I stand in front of the door to Fraxinus' hospital wing, with a look of nervousness clear on my face. Because I know that beyond this door, the fate of my mother is to be decided.
I've faced Ellen Mira Mathers, DEM's Strongest Wizard, multiple times without fear, yet knowing that I may not be able to save my mom scares me more than anything.
I feel someone place a hand on my left shoulder and look to see Shido giving me a look, telling me without words that he's here for me. I allow myself a small smile. Should the worst come to pass, at least I have people to share my sorrow.
Taking a deep breath, I walk into the hospital wing, with everyone following behind me. We hear the stable beeps of the heartbeat monitor as we see my mother, Nagisa Himekawa, lying on one of the hospital beds unconscious, with Reine standing on one side of the bed.
"You're all here." The Analysis Officer gives a simple greeting as walk up to my mom. I stare at my mom, knowing that this may be the last time I look at her after not seeing her for 26 years.
"This is Yoshino's mom." Tohka says quietly.
"They really do look alike." Rinne comments.
"I've known about Project: Siren and always wondered who she was... but I didn't think she would be Yoshino's mom." Mana says with gritted teeth. "They must've fucked up her body like they did with me." Hearing Mana say that makes me grit my teeth and clench my fists, knowing that that's exactly what they did to her.
"It's not just that." Reine says, getting our attention. "As I've recently found out, her Combat Realizer was actually equipped with a Control Realizer built into the helmet." My eyes widen upon hearing that. "The purpose of it was to block out Nagisa's memories as long as she wore it, while also making her loyal to Wescott. Without it, she would've recognized Yoshino back during their first meeting on Arubi Island."
"Of course he would do something like that." Origami growls, her anger understandable.
"What about Miku's stolen power?" Kotori asks the main question.
Reine sighs, which is already a bad sign. "I was able to locate a shard within her chest that is the source of her Reiryoku readings. I believe that it is a shard of Miku's Sephira Crystal that was ripped out of her when DEM harvested her power." I see. That falls in line with Miku being incomplete. "The main problem, however, is that that shard is the only thing preserving her life."
"...What?" I weakly ask, horror clear on my face.
"As Wescott said, Nagisa was very close to death when he found her. I imagine that even after DEM experimented on her body, she was left comatose at best: not dead, but not waking up, so she had to be kept in stasis." Reine explains. "It was only after receiving the Sephira Shard harvested from Miku that her body began functioning again."
"In other words, that shard is basically her lifeline." Kotori summarizes with a frown. "And if we were to extract it..."
"She'll die." Kotori finishes grimly.
Hearing about the things Mom has gone through was bad enough, but learning that she'll die anyway if we extract the shard is breaking my heart. The situation begins to feel hopeless as I struggle to hold back my tears.
"Damn it. It can't end like this!" Shido exclaims. I look up at him and see the frustration on his face. "There has to be some way we can save her!"
I look back at Reine hopefully, but lowers her head. "The only possible way I can think of is to replace the stolen Sephira Shard with a new one. But-"
"That's fine!" Shido interrupts Reine. "Yoshino can make one! She's made a full Sephira Crystal before!"
"True, but unfortunately, that's the easy part." Reine resumes. "She would then have to extract the Sephira Shard holding Miku's power from her mother's body and quickly replace it with the newly-created one. The timeframe she will have to do so will be very short, as the moment the shard is extracted, her body will no longer be receiving Reiryoku to keep her alive."
"Meaning we have to find some way to keep her alive during the extraction process." Origami finishes. "The best way to do that would be to supply her body with Reiryoku in some way."
"But how?" Kotori questions. "Even with Ratatoskr's technology, we don't have a way to safely transfer Reiryoku from one person to another." I look down desperately trying to find some way to save my mom.
"Wait a minute." Shido speaks up, getting everyone's attention. "My ability to seal Spirits is basically me taking their powers into myself through kissing them, right?"
"Yeah?" Kotori answers, unsure where he's going with this.
"Maybe... could it be possible for me to reverse it, and instead channel Reiryoku into the Spirit?" Shido's suggestion makes us all widen our eyes. Even I didn't think that could be possible!
"That... could actually work." Kotori says. "Especially with your Pure Reiryoku strengthening your sealing ability. It may also allow you to reverse the effects. But the recipient would have to be a Spirit."
"Yes, but Himekawa-san has a Sephira Shard inside of her, right?" Shido counters. "Wouldn't that technically make her a Spirit?"
Reine's eyes widen. "Shin's right. It's only a shard, so she's only a Quasi-Spirit, but still a Spirit nonetheless, meaning his power will work. With Shin providing Reiryoku for Nagisa, it will extend the timeframe enough for us to safely extract the Sephira Shard holding Miku's power and replace it with the newly-created one." I let out a gasp as my hope is reignited, hearing that saving Mom is actually possible.
"Alright, then I'll make sure Himekawa-san stays alive." Shido volunteers without hesitation, before looking at Rinne. "Rinne, you can also use Pure Reiryoku, so we're gonna need your help as well. You can extract the Sephira Shard holding Miku's power, so that Yoshino can focus on replacing it with the one she creates."
"Understood." Eden's Empress nods, a determined look on her face.
"We'll help, too!" Tohka volunteers. "We may not be able to use Pure Reiryoku, but we can use her Paths with Shido to supply him Reiryoku!"
"You guys..." I breathe out, touched by everyone's desire to help me.
Shido looks at me with a smile. "You've saved all of us, Yoshino. Now, it's our turn to help you save your mom." The other Spirits nod, agreeing with Shido.
I could feel myself start to cry, happy to have such wonderful friends.
Third POV:
The Fraxinus flies over an isolated area, and Shido and the Spirits are teleported to ground level. This was per Kotori's suggestion, as to avoid any interference from the AST or DEM.
"Before we begin, it might be best for Yoshino to teach Rinne how to enter Origin Mode." Reine suggests through the ear piece. "The extra power will increase our chances of success."
Yoshino nods. "My Origin Mode is only a partial one because I'm a human who was converted into a Spirit." She admits before looking at Rinne. "However, Rinne is a Pure Spirit, meaning she might be able to pull of a Complete Origin Mode."
"A Complete Origin Mode..." Tohka repeats. Naturally, everyone is curious to see a Complete Origin Mode.
Once Rinne enters her Spirit Form, Yoshino walks her through the process of entering Origin Mode. Eden's Empress closes her eyes and follows the instructions, a pink glow forming where her Sephira Crystal resides as pink streams of Reiryoku flow in and out of her. The conversion begins, and this time, the pink Reiryoku completely turns into Rainbow Pure Reiryoku.
With the conversion complete, shockwaves of Pure Reiryoku erupt from Rinne, and everyone sees the results of a Complete Origin Mode.
The rainbow aura is present around her, and her eyes are now a bright blue, but this time, her hair has also changed color, becoming a much paler blue in comparison.
'This is a Complete Origin Mode.' Yoshino thinks, looking at Rinne's new form. 'She looks like an actual extension of Mio.'
"This is incredible." Kannazuki says in awe. "Rinne's readings are off the charts!"
"That checks out." Kotori nods. "Even Yoshino's Partial Origin Mode is no joke. A Complete Origin Mode would be on an entirely different level."
"Indeed." Rinne speaks, looking at her hand. "I can feel the immense power in this form, but not only that, my Angel..."
"Your Angel?" Yoshino repeats with curiosity. 'Has the transformation affected Eden as well?' She thinks.
"Yes. I can feel that it has changed." Rinne confirms Yoshino's thought. Closing her eyes to focus onto her Angel, she opens her eyes and spreads out her arms. "Ain Soph!"
Yoshino's eyes widen when she hears the name, and then a huge rip forms in the ground behind Rinne, and a large mechanical-looking tree forms, stretching into the sky.
Everyone stares with awe at Rinne's transformed Angel. "What is that?" Tohka asks.
"That Angel... it feels way stronger than originally." Kotori says, feeling the power emanating from Ain Soph. "Could this be... Eden's true form?"
"I... believe so." Rinne says in agreement. "Wescott did say that my Eden was basically one of Mother's Angel but with a different name."
"So, Rinne originally came from Ain Soph, one of the Spirit of Origin's Angels?" Shido asks.
"That seems to be correct." Reine confirms. "Also, you may want to take note of your surroundings."
Reine's words make everyone look around, and their eyes widen when they see that the area now has a purple tint, and the ground now looks like a chessboard.
"What is this?" Origami asks.
"This is..." Tohka speaks in shock. "I recognize this. It's where I used to go whenever I disappeared after fighting the AST."
Shido's eyes widen. "Then that would mean this is...!"
"The Neighboring World." Yoshino finishes. "The world Spirits go to whenever they become Lost; the world that was created upon [Deus]'s birth, and is an extension of her power." She looks at the tree. "This Angel, Ain Soph, is an Angel that utilizes the power of the Neighboring World, and everywhere its roots extend to becomes a part of the Neighboring World, allowing the user to rewrite the laws of reality to their every whim."
"So, that's how Wescott plans to overwrite the world." Kotori frowns in realization. "Such a terrifying Angel... and this is only one of the supposed multiple Angels that [Deus] possesses."
Everyone couldn't help but feel nervous at the thought of the Spirit of Origin having other Angels around the same power as Ain Soph. Yoshino, however, knows the full extent of Mio's power, and knows better than anyone that facing her is an impossible task, even with the numbers advantage.
"We'll think about [Deus]'s power later." Yoshino says, getting back to the current matter. "Rinne, with Ain Soph, you should be able to control reality on a greater scale, correct?"
"Yes, I can." Rinne confirms. "In fact... Ain Soph!" She calls out to her Angel, and it gives off a brief glow.
Before anyone could wonder what Rinne did, all the Spirit could feel themselves back at full power, their complete Astral Dress forming. Yoshino, however, can feel that an additional change has been made to her.
"What did you just do, Rinne?" Shido asks.
"I was able to use Ain Soph to do two things." Rinne explains. "The first is that I made it so that everyone can use their full power despite being sealed. The second thing, however, is that I made it so that Yoshino can also manage a Complete Origin Mode."
Yoshino gasps, now understanding the change she felt. Even if it's only temporary and through Ain Soph's power, being able to use a Complete Origin Mode will make this much easier.
Closing her eyes, she begins the conversion process as streams of blue Reiryoku flow in and out of her. This time, all the blue Reiryoku is successfully converted into Pure Reiryoku, and with rainbow shockwaves erupting from her Yoshino enters a Complete Origin Mode, her eyes now a bright blue and her hair now a pale blue.
Yoshino could feel the immense power flowing through her, as if she has become a true extension of Mio's power.
"Amazing..." Origami breathes in awe.
Kotori nods. "Right. Now we can finally start." She says.
Yoshino nods and holds out her hand, closing her eyes as she focuses on her Angel. Like with Rinne, she could that it has changed... Ascended. An Ascended Angel. That's what she'll call it.
Having made the connection, she calls out the name of her Ascended Angel. "Chesed." She feels its power answer to her call, and she focuses it into a small shard and charges it with her power. In no time at all, a small blue Sephira Shard is floating in her hand.
"She created it in no time at all." Kotori can't help but be amazed, before regaining focus. "Alright, Reine, we're ready."
"Alright." Reine replies. "Sending Nagisa down now."
Nagisa Himekawa appears on the chessboard floor in front of them, still unconscious, and everyone prepares themselves for the big moment.
"Shido, do your thing." Kotori tells him. "Rinne, Yoshino, be ready to perform the Sephira Shard exchange. Everyone else, focus on sending power to Shido through your Paths."
Shido walks up to Nagisa and get down on his knees, kissing her on the lips. Focusing his power to seal the Spirits, he uses his Pure Reiryoku to reverse it and send power to her instead, causing an indigo glow within her chest. The Sealed Spirits, sans Yoshino and Rinne, immediately work to support him, sending him more Reiryoku.
While Miku doesn't have a Path connecting her to Shido like the others, she does have one way she could help. "Gabriel. March." Summoning her Angel in the form of a keyboard and bells, she plays a tune that empowers her friends, allowing them to be able to hold on longer.
The two Origin Mode Spirits look at each other with a nod, and Rinne focuses her power onto the Sephira Shard within Nagisa. An small indigo shard can be seen exiting her chest as Eden's Empress uses the gateway formed by Shido to carefully extract it from the mother's body. The moment the shard holding Miku's power has been fully extracted, Yoshino moves the Sephira Shard she created herself to her mother, having it enter her body using that same gateway, Nagisa's entire body glowing blue as a result before settling down.
"It's done." Reine reports, and Shido breaks away from the kiss. Seeing this, the Sealed Spirits stop sending Reiryoku and Miku cancels March.
"Never thought I would hold a kiss for that long." Shido says between pants.
"You did great, Onii-chan." Kotori praises him. "The training and dates have built up your lung strength." Shido gives a small smile at that.
Exiting Origin Mode, Yoshino slowly walks up to Nagisa. Shido notices and moves, allowing the Spirit of Chesed to kneel down next to her, her hand resting over her mother's. "Mom... please wake up..." She whispers softly, her eyes closed tight as she wishes with all her heart that her mother is still alive; that they didn't fail the operation.

Her eyes open wide when she heard someone weakly call out to her. Not only that, but she can feel her mother's hand twitching slightly before slowly grasping hers. Looking up at Nagisa, she and everyone else could see her slowly regaining consciousness, her eyes starting to flutter open.
"She's waking up!" Tohka exclaims.
"It really worked!" Origami says with great relief.
Nagisa's eyes open, her eyesight starting to clear as she looks to see the face of her daughter, who she never thought she would see again. "Yoshino..." She speaks in a weak voice. "Is that... really you?"
"Mom..." Tears begin to well up in Yoshino's eyes, her heart overflowing with happiness.
Seeing her daughter start to cry, Nagisa lifts her free hand up to Yoshino's cheek, giving a small smile. "It's ok, Yoshino... I'm right here..."
Unable to hold her happiness any longer, Yoshino hugs her mother, letting her tears fall freely. Nagisa moves her arm around Yoshino, allowing her daughter to cry on her shoulder.
Shido and the other Spirits smile at the sight, some even tearing up at the touching reunion of mother and daughter. Knowing that this was made possible thanks to their combined efforts made them even happier.
Up on Fraxinus, the crew are cheering for the successful operation, having saved the life of the mother one of their commanders. Reine also smiles, feeling proud of their growth. "They truly have come far." She says, though her voice is drowned out by the loud cheering.
Shido's POV:
Having successfully saved Yoshino's mom, we return to the hospital wing, with Himekawa-san back in the hospital bed she was originally. "You know, it's kinda weird that I'm the one in a hospital bed this time around." She muses.
Yoshino giggles. "Probably because last time we saw each other, I was the one in the bed."
"Talk about ironic, huh?" Yoshinon jokes.
"Guess so." Himekawa-san gives a dry laugh, then looks at the rest of us. "Thank you all so much for helping my daughter."
"It's the least we could do after all she's done for us." I say, smiling as well.
Kotori nods in agreement. "Yoshino's been a big help to all of us. We were more than happy to return the favor."
"Sounds like my little girl's become quite the heroine since I last saw her." Himekawa-san laughs, petting Yoshino's head.
The Water Spirit blushes lightly. "Mom, I may not have aged physically, but I'm actually 40 now."
"Yeah, and I'm in my late 50s." Her mother replies. (A/N: The wiki doesn't list Nagisa's age before her canonical death, so I'm just guesstimating.) After pointing out her age, Himekawa-san sighs. "To think 26 years of our lives are just gone... You must've really lonely by yourself."
"Not really. I've had Yoshinon with me the entire time." Yoshino's right. Even before meeting all of us, she's always had Yoshinon, her mother's final gift to her.
Himekawa-san looks at the living puppet. "It's still amazing that Yoshinon's actually alive."
"That's spirit power for ya!" Yoshinon says cheerily.
"The two of us are basically two halves of a whole, but more importantly, she symbolizes your promise to me." Yoshino says. ""No matter how far apart we are, you'll always be with me." That's what you said when you gave me Yoshinon." Wow. I didn't realize Yoshinon meant that much to them.
Himekawa-san smiles warmly. "Yeah, you're right."
"Oh, that reminds me." Yoshino pulls out another white rabbit hand puppet. This one is smaller compared to Yoshinon, and both its eyes look to be closed while its mouth is a small 'x'. "This is Yoshinon Jr. I made this for you after you gave me Yoshinon. I wanted to gift her to you, so that we'd both have a part of each other with us."
"Aw, thank you." Himekawa-san happily accepts the gift, placing the puppet on her left hand.
The next moment, Yoshinon Jr. starts twitching, and then her mouth opens up in an upside-down triangle with a yawn. After she finishes yawning, her eyes open, too, revealing two red orbs. "Good morning." Yoshinon Jr. greets us in a squeaky voice, making us all look with surprise.
"Whoa! The mini-puppet's talking!" Tohka shouts in surprise.
"I guess this shouldn't be too surprising." Reine says. "Yoshino's power is very highly compatible with puppets, and since Nagisa now holds a Sephira Shard created with Yoshino's power, it immediately linked with Yoshinon Jr."
"Awesome!" Yoshinon says excitedly, floating up to Yoshinon Jr. "Nice to meet ya, mini-me!"
"H-Hello, big me." Yoshinon Jr. timidly greets back, waving at Yoshinon. We all giggle at the sight of two puppets having a conversation with each other.
"Oh! Speaking of Sephira Shards..." Rinne takes out the indigo Sephira Shard. "Here, Miku. This is for you." Looking at the shard holding her lost power longingly, Miku gently takes it from Rinne's hand... Nothing happens
"...Um," Kaguya says after a long pause, "I'm not the only one who expected something to happen, right?" We all nod in response.
"Try placing the shard on the scar on your throat, where your power was harvested." Yoshino suggests. Miku does so, and that's when something happens. The shard begins to shine brightly, before bursting into innumerable moats of light, which wrap around her throat. When the light finally dies down...
Origami gasps. "Miku! Your scar is gone!"

"It feels like... like ages since I've felt like myself."
I smile. "I'm glad we were able to help restore your power, Miku."
"Yeah..." Miku nods. "You kept your promise... but... it almost came at the cost of Yoshino's mother."
"Thankfully, it didn't come to that." Himekawa-san says. "Don't worry about it. I can tell just by looking that you've been through a lot. Just take this chance to finally be happy."
