dodge Cinder's fire magic, avoiding the power of the Phantom Ruby. The Fall Maiden screamed like a banshee at Sticks The Badger. "WHY. WON'T. YOU. JUST. DIE?!" Her head suddenly collided with a coconut.
"YOU'LL NEVER TAKE ME ALIVE!" The badger shouted back. "Wah!" She jumped out of the way of a massive fireball. "Or dead!" The badger threw another pebble at the red fox, landing a direct hit on her forehead.
Despite her surprisingly perfect aim, the crazy badger girl has only managed to make the Maiden angry. "I was just going to let you go, but killing you will make a statement to the other 'heroes,' I will shatter their hope with your blood!" Cinder said, smiling at her own words.
"You're gonna eat your words… when Sonic gets here," Vector said as he helped Tails up. The smaller twin-tailed fox was on the floor, beaten and battered with burns all over his body.
Cinder scoffed. "I've already defeated that blue rodent once before. Between him and that foolish Ultimate Lifeform that I just killed, your heroes are nothing before my power!"
"Does anyone but you believe your LIES?!" Sticks shouted as she pointed at the slightly less crazy furry.
Every word from these feral woodland creatures pissed the genocidal woman off. Her right eye flared up with Maiden magic and frowned as she dashed towards the badger to rip her head off.
But an annoying Blue Blur slammed into her, stopping her assault. Sonic stood in front of Sticks as Cinder was sent back to the air. "Alright Sticks, tag out."
"No way! I got her on the ropes!"
"Sticks, you're missing an ear and you've got a branch sticking out of your leg…"
"It's just a flesh wound."
"Sonic!"
"Tails!" Sonic sped over to his best buddy, a worried look on his face. Once making sure that he wasn't permanently damaged, his smile returned. "Don't worry little buddy, I got it from here."
Cinder kept herself afloat and shook her head from the impact, she saw the hedgehog and smirked. "Ah, speak of the arrogant speedy hero himself. Here I was hoping for a different annoying blue hedgehog."
"Aw, and here I thought you would be happy to see me. We've got so much to catch up on!" Sonic smirked, walking back and forth. "Have you picked up any new hobbies in the past six months? Are you still hanging out with old Egghead? Oh, what about the secret of your power? You can just answer the last question if you'd like."
Cinder winced at the hedgehog's snide remark. His cheerful demeanor despite his disadvantages was insulting. Every opponent that she faced knew that they were powerless, she always played the game in a way that her enemy simply never had a chance. But Sonic kept a smile on through it all. He wasn't afraid, despite all of the pain and suffering that she has caused, he's still confident that he'll win.
"The secret of my power…" The red fox smiled and her single eye flared up once again. "You will be dead in a few moments, but I suppose I can grant a final request. Since you don't seem to fully grasp the full extent of my abilities." Sonic tapped on his communicator so that everyone could hear. "In my world, there exist four Maidens that possess great magical powers. I stole this magic power from the Fall Maiden. Once I kill you, I'll find Bléu, and I'll take her head." Flames began to revolve around the new Maiden. "Then once Ruby has suffered like I have, I'll kill her and find the other Maidens, and take their powers. Then nobody will stand in my way!"
Bléu shivered from Cinder's words as she ran back from Green Hill Zone. She looked at her communicator and gasped as she tripped over a small red and black rock.
"That's it? You just want power? Pretty lame motivation for a supervillain if you ask me." Sonic crossed his arms.
Cinder was yet again insulted as her grand monologue was treated so callously. Her face twisted into a hateful glare. Using her Phantom Ruby powers to lift Sonic off the ground, keeping him suspended in the air.
"Sonic!" Tails reached for his bro, but The Fall Maiden rushed into him and punched him away.
Sonic landed on a giant snake statue and looked over to Cinder who was flying at him at an alarming rate. "Uh oh!" The blue hero broke out into a dash and began avoiding Cinder's flame attacks. Sonic zipped along the long snake statue, Cinder yelled out as she followed close behind, throwing fireballs at the speedy hero.
Sonic smirked as he twirled around the snake, wrapping his speed trail around the snake. Cinder flew around the snakeway and struggled to keep up with him, losing sight of the hedgehog entirely. "What?!"
Sonic was suddenly behind the furious fox and threw a punch. The Fall Maiden was sent hurtling down onto the snake pole. With a smirk, Sonic stuck the landing and rubbed his nose confidently.
"You filthy sewer rat!" Cinder raised her fist which was covered by cloth and threw it down onto the statue.
The statue practically exploded from the impact and Sonic was forced to jump from debris to debris. "Haven't you ever seen a hedgehog before? Wait, do you even HAVE hedgehogs on Remnant?" Sonic quipped as he jumped from rock to rock.
Cinder shouted out in rage as she quickly flew up to Sonic and used the Phantom Ruby on him. She backhanded the blue blur into the grass, and that odd noise was heard again… alongside a lot of growling.
"I'll admit, you're better than the other scum. But you won't survive this time!" Cinder barked as her creatures of Grimm began to rise. The Fall Maiden laughed as her creatures began to surround the blue hedgehog. "Now die!"
Cinder was about to throw another fireball, but Shadow jumped from the trees and tackled Cinder out of the air. The brave-hearted hero grabbed the red fox by the throat and readied a punch. "I'm not done with you yet!"
Sonic smiled at the fact that Shadow wasn't gone, but now he was left with The Grimm.
At the base
Bléu finally made it back to the Resistance Base and sighed as she took off her communicator. She walked by Amy and Knuckles who were watching Sonic fighting some Grimm. "Bed… Where?" The Bléuberry could barely keep her eyes open as she asked.
Suddenly, a few loud hydraulic slams were heard from the hall. "I'LL TAKE YOU THERE BLÉU!" The small hedgehog yelped in surprise as Penny's voice was filtered through Omega's voice modulator.
"AHHH." Bléu screamed in fear before realizing that Penny was in control of Omega's body. "Oh, hi Penny."
"SALUTATIONS!" Omega's body waved happily with his big-ass knife hands. "I'VE MADE A LOT OF NEW FRIENDS SINCE YOU'VE BEEN GONE!"
Bléu, now more awake by this unusual scene, sighed. "O-okay… uh." She was hesitant to get close, the fragile Bléunette knew that Omega had the power to crush her like a toothpick.
"WHAT'S THAT?... OH, YEAH. OMEGA WANTS YOU TO PUT ME BACK INTO OMOCHAO." Penny said as she raised the empty husk of the blue robot chao with a nervous giggle. "I THINK I'M INVADING HIS PERSONAL SPACE."
"And he… won't attack me right?"
Omega spoke up for the first time since he's been back. "I WILL NOT PUNCH YOU."
"Oddly specific…" Bléu pouted before she approached the big red robot and used her Semblance to move OmegaPenny to OmoPenny. With her aura drained and her body almost going limp, the exhausted hedgehog blinked a few times as she watched Omega walk away to a corner and power down.
OmoPenny fluttered around her blue friend and bumped into her to keep the girl awake. "Come on, let's get you to the sleeping quarters!" Penny said happily. Once Bléu finally collapsed onto the first bed she saw, a strange stone fell out of her hoodie pocket. "Huh?"
Back in the Jungle
Sonic did a backflip to avoid the claws of a Beowolf. He rolled up into a ball and used his Homing Attack to defeat the small group of wolf demons. Landing on the ground, he ducked under the giant Ursa paw that was aimed at mauling the hedgehog. He jumped right into the dark bear's stomach and made a hole through it, coming out of the other side.
Normally the blue hero wouldn't be using this amount of force on anything that looked like living animals, but from the way Bléu explains these 'Grimm' monsters, they're bad news anyway. Even if these weren't projections from Cinder's new power, The Grimm are soulless killing machines that hate humanity and animal-like humans. To Sonic, it was the same as busting up any badnik.
A pair of Boarbatusks jumped from the bushes and began revving up to dash. Just like Sonic's Spin Dash. "Hey! That's MY move! I didn't get any royalty checks in the mail!" Sonic said with a frown before curling up into a ball. He revved up his own Spin Dash and the three spinning hogs dashed towards each other.
At the last second before their collision, Sonic steered to the right and let the two boars knock into each other. They stopped spinning and got dizzy. Sonic rolled back around and sliced right through the two Boarbatusks like a buzz saw.
With a smirk, Sonic ran off towards where Shadow and Cinder were fighting. He heard the sound of the Phantom Ruby again and picked up his pace. Seeing a good place to get a sneak attack, Sonic sprung into action. This time, the blue hedgehog needed a little bit more oomph. He pulled out the green Chaos Emerald and charged up an attack.
Shadow saw this behind Cinder and raised his hand. "Sonic, don't touch her!"
Sonic blinked, but he was already too close. Cinder saw Shadow's shouting as a warning and turned around, she dodged Sonic's punch and she delivered a punch of her own that created a small explosion that sent all three of them in separate directions.
Sonic groaned as he got back up and rubbed his head. "Ugh. That's gonna hurt in the morning." Shadow teleported next to Sonic and pinned him against a tree. "Shadow? What's-"
The black and red-haired hedgehog covered Sonic's mouth. "Quiet." Cinder flew overhead and missed them. Removing his hand, The Ultimate Lifeform took a few steps back and watched as Cinder flew away. "Cinder is using a powerful gem called the Phantom Ruby. It creates virtual reality entities that exist only in the minds of its victims. Those Grimm you fought, the fakes of all your past enemies…"
"So Bléu was right, all those familiar faces aren't the real deal." Sonic put his hand on his chin.
"They may not be real, but their strength is the same," Shadow stated.
"If that's the case, why is she making these flimsy Grimm creatures?" Sonic said as more growls were heard. They were quickly swarmed by a group of Grimm.
"I'm not sure."
Sonic shrugged before they both jumped out of the way of a King Taijitu's twin-biting attack. They both ran along the necks of the white and black snakes as they conversed. Sonic pulled the Chaos Emerald out again. "Guess we've still got more to ask her! Let's get rid of these creeps with Chaos-"
Shadow shouted. "No! Chaos energy causes the Phantom Ruby's power to become even more volatile! We'll have to do this the old-fashioned way."
Sonic smirked and stashed the Emerald. "Fair enough. Then how do we handle Cinder?" He said as he made it to the white snake's head and killed it with an axe kick.
Shadow handled the black half by teleporting in front of its mouth. He snapped off both of its fangs and teleported onto its head, shoving its teeth into its eyes. "She's not immune to it! We need to make sure we're not under the Ruby's influence, then I can knock her away so we can escape."
"So your plan is to cut and run? That's not like you."
"It's our only choice. We can't beat her when she has that Phantom Ruby AND her Maiden magic." Shadow stated firmly as they landed next to each other and saw a horde of Grimm approaching them.
"You heard that whole speech, huh?" Sonic and Shadow stood side by side. Eyeing down the horde of Grimm that was intended to flush them out. Sonic pondered. "They don't give up, do they?"
"What if we used Light Speed Attack?" Shadow suggested.
Sonic had a quick flashback to one of their previous adventures and smirked. "Hehe, you never cease to surprise me."
"Hmph." Shadow dismissed Sonic's playful banter and they both began charging up in their ball forms. Light began glowing around them before they both knelt forward, ready to run.
Both now supercharged, Sonic and Shadow glowed up into blue and orange explosions of energy. "Shall we be going?" Sonic asked with a smug glance at Shadow.
Shadow winced as he remembered what he was supposed to say next. With a heavy sigh, The Ultimate Lifeform finished with, "Blast away!"
Sonic and Shadow launched at the speed of light, blitzing through The Grimm fakers with their blinding speed and awesomeness.
Cinder had gotten back to where the rest of the furries were and Vector was the only one standing. Frowning at this, The Fall Maiden landed in front of them.
The two speedy hedgehogs beat every Grimm in the area and sighed as they used up the last of their light-speed attack. "Alright, I'll keep her distracted and you use the Chaos Emeralds to send her flying, then you can get us out of here," Sonic said as he handed over the Emeralds to Shadow.
The black and red hedgehog nodded before they heard a blood-curdling scream from Tails. Sonic went wide-eyed as they both rushed back into the front of the Eggman secret base.
Both Sonic and Shadow had pits in their stomach as they saw a limp Vector The Crocodile with a flaming red sword sticking out of his back. Cinder swung her sword and the large green crocodile was carelessly thrown towards Tails's feet. The yellow fox got to his knees and nudged his green-scaled friend. But he was motionless.
Cinder smirked as she held her blade close in her hands. She waited to see these poor fools crumble in fear. Cinder knew that this world was softer than her own, demoralizing these furries would be no problem, then she could pick them off one by one. She looked at the heroes' expressions as they saw the unmoving body of their crocodile friend.
The two hedgehogs snapped their heads towards Cinder. Shadow always looked angry, but Sonic stopped smiling, and a chill ran up her spine.
The five Chaos Emeralds appeared around them and began to glow with negative Chaos energy. They both transformed into Dark Super forms.
By the time she realized her fear, Dark Shadow had vanished and Dark Sonic was already halfway to the red fox. Cinder barely had enough time to raise her clothed hand to block Sonic's punch, but she couldn't react when Shadow did his signature teleporting kick to the head.
"How?! How is this possible?!" Cinder shouted into her communicator before Sonic reeled back and gave Cinder a gut punch, getting thrown back to Shadow, she was getting treated like a pinball. She gasped when Shadow teleported next to her and kicked her up into the air. "These hedgehogs were NOT this powerful the last time I fought them!"
Tails heard Cinder's pitiful plea to Eggman. "You're not dealing with average hedgehogs. Unlike mechs and your illusions, they grow more powerful with each step they take! And you just made them mad!"
They were in sync, knocking around The Fall Maiden with crushing blows. Cinder couldn't keep up with the subsonic speeds that they were showing. She was too caught off guard, activating the Phantom Ruby was simply out of the question for her. Sonic broke Cinder's arm with a well-placed roundhouse kick, knocking her over to Shadow.
"Chaos… BEAM!"
Dark Shadow used all five Emeralds to power himself up and shoot a massive wave of Chaos energy from his hands, sending Cinder flying. She was enveloped by the giant beam and was sent miles away. "FUUUUUUuuuu-..."
Sticks and Sonic ran over to Tails and Vector before Shadow teleported in front of them, "Chaos Control!" Shadow shouted as he transported everyone away.
They were suddenly in front of Knuckles and Amy, back in the Resistance Base. Everyone immediately turned to Vector who had a hole in his chest.
Espio and Charmy had gotten back a few hours ago, "Vector!" They said together and ran to their leader's side.
Tails checked his pulse and got out a scanner. "This is bad… That woman stabbed right through his heart. He's not going to make it…"
Everyone went cold as they looked down at their dying friend.
Shadow walked over and the five Chaos Emeralds appeared around him. He placed a hand on the crocodile's chest and the wound began to glow, closing itself.
Charmy looked up at The Ultimate Lifeform. "Shadow…?"
"I was brought into this world to cure Maria. I failed… I will not do so again."
Vector gasped as he was brought back to consciousness. His heart was repaired and pumping rapidly. He blinked as he started to get up, but Espio stopped him.
Back with Cinder
"...-uuuUUUCK" Cinder finally managed to break free of Shadow's Chaos Beam and screamed out in anger. She looked down at her broken arm and was livid. "Doctor Eggman! Those hedgehogs! No, those gems that they keep using, what are they?!" Eggman didn't respond. "Rrr… EGGMAN!"
[They were using Chaos Emeralds… And they already have five. This is not good.] The doctor muttered through the communicator. [No… this won't be a problem, they'll never get all seven before my plan is set in motion.]
"Chaos Emeralds?" Cinder asked. "You KNOW about them?! And you DIDN'T tell me? You promised me power! That was power! Why have you not been having me search for them?! They're more powerful than the Phantom Ruby!"
[You are on a need-to-know basis, Cinder. And you don't need to know anything about those Emeralds!] Eggman affirmed. Even he was afraid of what would happen if Cinder were to start gathering the emeralds. [Regardless, The Phantom Ruby is incompatible with the Chaos Emeralds. If you started using those Emeralds, you would simply blow yourself up. And that would be the BEST case scenario.]
"Then I don't want this flimsy Ruby!" Cinder went to grab the Phantom Ruby and rip it off her chest, but she was fried by another electric shock by Eggman. "AHHHH… N-no…" The Fallen Maiden's body locked up before she grunted in pain. Losing her flight, she fell into a bush.
[If you want power so badly, then report back to Metropolis. I'll fix your arm just like I did with the other one. Better even!]
