Suddenly, her eyes lit up.
"Operation: Find Clyde's Mommy is a go!" she whispered, grabbing Lana's hand and pulling her downstairs.
Lincoln groaned and covered his face with his hands.
"This could be a problem," he thought to himself, feeling a headache coming on.
From their vantage point behind the curtains, the twins could just make out the McBrides' house across the street. "There they are!" Lana exclaimed, pointing at Mr. McBride #1 as he carried a bag of groceries inside.
Lola, bouncing on the balls of her feet, clapped her hands together.
"Shh, Lana!" she hissed, barely containing her excitement. "We need to observe, not shout. This is a secret mission, remember?"
They watched in silence as Mr. McBride #2 came out of the house, whistling a cheerful tune as he watered the flowers in their front yard.
"He's watering flowers!" Lana whispered excitedly. "Maybe Clyde's mommy is a flower fairy!"
Lola, pacing back and forth behind the curtains, rolled her eyes. "Honestly, Lana. Focus! We need real clues, not silly guesses."
Just then, Clyde came running out of the house, laughing. He jumped into Mr. McBride #2's arms, who swung him around in a circle.
"They look happy," Lana observed.
Lola, her eyes wide with imaginative fervor, tapped her chin. "Hmm," she mused. "Maybe Clyde's mommy is… invisible! She's there, but we just can't see her!"
Lana gasped. "Like a ghost?"
Lola nodded seriously, her voice hushed with dramatic intensity. "Exactly! We need to find a way to see ghosts! And I know just who can help!"
