AN: This is very very short but it was missing from the main story! Also I'm so sorry to anyone who was hoping this would be what happened in Mexico, lmao. Next time!
Enjoy!
Addendum: Outtakes
Excerpt from Ch. 15
Mystic Falls I
At Matt Donovan's burial Elena Gilbert stands at the back between John and Dean Winchester. Just released from the hospital that morning, she leans heavily into Dean's side, not a scratch on her.
They were the last group in and out of the church, and as Tyler Lockwood throws his handful of dirt onto Matt's coffin, Elena catches John's eye and cants her head, indicating that she's ready to leave. Elena could not bring herself to miss his funeral, but she can't face his mother, so Elena is hiding from her.
As they wind through the gravestones, Elena gradually drifts away from Dean. Now that no one is watching, it's safe to reveal that she's uninjured.
"Elena, wait!" Bonnie Bennett calls after them.
Elena stops. She looks at John and Dean. "Give us a moment, okay?"
After a moment the two men nod and continue to the parking lot. For all her diminutive size, Bonnie is a fierce opponent, more than capable of defending her friend if it comes to that.
Elena turns to face her best friend.
"You were going to leave without saying goodbye?" Bonnie asks, clearly hurt.
"We're not leaving until tomorrow," Elena says hollowly.
"Elena, what's going on? Caroline told me what you said to her at the hospital. I know this is hard for you but just talk to me, please."
"Hard for me?" Elena asks, staring at Bonnie with a blank expression on her face.
"What?" Bonnie asks, confused.
"Hard for me," Elena repeats. "You've known him your entire life too – and you're saying this is hard for me?"
"You were in the car with him Elena," Bonnie replies, baffled.
"Don't you ever get tired of your entire life being about me?" Elena asks, surprising her.
Bonnie blinks. "What are you saying, Elena?"
"It's fucked up, isn't it." Elena's voice is flat. "You always put me first and it wrecks everything." She cocks her head to the side. "Don't you ever wish I would just disappear?"
Bonnie shakes her head vehemently. "No, of course not. Elena," she says, taking Elena's hands in her hers, she continues fervently. "You're my best friend." She shakes her head. "I don't know what you're talking about." She squeezes her hands reassuringly. "Please, Elena. I know this is hard for you, but just talk to me."
"You just buried one of your oldest friends and it's still about how hard this is for me," Elena repeats. She does not hold Bonnie's hands back. Her hands just sit in hers, limp but shaking.
Bonnie speaks slowly. "You were in the car with him – Stefan saved you over him…" she trails off, realizing she is looking right through her. "Elena."
"I can't be everything to you anymore, Bonnie," Elena says abruptly. "I can't be the reason you all suffer and why you compromise your morals or anyone's reason to believe again anymore. It's too much. You're too much: leave me the fuck alone." And with that, Elena shakes off Bonnie's hands, breaking their connection to leave.
AN: See, nice and short! Or should I say, mean and short, lmao. We saw how Elena burned her bridges with Caroline, so I just wanted to take a moment to see how it played out with Bonnie. We all know Elena has a habit of going for the fucking jugular in a fight in canon, so I couldn't do less here.
See you next time with Elena's birthday outtake!
